Top Selling Discs–Q2 and Q3 of 2018

We had a very busy summer here at Infinite Discs! How busy? Well, busy enough to not post about the best selling discs of the second quarter. But now the weather is cooling down, and so is the disc golf season. So instead of just posting about Q3, today I will be discussing the top selling discs in each disc classification of Q2, Q3, and both quarters (the last 6 months) combined. The latter I think is especially interesting because those 6 months make up the majority of the disc golf season.

With so much data to get through, this post will be heavy on data and a bit lighter on the analysis.

Top 10 Overall Q2

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Firebird
  3. Innova Aviar
  4. Discmania P2 Psycho
  5. Innova TeeBird
  6. Innova Thunderbird
  7. Innova Wraith
  8. Westside Harp
  9. Innova Shryke
  10. Discraft Buzzz

Top 10 Overall Q3

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Aviar
  3. Innova Sonic
  4. Discmania P2 Psycho
  5. Innova Firebird
  6. Discraft Buzzz
  7. Innova Wraith
  8. Innova TeeBird
  9. Innova Thunderbird
  10. Dynamic Discs Judge

Top 10 Overall Combined

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Aviar
  3. Innova Firebird
  4. Discmania P2 Psycho
  5. Innova TeeBird
  6. Discraft Buzzz
  7. Innova Wraith
  8. Innova Thunderbird
  9. Innova Shryke
  10. Innova Sonic

After being knocked off the top in our last two articles, the Innova Destroyer is back as the best selling disc overall. And the Discmania P2 made a pretty significant drop finishing as the fourth best selling disc in all three charts. Those who haven’t been following the world of professional disc golf and tour series discs are also probably shocked to see the Innova Sonic on this list but Innova and Garret Gurthie have brought it back with some very popular signature editions. Other than that, none of the names on these top charts are new comers.

Top Distance Drivers Q2

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Firebird
  3. Innova Wraith
  4. Innova Shryke
  5. Innova Valkyrie
  6. Infinite Discs Pharaoh
  7. Innova Boss
  8. Innova Tern
  9. Innova Beast
  10. Innova Orc

Top Distance Drivers Q3

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Firebird
  3. Innova Wraith
  4. Innova Shryke
  5. Innova Valkyrie
  6. Infinite Discs Pharaoh
  7. Innova Boss
  8. Innova Beast
  9. Innova Tern
  10. Dynamic Discs Trespass

Top Distance Drivers Combined

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Firebird
  3. Innova Wraith
  4. Innova Shryke
  5. Innova Valkyrie
  6. Infinite Discs Pharaoh
  7. Innova Boss
  8. Innova Beast
  9. Innova Tern
  10. Dynamic Discs Trespass

A couple of notes for the Distance Driver category. The new Infinite Discs Pharaoh has cracked into what has proven to be a pretty consistent group of discs. Obviously being an Infinite Discs exclusive disc, it will be interesting to see if this new high speed distance driver will stay in these top charts as the new release hype begins to wear off. One other noteworthy result is the Innova Orc cracking into the top 10 in Q2. This was a first appearance for the Orc, and it was just outside the top 10 in Q3 (12th).

Top Control/Fairway Drivers Q2

  1. Innova Teebird
  2. Innova Thunderbird
  3. Innova Leopard3
  4. Discmania FD Jackal
  5. Innova Leopard
  6. Infinite Discs Sphinx
  7. Innova Roadrunner
  8. Innova TeeBird3
  9. Latitude 64 River
  10. MVP Volt

Top Control/Fairway Drivers Q3

  1. Innova Teebird
  2. Innova Thunderbird
  3. Innova Leopard3
  4. Discmania FD Jackal/Innova Leopard
  5. NA
  6. Innova TeeBird3
  7. Discmania CD2
  8. Infinite Discs Exodus
  9. Innova Roadrunner
  10. Latitude 64 River

Top Control/Fairway Drivers Combined

  1. Innova Teebird
  2. Innova Thunderbird
  3. Innova Leopard3
  4. Discmania FD Jackal
  5. Innova Leopard
  6. Innova TeeBird3
  7. Innova Roadrunner
  8. Infinite Discs Sphinx
  9. Infinite Discs Exodus
  10. Latitude 64 River

Mostly familiar names in mostly familiar places in the Fairway Drivers. The new Infinite Discs Sphinx joined the charts and just like the Pharaoh, only time will tell if it is here to stay as a top seller. Another new name here is the Discmania CD2 coming in 7th in Q3. The CD2 has been a popular disc in the Discmania world, but this jump into the top chats was likely fueled by the release of the Dana Vicich Roaming Thunder CD2. The Discmania FD made a drop similar to the Discmania P2 in the overall chart by coming in as number 4 after finishing first the previous quarter. It is also interesting to see the exact same top 5 discs in the same order in all 3 charts other than a tie for fourth in Q3.

