Best Throwing Putters of 2024
Whenever we post a blog about the best putters, we invariably get a few responses that point out we shouldn’t be including putters such as the Discraft Zone or the MVP Glitch on our list of putters. While these molds are considered putters because of their speed and dimensions, they are rarely used to actually putt with. Instead, these discs and others like them are typically used to throw off the tee or as approach discs. Although we may get a few people point out that they putt with the discs we will discuss, we will still consider them throwing or driving putters. With that in mind, let’s look at the best throwing putters.
Top 10 Best Throwing Putters
Let’s look at the top 10 throwing putters and learn more about them. Then we will crown the winner. The winner will be chosen by sales numbers and reviews. The top 10 list is presented in alphabetical order by mold.
Descriptions Of The Best Throwing Putters
Infinite Discs Alpaca
The Infinite Discs Alpaca has been a hit since its release, and continues to be the top putting putter for Infinite pros. However, it is also widely used as a throwing putter, due to its ability to handle the power of a drive or approach. The Alpaca feels similar to the popular P2 putter, but is slightly faster. It is made in several plastic types, giving you the exact feel you need for your big drives!
Innova Aviar
The Innova Aviar is one of the few discs that your dad might have started with. It was one of the first discs made by Innova and has been popular ever since. In fact, it is one of the most popular putters of all time. The Aviar is beadless (although there are beaded versions) and has a stable to overstable flight. Many top pros have chosen the Aviar as their signature disc.
Kastaplast Berg
This speed 1 mold will impress you with its consistency. And its amazing feel in your hand! Although it is widely used as putting putter, players who have discovered its great feel and performance off the tee swear by the Kastaplast Berg. You may not get your longest approach shots with a Berg, but if you want a disc for precision shots, consider this disc.
Axiom Envy
Although many people were aware of how great the Axiom Envy was for driving prior to James Conrad’s famous shot at Worlds, that Holy Shot boosted its popularity to another level. Also known as a putting putter the Envy is a shapeable disc that can handle the power of a world champ. With his recent sponsor change (as of this writing), you can add Eagle McMahon to the list of pros that reach for an Envy for their drives and approaches.
MVP Glitch
When MVP released the Glitch two years ago, the throwing mold was an instant hit. It makes a great approach disc and a nice mold to use to warm up. Its low speed means the disc is good for technical shots that require precise distances. With its low fade, you know the disc will sit where it lands. Try out the Glitch and see why Simon has his name on the mold.
Axiom Pixel
The first putter in the Simon Line of discs, the Axiom Pixel Is a straight-flying disc that has a micro-bead on its overmold rim. The Pixel is stable enough to handle a head wind, but easy to throw on specific lines. It has a deep rim and a micro bead.
Latitude 64 Pure
Perfect for players of all skill levels, the Pure can be used to cover a lot of ground off the tee. Many people find the Latitude 64 Pure is great for putting as well as driving. The beadless putter has a bit of turn to help you shape tight shots, and a little fade to help you flex out and fade.
Infinite Discs Tomb
The Tomb is a popular approach disc that sports a flat top and a beaded rim. Its stability give it some beef in a wind, but not a crazy dump at the end of its flight. If you like the feel of a beaded putter you will be happy with the performance and feel of the Tomb
Gateway Wizard
The Gateway Wizard has been around for longer than many of us have been playing disc golf. Few other molds have been available in more plastic blends. This beaded putter is as versatile as its plastic types. Not only can the Wizard be used for a variety of drives and approaches, you will feel just as comfortable finishing the hole with the same disc. The Wizard has been a best-seller for Gateway for decades.
Discraft Zone
A perennial favorite disc for driving and approaches, the Discraft Zone is well known for its ability to fight headwinds and handle powerful drives. The Zone is a beefy disc that can be used by pros and newer players. It is the disc that we get the most comments about when we list it among the best putters, because few people actually putt with them.
And the winner is…
I hate to say it, but there was a tie for the Best Throwing Putter. The top two discs, the Glitch and the Alpaca, had a sudden-death playoff. And emerging on top is the Infinite Discs Alpaca! The difference came down to headwind shots. The Alpaca can handle a headwind and still deliver a great drive or approach. The Glitch is a lighter disc and is more affected by a wind. Both are popular discs and are highly rated.
Runner-up-runner-up
While the Alpaca and Glitch are taking first and second, nipping at their heals is the popular Axiom Envy. Many disc golfers reach for the Envy for accurate and long drives or approaches. Even top pros rely on its stable, reliable flight.

We’ll see how YOUR favorite driving putter compares to our out list.
Love the prodigy pa3 for throwing and putting. I want to try an PA5. And the pure same thing great thrower and putter. Got an eclipse envy definitely way more overstable than anticipated from a 3 speed putter.
I use the innova xero I like it’s bead and straight flight.
I throw a Dynamic Discs Guard on several short/straight holes. I’d say it is very Glitch-like with a deep rim, no bead, and dead straight flight. But it weights 173g which, to me, makes it feel like it’ll fall to the ground better and stick where I want it.
