In disc golf, midrange discs are versatile discs that are frequently used for shorter, controlled shots where accuracy is important. They have a variety of stabilities for nearly any situation you may find yourself. Although they can be used off the tee, they are commonly used for second or third shots, with the goal of finishing near the basket.

We’ll start by taking a look back to last year and the best midrange discs for the year.

Previous Top 50 Midrange Discs

Topping the list of the Best Midrange Discs previously was the perennial champion, the Discraft Buzzz. The beadless buzz has been around for decades and is one of the most popular discs of all time. It has a neutral flight and can be thrown on a slight hyzer, which will flip to flat and cruise for a long, straight flight. The Buzzz is the choice of many top pros. It is available in pretty much any plastic made by Discraft. One out of every six midrange discs that Infinite sold was a Buzzz.

  • Favorite overall – Thoughtspace pathfinder, Overstable – Roc, Understable – Buzzz SS

  • Fav midrange is the Jay. Not flashy, but my workhorse. My favorite over stable mid is the pig, throw it as much as I can.

  • 1 – What is your favorite midrange? Hex.
2 – What is your favorite over/understable midrange? Buzzz OS/Hex. Or more understandable I like the Archer.

  • Favorite midrange is the Westside Discs Gatekeeper. It’s very controllable, I use it for distance throws that need to have long drawn out full flights. It’s also great for drifting turnover shots, it will hold the turn and just slowly flatten and settle (great alternative to the forehand for hole 13 at Olympus).

Favorite over/understable midrange has to be the Pyro. It’s the only Axiom/MVP/Streamline that has made the bag. It’s like a long Zone, great for forehand approach shots and stays in the air just a little while longer than a Zone.

  • Favorite midrange is the EMac Truth. I love this straight flyer from like 200 in.

Favorite overstable mid has to be the Roc3. So reliable.

  • Discmania md1 is my favorite midrange. I can shape most shots with it and it is very comfortable. Favorite overstable is discmania tactic razor claw 2. I like the minimal glide in an overstable midrange. Favorite understable is innova kite. The kite was my first midrange disc and I still use it 14 years later.

  • I have enjoy using Axiom Hex eclipse, Discraft Malta and Clash Peach.

  • Josh “Sauce” Staton

Well I’d have to say what has weasels become my most favorite midrange in my bag has got to be Mint Discs Mustang. That’s one bad mama jama, it will practically hold any line I put it on and can handle just about every situation… this thing can fly straight down the fairway heading on right out their with my fairway drivers… I can spike it or turn it over… you can go either angle soft or hard. And, with the mustangs stability it will even fight the wind. I struck gold when I started bagging the Mustang, now I have four of them!

As far as an overstable midrange, I gotta say I’ve found that the Dynamic
Discs Justice has never failed me… true overstability st it’s best. Excellent for getting around any obstacle, will fight the wind like crazy and it’s always fun to see friends jaws drop when this disc takes off and shows off a nasty hood flex line.

Now, understable is the RPM Piwakawaka. Truly the very best understable midrange I have ever thrown.Get them while you can fellas, because people are starting to find out about this one and they’re getting harder to find on the shelves. This is literally the perfect disc for impossible turnover shots or that dependable roller you need to throw to get out of a jamb and save that precious score. But, it’s most clutch, amazing, beautiful feature is it’s ability to hyper flip… now a lot of discs can, but the Piwakawaka does it like no other. This thing effortlessly works like magic and will glide for days and then glide some more. Truly a remarkable work of art as a disc. And P.S. it’s really fun to say, even your friends are going to say it when you pull it out the bag!!!

  • Discraft glide and meteor are extremely underrated. Effortless 280-340 ft shots with good angle control

  • Favorite is the pyro

Fav overstable: other than pyro, has to be the reactor

    Fav understable: detour

  • What is your favorite midrange? Streamline Echo.
What is your favorite over/understable midrange? Pyro/Streamline Echo

    • I am still blown away by the fact that the Anchor is never talked about. It’s a disc true to its numbers. Especially that 3 fade. It’s insanely predictable and fun to throw. I have one in Opto Ice and it will never leave my bag.

      OS? Obviously the Anchor
US? Gotta go with the Fuse.

Yeah, I like Latitude. Hope Issac gives the Anchor a shot soon!

  • What is your favorite midrange? TI Buzzz.
What is your favorite over/understable midrange? Buzzz OS(overstable)/TI Buzzz (understable)

  • For the longest time my favorite midrange has been the Hex, but I recently bought a Matrix and that is quickly becoming my new favorite.

I’m currently bagging the Hex, Matrix, and Pyro. The Hex is pretty beat in at this point so it’s now my understable mid.

  • Roc 3, gator, mako fav mids
    Rhyno, zone, wren fav putters

  • Currently my favorite has been the Mint discs Lobster followed up by the Mint Discs Mustang.

  • Favorite mid KC Roc. I cycle 3-4 in the bag for stable to under stable.

Favorite over stable mid is KJ Halo ROC or Moondust roc

Under stable mid Beat in KC ROC

  • Favorite overall would be the Lone Star Texas Ranger. Overstable – Innova Roc3. Understable – Lone Star Lone Wolf.

  • My favorite midrange is my proton soft hex, best feeling disc I have ever held.
My favorite overstable is the Clash Mango, I love the flight I can get out of it and it’s nearly impossible to roll over with a bad shot.
My favorite understable is the Mint Lobster. It’s new to the bag but it gives me the flight I wanted from my buzzz ss

  • 1- favorite overall is my prism pyro.

2- OS: pyro, S: mako3, US: fuse/rollo depending on the situation.

  • 1 – What is your favorite midrange?
    The Paradox

2 – What is your favorite over/understable midrange? Since I already said the Paradox for understable, I’d say the Pyro for overstable