Top Midrange Discs Q2

  1. Discraft Buzzz
  2. Innova Roc3
  3. Innova Mako3
  4. Innova Roc
  5. Hyzerbomb Mortar
  6. Dynamic Discs EMac Truth
  7. Innova Gator
  8. Innova Rat
  9. Discmania MD3
  10. Infinite Discs Chariot

Top Midrange Discs Q3

  1. Discraft Buzzz
  2. Innova Roc3
  3. Innova Mako3
  4. Innova Roc
  5. Infinite Discs Anubis
  6. Dynamic Discs EMac Truth
  7. Innova Caiman
  8. MVP Deflector
  9. Discraft Comet
  10. Discmania MD3

Top Midrange Discs Combined

  1. Discraft Buzzz
  2. Innova Roc3
  3. Innova Mako3
  4. Innova Roc
  5. Dynamic Discs EMac Truth
  6. Hyzerbomb Mortar
  7. Innova Gator
  8. Discmania MD3
  9. Discraft Comet
  10. MVP Deflector

In the midranges we see several new releases making some waves. The Infinite Discs Anubis, Innova Caiman, and MVP Deflector all made debut appearances in the third quarter. The MVP Deflector even performed well enough in Q2 to make it onto the combined top 10. Also similar to the Fairway Drivers, the top 4 were consistent across all three charts. In a category that is comparatively low-selling, it will be interesting to see if these three new releases will maintain their high sales numbers.

Top Putt and Approach Discs Q2

  1. Innova Aviar
  2. Discmania P2 Psycho
  3. Westside Harp
  4. Dynamic Discs Judge
  5. Dynamic Discs Warden
  6. Gateway Wizard
  7. Innova Nova
  8. Latitude 64 Pure
  9. Dynamic Discs Deputy
  10. Axiom Envy

Top Putt and Approach Discs Q3

  1. Innova Aviar
  2. Innova Sonic
  3. Discmania P2 Psycho
  4. Dynamic Discs Judge
  5. Dynamic Discs Warden
  6. Innova Nova
  7. Westside Harp
  8. Gateway Wizard
  9. Latitude 64 Pure
  10. Axiom Envy

Top Putt and Approach Discs Combined

  1. Innova Aviar
  2. Discmania P2 Psycho
  3. Innova Sonic
  4. Dynamic Discs Judge
  5. Westside Harp
  6. Dynamic Discs Warden
  7. Gateway Wizard
  8. Innova Nova
  9. Latitude 64 Pure
  10. Axiom Envy

Other than the Innova Sonic making a “super-sonic” jump to the top of the charts (too cheesy?), the names on these charts are very familiar. The only really notable change to me is the Westside Harp dropping from number 3 in Q2 all the way down to 7 in Q3. It will be interesting to see if this is the start of a trend or just a seasonal drop.

Well, that does it for this quarterly report! But do you want more? Do you enjoy these best selling posts but hate having to wait 3 months (or 6) to see the next one? Well then I bet you’d be a fan of our new Top Twenty Tuesday posts! We at Infinite Discs are now revealing our best selling discs of each week every Tuesday. So make sure you come back to the Infinite Discs Blog every week to stay in the loop!

Disc Data: Top Selling Trilogy Molds

We’re back again with more Disc Data! This time we take a look at the top selling molds from Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, and Westside Discs. (Aka: Trilogy). We’re going to break it down by brand first, and then show them all compared together. Plus, at the end we will look at a summary of the three brand sales compared to each other.

Let’s kick it off with Dynamic Discs:

Right off we see that three putters, the Judge, Warden, and Deputy take the top three spots. To me this isn’t too surprising, as these putters have always sold well. The Deputy is the newest of the three and has climbed it’s way up the ranks since it’s release. Nothing else too crazy here, just cool data.

From Latitude 64 we see that another putter, the Pure takes first place by a good margin. The River follows up in second place. This isn’t too surprising, as this is a super popular disc for beginners and lower arm speeds. The Dagger has taken a fall though- it used to be the best seller of Latitude a couple of years ago due to Ricky Wysocki’s growing popularity. Recently the Dagger has slowed down a little bit, but still remains the third highest selling Latitude 64 disc, which is nothing to scoff at.

Wow. The Harp has truly shown it’s dominance this year by holding that number one spot and beating the Destiny by about triple. The best sellers drop off fast here, and then remain fairly steady throughout the rest of the molds. People really love the Harp, what more can be said?

