TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – JULY 31ST 2019

Welcome to another Top 20 Tuesday sales chart. We break these charts down by plastics as well so you can see which plastic types are most popular for each disc. New discs will often spike in the chart as other top sellers shuffle position. The chart is created by sales figures that are pulled from all Infinite Discs sales for the previous week — our customers decide the results with their purchases.

Top Twenty Tuesday for July 31st, 2019

#1 – ESP ANAX
#2 – Nexus FIREFLY
#3 – ESP ZEUS
#4 – Discraft Special Blend LUNA
#5 – D-Line P2
#6 – Star DESTROYER
#7 – Star ORC
#8 – D-Blend SCARAB
#9 – S-Line DD3
#10 – Pro PIG
#11 – Splatter S-Blend CENTURION
#12 – Luster SHARK
#13 – Champion FIREBIRD
#14 – Star LEOPARD3
#15 – Star WRAITH
#16 – Active Baseline TIGER WARRIOR
#17 – DX AVIAR
#18 – Champion Colored Glow FIREBIRD
#19 – R-Pro PIG
#20 – Metallic Opto Trident

There were no big runaway discs at the top of the chart this week. The prototype ANEX took the top spot, followed closely by the Nate Sexton Nexus FIREFLY putter. The first run ZEUS followed closely in 3rd place with the Luna not far behind. The we see some charge regulars like the D-Line P2, Star DESTROYER, Star ORC, etc.

The D-Blend SCARAB debuted on the chart at #8 and the Infinite Discs fundraiser disc, the CENTURION grabbed the #11 spot. The PIG is holding strong with two spots on the chart in both Pro and R-Pro as Ricky Wysocki continues to make use it in tournament play.

Once again, you can see the brands represented with different colors on the chart to more clearly show how much each is represented. Innova is still taking the most spots with 11 red lines, though Discraft blue has been holding some high positions on the chart this year with the Paul McBeth line.

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The person to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $10 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER – The #8 spot was taken by the D-Blend SCARAB which had a stock edition release last week. It looks like nobody picked that one, since it was a new edition to the website.

GIFT CARD PREDICTION FOR NEXT WEEK:  Leave your comment below to guess the #15 spot for next week. Good luck!

Hot Disc Brands of 2019

When Paul McBeth announced his change of sponsors from Innova to Discraft at the end of 2018 we knew it would have an impact on the buyer behavior of die hard disc golfers. Many scoffed at the million dollar contract and wondered how Discraft could afford to pay a professional disc golfer that much money.

After looking at our sales numbers for the first half of the year 2019, it appears that Paul McBeths brand value for disc sales may have been underestimated. When it comes to “hot brands of 2019,” among the major players, Discraft is on fire.

During the first six months of 2018, Discraft was our #5 brand in terms of disc sales. The Innova, Discmania, Dynamic Discs, and Latitude 64 brands all accounted for more InfiniteDiscs.com sales than did Discraft — which represented less than 7% of our online sales.

Jan – June 2019 InfiniteDiscs.com Sales By Brand

Through the first half of 2019 Discraft sales have nearly tripled! The introduction of the Paul McBeth Kong/Zeus was our hottest disc release ever. Sales of the Anax and Luna were almost just as hot. While Innova is still #1, Discraft has sold more discs than the #3 and #4 brands combined. The sales difference gap between Innova and Discraft was less than 13% during the first half of 2019 compared with a 31.5% difference during the same time period one year ago.

Not all of the credit can be given to Paul McBeth. Discraft has made some major changes to prepare themselves for a massive production increase that would bring their brand back to the top. Discraft Swirly ESP plastic is arguably the best looking plastic on the market. Discraft has done a brilliant job re-marketing themselves as a leader in disc golf.

With such a rapid increase in Discraft sales, the question arises, is it at the expense of other brands?

Overall, our total disc sales at Infinite Discs are up slightly for the first half of the year, but Discraft is taking market share from others and we have seen a year over year decline in sales for some brands.

Brands That Saw Sales Declines

Among the larger brands we sell, Innova and Discmania (brands Paul McBeth used to promote) have seen a slight decline in sales. During the off season, Discmania made some significant changes by also manufacturing with Latitude 64 and Yikun. With these changes I was very surprised to see that our Discmania sales declined. Had they sufficient stock of DD3’s to meet our buyers demand, I’m pretty sure Discmania would not have appeared on this list.

The biggest “hit” taken on brand preference in 2019 among our customers appears to be decreased demand for Latitude 64 and Westside Discs. Our online sales for Latitude 64 were down 17% while the Westside brand was down almost 25%. One likely reason for a decrease in sales of these brands is the loss of Ricky Wysocki as a Latitude 64 sponsored player.

