Best Disc Golf Bags

Best Disc Golf Bags

If you’ve been playing disc golf very long odds are that you own a disc golf bag.  Some of us gravitate toward a cart, but most of us use a bag to carry our discs and accessories.

Bags come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. They have different carrying capacities and serve different purposes. In this blog we’ll look at sales and product review data to find the best disc golf bags for 2023. We’ll look at the different bag types, from small bags up to backpack bags, and find out which bag is the best for each type of bag.

Types of Disc Golf Bags

There are bag sizes and types on the market to fit every need. Some of us are minimalist golfers who just need a bag big enough for a couple discs. Others of us carry backups for our backup discs and every possible accessory available. Most of us are somewhere in between those extremes. Let’s look at the bag types and what they do.

Small bags

This type of bag carries around 10 discs and maybe a water bottle. It can have a shoulder strap or attach to your waist. These are the smallest of bags, although some of them are still capable of carrying a lot of discs and accessories.

Large bags

You can hold up to 15+ discs in a large bag, with additional room for snacks or accessories. This size bag can be carried with a single shoulder strap, or backpack type shoulder straps.

Economy Backpack

If you like backpack style bags but don’t want to carry a lot of discs, then Economy backpacks are the way to go. Even though smaller than regular backpack bags, economy bags still carry a lot of discs and a few other accessories.

Backpack Bags

These are the largest bag choice. They can hold over 20 discs, with room for snacks, accessories, retrievers, and even stools or umbrellas. They have two shoulder straps that help you carry a lot of discs more comfortably

  • Fitactic Backpack. I’ve been using it for three years and it has shown barely any wear at all. Easily holds 20 discs, front putter pouch, pocket on top can hold three or four of your favorites, water bottle holder, extra storage on either side, free rain fly, and only $50 on Amazon. No-brainer.

  • My favorite bag I have used has to be a backpack bag, the Grip CX3 I believe. It holds around 20 discs, with 15-16 in the main compartment, 1-2 in a mid pocket, and 3-4 putters up top. I carry right at 20 discs in my bag each round because it helps with easier decision making and shot selection. These bags are certainly a more premium option for sure, but I think it is worth it because of the amount of use you will get out of it. It can easily hold lots of snacks and accessories, it has a designated umbrella holder, can fit a rainfly, and can also fit a sweatshirt or jacket. It has dual water bottle pouches that can fit up to a 32oz Nalgene comfortably and also has a specific slot for a key ring and even minis.

The best budget option I have seen has to be the Atlas Pioneer. These are like grip bags in terms of disc storage, but at a much more affordable rate. They are also much lighter than most backpack bags and are an excellent choice.

  • DD Combat Commander (or Commander in general) – Easy access to all your discs, quick access to 2-3 putters right at the top of the bag, hard feet and base of bag to keep your discs out of the mud/dew/etc, easily holds my 5 putt & approach, 3 mids, 9 fairway drivers, and 3-4 distance drivers depending on how much space I want for the discs to wiggle. Two water bottle holders, two pockets bigger than a rangefinder or most grip enhancers, plus two large pockets to hold extra minis, a towel or two, league tags, a retriever, or more discs if you wanted/needed, however the large pockets do restrict the disc compartment if filled enough. Very comfortable to wear or carry on the course!

  • Currently using the Latitude 64 Luxury E4 bag. I’ve been using my bag with a Zuca large cart and loving it! Plenty of disc space and numerous pockets for accessories.

Least favorite bag so far would be the Upper Park Shift. I thought I would like the streamlined look and function of the Shift but ended up going for a more traditional large disc golf bag for my needs. Despite it being my least favorite, the bag quality was very nice.

  • I use the Infinite Easy Bag for shorter rounds or my local putter/mid course. Super simple and inexpensive. I do wish it had a water bottle sleeve though. For large bags, I really like my GRIPeq CX1. It’s not overly heavy (~4lbs) and is unlikely to tip over when I set it down. The disc capacity is darn near perfect for me too.

  • I have a problem I’ll have to solve sooner or later because I love the two bags I use and neither one is still being made. My main is an innova proto pack that I’ve got on a zuca EZ cart. Probably look at a squatch or something when it’s time comes. More pressing is my travel bag, which is the infinite tournament bag w/ the back pack straps. Love it because it holds as many discs as my big bag but is much more compact for travel, but it’s starting to fall apart. No idea what I’ll replace that with everyone seems to have stopped making that style bag.