But what do these sales look like against each other? Let’s take a look at all of the brands compared side by side:

Here we see that putters capture the top 5 spots of all three brands. The Judge still squeaks ahead of the Harp for the top spot! Do you see anything that intrigues you? Let me know in the comments!

Finally, let’s look at the brand sales compared to each other.

I thought this data was interesting. We start off with discs sold by brand. This is the total number of units sold by brand compared to each other. (Sorry, can’t reveal exact figures.) The second graph shows how many molds each brand has in production. A mold was counted if we sold any of it during the last year. So some OOP molds may still be counted if we still have remaining inventory to be sold.

The last graph represents the average number of discs sold per mold. We took the number of discs sold over the last year and divided it by the number of molds this brand produces.

This data shows some interesting things. First of all, Dynamic Discs holds 42.2% of the sales of the three Trilogy brands. However, Latitude 64 has 56 molds as compared to 32 and 31 from Dynamic and Westside. With nearly double the molds, but only a third of the molds sold, this shows as Latitude has the lowest average number of discs sold per mold. Westside Discs overtakes in this final category, proving that its few molds still hold a lot of power. This could be due to the Harp alone, or because of their unique stamps.

Do you notice anything else interesting? Let me know! Hope you’ve enjoyed this weeks’ Disc Data!

Top Twenty Tuesday – October 16th 2018

We’re happy to present the weekly blog post called TOP TWENTY TUESDAY which is intended to let you know about the short-term sales trends for discs. We’ve regularly published different best-seller lists for the quarter, or for the year, etc. But sometimes it is fun to look at what the hot sellers are for a short period of time. In this case, we’ll show the sales figures from the previous Tuesday through the most recent Monday. Basically, you’ll be seeing the best-sellers for exactly the last week of sales at Infinite Discs. New discs will likely spike in the chart, and it will be fun to see which discs keep up the pace, and which long-term sellers appear week after week. These will also be broken down by plastic types, so the same model can show up in multiple plastics.
HERE WE GO…

Top Twenty Tuesday for OCTOBER 16th, 2018

#5 – P-Line P2
#6 – DX AVIAR
#10 – D-Line P2
#12 – Star SHRYKE
#16 – Star MAKO3
#18 – Lucid PATROL
#20 – Star TEEBIRD
There are a couple of interesting things on this week’s chart when compared to last weeks chart (CLICK HERE for last week’s chart). Discmania had two new releases which shot straight to the top with the Swirly S-Line DD and the Glow D-Line P2 (Halloween Edition). New releases will usually shake up the weekly chart, since they get a boost in sales just by virtue of being new. Thus, the Star Destroyer and regular P-Line P2 dropped to those new releases. Also, we got two of the Trilogy Challenge discs in stock this last week, and the Origio Burst Maiden putter sold out almost the same day it was added to our website. The Lucid Patrol is also selling well as one of those Trilogy Challenge discs and made it onto the chart. Full Foil Super Color Buzzz discs are continuing to get spikes in sales from time to time as people collect the different stamp designs.
–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The first three people to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $15 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.
The winners from last week’s guessing are Steven Bidigare and Joe N, who both predicted that the D-Line P2 would slide to the 10th position. Congratulations!

Discraft and Full Foil Supercolor Art

Discraft experimented with Full Foil discs a couple of years ago, covering the entire top of some discs with the foil that is generally used in stamping stock or custom stamps. This year, in 2018, Discraft unleashed their Full Foil Supercolor stamps in earnest, really giving the look a push during the Ledgestone Open tournament. They successfully put a full color image onto the foil itself, and then press the entire foil sheet with the image over the top of the disc. It’s a cool new look for disc art, though still a bit on the pricey side.

The Buzzz was the obvious first target for Full Foil releases, and there have been several fun designs released with the shiny look. Plus, there are three different base foils that have been used: Plain Prism, Star, and Sparkle. So, you can go for a smoother foil look with plain, or go for sparkly foil or little star patterns in your foil– none of which has a negative effect on the color image that is part of the foil itself.

There have been a fun variety of Full Foil Supercolor Buzzz images released now, including a series of zombie discs, a series of retro bees, and the new Halloween stamp for 2018. Here are some examples:

Discraft also unleashed a couple of limited edition Full Foil Supercolor discs on models besides the Buzzz, like the popular overstable fairway driver, the VULTURE, and the popular putter, the ROACH.

Infinite Discs released the first Full Foil Supercolor edition of the awesome mid-range, the COMET as the featured monthly VIP CLUB disc in September 2018. It featured a great T-Rex image on all three foil types (plain, sparkle, and star). There were only 600 made for the VIP Club members.