I also have been throwing a Copperhead which is an overstable (but not too overstable) putter from Lone Star. I use it when my I need less bite or more glide than my Pig.
I love the Rhyno and Pig for approach and controlled short drives. You can’t beat the thumb track and their ability to drop out of the air reliably.
I throw a lot of putters (I carry 8 usually) especially since a lot of holes near me are very putter friendly off the tee. 3 of mine made the list with the Zone, Glitch, and Berg all being staples of my approach game. I also bag a Reko, Kratos and Pillar for throwing and a pair of Daggers for putting.
Usage Breakdown
Neutron Glitch: Floaty drives and approaches as well as long putts
K1 Soft Berg: Primary approach disc for straightish stuff as well as shots that have to hit and stick as it doesn’t skip a lot
Jawbreaker Zone: This one kinda overlaps with my Berg and Kratos so I don’t throw it much unless I need a flex BH or turnover FH shot
Jawbreaker Z FLX Kratos: Primary driving putter for overstable shots between my Berg and mids
K1 Glow Reko: Straighter than the Kratos and longer than the Berg, it’s new to the bag but shows great promise in the same slot I’ve previously bagged seasoned premium Luna’s in but the Reko is less likely to turnover for me
Oasis Pillar: Another newish disc to the bag, this is occupying the spot I had previously used Z Zones for which comprised my skip shot approaches, most of my FH approaches, and my really overstable approach stuff and so far it’s doing everything as well if not better than the Zone (a seasoned 4X Claw) it replaced
I think the Thought Space Praxis is a greatly overlooked putter that seems to glide for days and maintains one of the straightest lines I’ve seen.
I’ll throw the berg occasionally off the tee , but I absolutely love it for upshots or anything that requires a nice controlled shot. The Watt is my go to off the tee for a straight tunnel shot. Lastly I also throw trash panda’s inner core in base plastic, it feels great in my hand and has a really nice floaty glide.
I have been using a Titanium Zone for approaches and have a Medium Zero Pure arriving in the next couple days to be my primary putter. I tried using the Zone to putt and realized it’s better as an approach or even an alternative to some mid range shots. I had a Pa-2 for a long time but think the Pure will be perfect for me
I have been leaning heavy on a D-Blend Alpaca lately.
Pure is not a throwing putter. Mint lasso should definitely have made this list
I throw the P3X, Envy, and I throw the Berg for sidearm shots.
I’ve been putting with a roach lately and I love it but my go-to approach and throw putter recently has been the Westside Maiden in tournament plastic. It is a gem. I used to bag a premium Praxis, and liked Derek said, I might have not given it enough of a chance. Might bring out the praxis to see what it can do now for me. I go want to try that alpaca, mostly since I’m from Bolivia and alpacas are the bomb and because I’ve been enjoying Infinite Disc discs recently like the Pharoah and Sphinx etc. Great article.
I’m an Aviar guy. I’m surprised that the Dart didn’t make the list. I guess it’s slept on. I like to manipulate disc angles to achieve different flights and I shy away from over stable putters. I also like throwing the MVP Atom but it’s not a staple in my bag.
Missing one of the best throwers out there – the pilot is my favorite throwing putter pretty easily. Dependable fade, lots of glide, and a good shape in the hand. It’s a longer flying envy. Very workable.
Zone ain’t really a throwing putter, tho it is great, but I think the toro in champ plastic outdoes it for the slot.
Never liked that damn alpaca. Sharp micro bead cut up my fingers.
I’m a die hard tomb gang member. As a primary forehand player, the tomb can hold stable with a lot of torque while also being shallow and comfortable in the hand.
While I adopted the tomb as my primary throwing and putting putter during the tomb desert season of 2021-2022 when premium plastic tombs were reselling for over $60, it’s now really available in many different plastics at a great price.
For me it’s the Envy. It’s comfortable in the hand. I like the shallow rim. It flies perfectly straight. I use it for all shots less than 225 ft and circle 2 putts.
I’ve played with nothing but putters since bck surgery last December, mostly MVP/Axiom, and in the battle for space in my bag between Envys and Proxys I recently discovered the Watt which just might replace the other two. The Watt is a phenomenal throwing putter that I’m kinda surprised didn’t make your list.
The Discraft Fierce is a great throwing putter. The Doomsday Discs Rot in Isolation plastic makes a really good approach putter.
The Stabilizer by Streamline is a disc I don’t hear many people talking about.
3, 3.5, 0, 3. Slightly different numbers than the Entropy, but with a similar flight. What sets it apart for me is the hand feel. Nice and rounded while the entropy can feel a bit angular in comparison. I bag both but reach for the stabilizer way more often.
I think my favorites for throwing have been the Doomday Bleak, Yikun Yi, and Infinite Cohort. I was actually pleased enough with my base-grade Bleak that I ordered a premium grade version hoping it will handle wear better. I’ve also meant to do the same with the Yi, but have just been waiting for the right sale to come back around. Some honorable mentions for other discs that were a pleasant surprise: the XCom Dawn, Divergent Nuno, and Yikun Claws.
How is Luna not on the list? Also the fierce is epic for off the tee laxer shots