  • Favorite large bag is the DD Soldier. Plenty of room, comfy, and most of all durable. I’ve had mine for years and put lots of rounds into it. Still looks and works great.

Favorite backpack is the Squatch Legend. Heck of a bag at a moderate price point. Comfortable, durable, and has all you could ask for and more.

  • My favorite bag is the Squatch Legend bag. I’m able to bring every disc I use when practicing for tournaments. I typically in the past used a big Zuca cart for every course and now when courses aren’t very cart friendly I just have to pack up my Squatch bag and head to the course!

  • My favorite to date is the Smack bag. Not only are they available on a lot of flashy profiles. I like the flash. The large putter pocket on top fits my style of play. I prefer to have my putting putters on main approach discs at the ready in the pouch. Then there is more than enough space in the main bag for all my other discs giving me more than enough options in a well organized backpack bag. And did I forget to mention 2 large drink holders. These summer FL rounds require plenty of fluids

  • I went from a camelback backpack that could fit my 6 discs to an Atlas Pioneer to a Gripeq Bx3 over the past 3 years. The BX3 is above and beyond the best bag. The structure and supper is well above the pioneer. I also get some reassurance that if something were to be off it’s backed by a warranty which is nice.

  • I am currently using a Dynamic Discs Soldier Bag. I really like this bag because it sits completely flat on the ground and I do not need to worry about it rolling on its side and having discs fall out or losing other items that I carry. It has great storage and I can easily fit in all discs that I need to carry for any given course I play.

The only other bag that I have had was the Innova Discover bag(I think that is what it was called). It did not have much stability and would roll on its side when I sat it on the ground. There was a bit of pocket space but not very much.

  • Upper Park Rebel, without a doubt. Open design makes getting discs in and out super easy and it has plenty of storage for other goodies.

  • I have a Prodigy BP2 v3. Great value for the money – cost me $50 on Black Friday last year. Room for plenty of discs and other stuff and stands up well. I think my favorite bag might be the Pound Rufus, if money were no object.

  • I upgraded from a DD Trooper to a DD Paratrooper and the amount of storage I now have is amazing! I no longer have to have my keys/wallet in my pockets anymore! The ability to separate my putters, approach discs, and drivers in separate compartments makes my round easier to manage. Highly recommend this bag!

  • My favorite bag is “The Ridge”. Hold all the disc you need, good storage and has a seat built in to the bag. That is by far one of the coolest features of any bag

  • Love my Star Frame Bandido bag. It comes with a small insulated cooler to keep your drinks cool while out on the course. Plenty of storage for all your discs and extra supplies with a slot for a foldable chair/umbrella. My first one had a rip in that slot and when I contacted support, their CEO sent me a second bag with for FREE and a few extra goodies! They’re an awesome company who make great bags!

  • Personally, I just use my school backpack because I don’t have the money to buy a specialty bag but I’m hoping to in the future. One that I’m looking at purchasing is the dynamic discs trooper backpack because it is somewhat on the cheaper side.

  • For a small game or vacation travel you can’t beat the infinite slinger deluxe bag.
I personally bought 3 of them, to always have stocked with my main discs, then I always have a glow bag made up..

But if you are looking for a great tournament bag, I still have my upper park bag from 8 years ago that still holds up and looks the same as it did when i first bought it.. The Rebel 1st addition, I think they are now on the 3rd model of the bag, and it’s only gotten better.. more costly but worth every penny.

  • I use a dynamic discs paratrooper and it’s the best bag ever!! It’s so comfortable I have no issue wearing it for a 2 or 3 round tournament. Also they look sweet too

  • Currently I really like the Upper Park Pinch Pro. I wanted a smaller and lighter bag for my daily one after using a Dynamic Discs Commander bag.

The UP Pinch is a solid bag for beginners or people who just want a compact backpack. It’s a lightweight bag that holds a decent amount of discs and bonus for the side pockets which can either hold more discs or 3 cans of your favorite beverage on each side. Be the guy who carries the beverage!