It will be fun to watch as new Full Foil Supercolor discs are added to the Discraft lineup, and to see what else Discraft comes up with, in terms of artwork approaches. They’ve always been an innovator with their plastics and their use of foils and full color artwork.

The New DISC SLINGER Bag from Infinite Discs

Here at Infinite Discs, we’ve been listening to our customers and have worked to fill a niche for lightweight, inexpensive disc bags for casual rounds. We’ve meshed the simplicity and low price of a starter shoulder bag together with the comfort and convenience of a backpack. If you want to head out to the course with a dozen discs, this is a great way to do it.

The Infinite Disc Slinger is a quality bag option for beginners as well as experienced players who don’t want to deal with the bulk of a large tournament bag or cart. You can throw it over your shoulder (the strap can be adjusted for whichever shoulder you prefer), carry it in your hand, or sling it across your body like popular sling bags.

BAG FEATURES:

The inside pocket carries up to 10 discs, including two inside slots for your go-to discs.

The putter pouch on the front of the bag easily carries two putters and even fits oversized discs like the Condor.

The drink holder carries water bottles and drinks with an adjustable pull string.

Vertical zipper pocket on the back of the bag carries your keys, wallet, mini, grip bag, or other small accessories.

Double eye-hole on the top of the bag allows for easy clipping of your towel and bag tags.

High quality, padded shoulder strap for hanging on your shoulder or adjusting for wearing across your chest (sling bag).

Adjustable strap clips in two different possible configurations so you can adjust for your preferred shoulder.

It’s hard to pick up any kind of bag that carries your discs around so comfortably for just under $20. We’re happy to provide some options! The Infinite Disc Slinger is currently available in black or blue.

The slinger bag has been voted the best starter disc golf bag by a number of different disc golf review blogs. Try this stylish and affordable bag your self.

Holiday Preparations 2018 – Halloween and Black Friday Hints

Here at Infinite Discs we have to start our preparations for the holiday season early. Since we try to put together an exciting lineup of fun discs and products for the period that stretches from Halloween to Christmas, we need to start making arrangements before the summer is even over.

While we can’t reveal what those special deals and limited editions will look like right now, we can tell you a little bit about what to expect. It is time to drop some hints…

Halloween…

There are some brands that have made it a tradition to release special, spooky edition discs in October, including MVP / Axiom, Innova, and Legacy. We do plan to make those available, though we are sometimes limited in how many discs we can get with those limited editions. We’ll do our best to make sure they are available for our customers. Check out what Innova has already announced for Halloween 2018:

We don’t know yet what is coming from other brands, but we’re on the lookout! But just to make sure you have a great variety of spooky stamp options, Infinite Discs is planning on releasing a very cool spider stamp on both Innova and Trilogy, as well as an decorative animal skull stamp on Discmania and Discraft. Here is a sneak-peek of the animal skull:

And here is a sneak-peek of the spider stamp:

We may unleash another surprise or two for Halloween. Check out this link for all of our Halloween themed discs stamps.

But let’s move onto a few hints on Black Friday 2018.

Black Friday 2018…

It has been our tradition to have a different sale for different brands every day, starting on Thanksgiving, and going through the next five or six days. Traditionally we have featured MVP / Axiom as the brand on Thanksgiving, and we are thinking of keeping it that way. After all, the three-color stamps we have lined up for that day are always exciting and the MVP fans are always very supportive of the sale.

As for the other days, we do plan on having an INFINITE DISCS day, which is a new thing this year, since we kicked off our own brand of discs in 2018. We have a couple of special runs on unique plastics with cool stamp designs, all lined up for release on Infinite Discs day. Plus…we might…just might…release a new, unique disc model on that day as well.

We have a great stamp lined up across multiple popular disc models for on Innova, Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, and Westside Discs, and you’ll see those unleashed on Trilogy Day (likely Saturday, Nov. 24th) and Innova Day (likely Monday, Nov. 26th). But on top of that, we do have a small run of a unique plastic type for an upcoming Trilogy disc that we will unleash, plus we have a special run of a very popular Innova model that will be featured with a unique stamp. We’re excited for those special editions!

We also have arranged with other brands, including Discraft, Discmania, and others (details still being worked out) to put out special editions. In fact, we are looking at making a very limited supply of an out-of-production disc available that week.

We will feature some of the other traditional brand discounts, plus the gift card offering for those making purchases of large items, like backpacks or carts. We want to make sure that you can get some great disc golf stuff for the holiday season, whether for yourself, or for the people you love. We’ll also make some spots available in the VIP Club for people who want to give the gift of a collectible, fun disc every month for a year!

Watch for surprises, and keep your eyes on our social media to find out the exact brand days and details of the week of features and sales.