During the first six months of 2018, the Westside Harp (one of the primary discs used by Ricky Wysocki) was our #11 selling disc. During the same period of 2019, Harp sales dropped to #26. The Explorer dropped from #36 to #62 and the Dagger dropped from #47 to #92.

Meanwhile the Innova Pig went from being our 175th best selling disc in 2018 to our 45th best selling disc during the first half of 2019. Despite the loss of Paul McBeth, the Ricky Wysocki signature Destroyer has helped that disc remain as our top selling disc of 2019. The addition of Ricky Wysocki to Team Innova undoubtedly lightened the blow of losing McBeth.

Other Brands That Increased in Sales Despite Discraft’s Surge

The third member of the Trilogy family, Dynamic Discs, saw a modest 3% sales increase compared with 2018. The new Raider distance driver undoubtedly helped those sales.

MVP and Axiom, with their triple foil artwork and loyal fan-base, saw growth rates of 24% and 27% respectively. Their unrelenting new release schedule and new swirly plastic blends fanned the flames.

With the addition of five new molds, sales of the Infinite Discs brand increased by 66% during the first half of 2019.

Prodigy Disc saw an impressive sales increase 43%. Some of this increase can be attributed to the success of their pros, particularly Kevin Jones, who is having a fantastic year and is becoming one of the most liked players on tour.

Gateway, which has made a big emphasis on improving their premium plastic look and feel, saw a modest increase in 2019 sales of 5%.

Most of the smaller disc brands also saw an increase in our online sales with the exceptions being Legacy, Hyzer Bomb, and Viking Discs. A primary reason for the reduction in Viking sales is our inability to order more of these discs from Finland. We have been in need of a major restock for most of the year, and we can’t sell discs that we do not have. With Hyzer Bomb, the sales figures are most likely an adjustment after an incredible run on Mortar discs.

Growth Among Smaller Disc Brands

The introduction of several new molds, as well as the new “Cosmic Neutron” plastic blend, has helped Streamline to a 91% 2019 sales increase. Through the first six months, Streamline is currently our #11 selling disc brand.

Kastaplast’s popular plastic feel and increased availability lead to an increase of more than double their 2018 sales in 2019.

Yikun saw the largest percentage of sales growth from companies not named Discraft. The increase in Yikun sales may be partially attributed to Discmania’s partnership with the Yikun brand which has some players interested in checking out the additional molds.

DGA saw a 56% increase in sales during the first half of 2019. DGA’s likely benefited from their partnership with Discraft and the fact that Paul McBeth spent some time throwing DGA branded discs.

RPM discs out of New Zealand saw a healthy 84% year over year increase while Finland’s Prodiscus brand saw a modest 27% improvement.

The release of their second disc, the Bobcat, helped Mint Discs increase sales by 65% this year.

The first half of 2019 has been a dramatic ride for the ever changing landscape of disc sales. It will be interesting to see if the Discraft popularity surge has peaked, or if the hype for Paul McBeth products will continue.

Disclaimer: The numbers used for this article are taken solely from InfiniteDiscs.com sales, and do not necessarily reflect the actual sales trends for the different brands among all retail outlets. InfiniteDiscs.com customers are primarily avid disc golfers who regularly follow professional disc golf. Casual disc golfers, that represent the majority of people who play disc golf, are less likely to be influenced by the moves of professional disc golfers.

TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – JULY 23RD 2019

Welcome to another Top 20 Tuesday sales chart. We break these charts down by plastics as well so you can see which plastic types are most popular for each disc. New discs will often spike in the chart as other top sellers shuffle position. Top Twenty Tuesday for July 23rd, 2019

#1 – ESP ZEUS
#2 – ESP ANAX
#3 – Discraft Special Blend LUNA
#4 – Metallic Opto Trident
#5 – Star DESTROYER
#6 – D-Line P2
#7 – Star WRAITH
#8 – 400 MX-3
#9 – Neo METHOD
#10 – DX AVIAR
#11 – Star SONIC
#12 – Champion Colored Glow FIREBIRD
#13 – XT NOVA
#14 – Active Baseline TIGER WARRIOR
#15 – DX AVIAR CLASSIC
#16 – Champion MAKO3
#17 – R-Pro PIG
#18 – Champion FIREBIRD
#19 – Star VALKYRIE
#20 – K1 FALK

Notice, we’ve got a new look to the Top 20 Tuesday chart now. The lines on the graph will be colored, based on the brand. That way you can see which colors are standing out each week and where brands are jumping in.

The top three lines are blue, ruled by Discraft with the #1 Zeus, #2 Anax, and #3 Luna. Those were the only three spots taken by Discraft this week as Innova (represented in red) flooded the Top 20 with a bunch of old favorites, taking 11 of the top 20 positions. That is likely due to the ongoing Innova restock we’ve got going here at Infinite Discs (it takes days to add an Innova shipment lately, since they come on pallets).

The four spot is taken by the Metallic Opto Trident, which we have only added to our online store quietly, in small bursts, but they keep getting snapped up. We also see three entries from Discmania, including the usual P2, and the popular new Method midrange, and the Tiger Warrior putter. The Kastaplast FALK sneaked into the #20 spot this week.

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The person to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $10 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER – The #7 spot was taken by the Star Wraith this week. Colin guessed it first, with a later guess by Matt who said “because why not?” Well sure, why not? But sorry Matt, Colin guessed it first this time, so he takes the prize.

Top Selling Discs–Q2 of 2019

The always hectic summer in the disc golf world is in full swing! We are doing everything we can here at Infinite Discs to stay on top of it all. This post is a little late, but it is time to take a look back at the top selling discs of the second quarter in 2019!

Top 10 Overall

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Discraft Zeus
  3. Discraft Buzzz
  4. Discmania P2 Psycho
  5. Discraft Luna
  6. Innova Wraith
  7. Infinite Discs Pharaoh
  8. Discraft Zone
  9. Dynamic Discs Judge
  10. Innova Firebird

The disc formerly known as Kong, aka the Discraft Zeus, has been flying off the shelves, but it still wasn’t enough to beat out the “original” Paul McBeth distance driver. The Innova Destroyer stayed at number one this quarter, but it will be exciting to see if the stock stamp release of the Zeus will push it up to the top spot. Beyond that, we see most of the same names we saw last quarter with the most movement coming from the Innova Firebird that dropped from 5 to 10.

Top Distance Drivers

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Discraft Zeus
  3. Innova Wraith
  4. Infinite Discs Pharaoh
  5. Innova Firebird
  6. Dynamic Discs Raider
  7. Infinite Discs Emperor
  8. Innova Valkyrie
  9. Innova Shryke
  10. Innova Beast

As always, we see Innova with a strong presence in the distance driver category. They manufacture 8 of the 10. But the other two discs may not be going anywhere soon. The Zeus has proven to be a hit, and the Raider was an instant success for Dynamic Discs. It will be interesting to see if both of these discs can continue to compete with the rest of the Innova made distance drivers that seem to always be at the top of the charts. Oh, and don’t sleep on the newly released Infinite Discs Emperor. I think we will continue to see this disc in the top 10 for a while.

Top Control/Fairway Drivers

  1. Innova Thunderbird
  2. Innova Teebird
  3. Discmania FD Jackal
  4. Innova Leopard
  5. Innova Leopard3
  6. Discmania Instinct
  7. Discraft Undertaker
  8. Innova Roadrunner
  9. Innova Eagle
  10. Innova TeeBird3

Like with the distance drivers, Innova manufactures 8 of these top 10 discs. I think this is the first time we have seen the Innova Thunderbird take the number one spot. It is always near the top, but the new Swirly Star Jeremy Koling Thunderbirds finally bumped it to number one. The newly released Discmania Evolution Instinct came in at 6 with a lot of hype. We will see if it continues to sell well down the road. Beyond that, we have a lot of the same in the fairway drivers.

Top Midrange Discs

  1. Discraft Buzzz
  2. Innova Roc3
  3. Innova Roc
  4. Innova Mako3
  5. Discraft Comet
  6. Discmania MD3
  7. Mint Discs Bobcat
  8. Dynamic Discs EMac Truth
  9. Discraft Buzzz OS
  10. Discraft Buzzz SS

The top half of the midrange chart stayed nearly identical featuring the same top 4 as last quarter, but the bottom half shook up a bit. We haven’t heard a lot about Mint Discs since they released the very successful Alpha a few years ago, but now they add a midrange to the mix with the Bobcat taking our 7 spot. Also we see Discraft continuing to have a positive year on the sales charts with the Buzzz SS making its first appearance on the top 10 for as long as I can remember.

Top Putt and Approach Discs

  1. Discmania P2 Psycho
  2. Discraft Luna
  3. Discraft Zone
  4. Dynamic Discs Judge
  5. Axiom Envy
  6. Innova Aviar
  7. Dynamic Discs Warden
  8. Gateway Wizard
  9. Streamline Pilot
  10. MVP Entropy

This is something I’ve never seen before. All top 8 selling putt and approach discs this quarter are in the exact same position as last quarter. I guess we are pretty consistent with our putt and approach game here at Infinite Discs :). The Streamline Pilot cracked the top 10 this quarter with help from a Special Edition release in Streamline’s Neutron and Cosmic Neutron. The MVP Entropy is a newly released overstable approach disc that fills a great slot in the MVP lineup.

And that does it for our 2019 Q2 top sellers! Do any of these charts surprise you? What discs did better/worse than you would have expected? Tell us in the comments! And see you next quarter!

TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – JULY 16TH 2019

Welcome to another Top 20 Tuesday sales chart. We break these charts down by plastics as well so you can see which plastic types are most popular for each disc. New discs will often spike in the chart as other top sellers shuffle position. The chart is created by sales figures that are pulled from all Infinite Discs sales for the previous week — our customers decide the results with their purchases.

Top Twenty Tuesday for July 16th, 2019

#1 – ESP ANAX
#2 – ESP ZEUS (formerly the Kong)
#3 – Discraft Special Blend LUNA
#4 – Metallic Opto Trident
#5 – D-Line P2
#6 – Star DESTROYER
#7 – Neo METHOD
#8 – Prism Proton PYRO
#9 – ESP BUZZZ
#10 – Jawbreaker ROACH
#11 – Fuzion RAIDER
#12 – Swirly S-Blend X-Out PHARAOH
#13 – C-Line FD
#14 – Champion MAKO3
#15 – ESP COMET
#16 – Big Z ROACH
#17 – Splatter S-Blend Centurion
#18 – R-Pro PIG
#19 – Star SONIC
#20 – Star WRAITH

This week was another of those weeks where the top couple of discs just blew everything else away. The new prototype ANAX and the First Run ZEUS took the first two spots with a vengeance. If anybody has any question about whether or not a single player can swing a marketplace, just take a look at the sales of Paul McBeth’s new line and any doubts should be put to rest. The Luna putter in Paul’s line took the 3rd spot as well.

The #4 spot was taken by a disc that we just sneakily added a few to see if anybody would notice– the Metallic Opto Trident. That out-of-production overstable driver has a strong cult following! The P2 continues to be a strong-selling putter, taking the #5 spot. Other new releases like the Method and the Pyro are still handing around, as is the steady-selling Raider by Dynamic Discs.

It is interesting to see the Roach putter by Discraft moving up into the ranks, particularly in the Jawbreaker and Elite Z plastics. That Elite Z Roach is like a perfect substitute for the much-sought-after Big Z Luna.

Here is how the brands stacked up this week with the number of times they showed up in the Top 20:

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The person to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $10 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER – The #5 spot was picked up by the D-Line P2 this week, which is a disc that steadily holds top spots on the top 20 chart week after week. Colin was the only to guess that putter for the #5 spot, so he’s the winner this week!

Discraft’s Paul McBeth Prototype Anax & First Run Zeus

Prototype Anax & First Run Zeus

The day is almost here! The Prototype Anax & First Run Zeus release Friday, July 12 at midnight eastern time. You can find the Anax here and the Zeus here at that exact time! They come in beautiful colors and many have great swirls in them. The ESP plastic feels very good!

The Anax

The Anax (pronounced “Onyx” according to Discraft) is Paul McBeth’s newest signature driver. It’s a few notches slower than the Zeus, coming in at a speed 10. Beginners may find this disc to be overstable, but more advanced players will find the Anax goes straight for a long time, maximizing it’s 6 glide rating to the fullest before fading out at the end of the flight. We made a quick video review about the Anax:

The Zeus

Formerly known as the Kong, the Zeus is Paul McBeth’s go-to signature distance driver.

This is an overstable distance driver, similar to a Destroyer in flight. Previously, we’ve only had access to Prototype Zeus/Kongs. Now, this release presents to us the First Run edition of the Zeus.

Be sure to pick yours up tonight at midnight eastern!

TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – JULY 9TH 2019

Welcome to another Top 20 Tuesday sales chart. We break these charts down by plastics as well so you can see which plastic types are most popular for each disc. New discs will often spike in the chart as other top sellers shuffle position. The chart is created by sales figures that are pulled from all Infinite Discs sales for the previous week — our customers decide the results with their purchases.

Top Twenty Tuesday for July 9th, 2019

#1 – Prism Proton PYRO
#2 – Nexus FIREFLY
#3 – Neo METHOD
#4 – ESP ZEUS (formerly the Kong)
#5 – Star DESTROYER
#6 – Lucid RAIDER
#7 – Star ORC
#8 – Swirly S-Blend X-Out PHARAOH
#9 – R-Pro PIG
#10 – Star SONIC
#11 – DX VALKYRIE
#12 – Star WRAITH
#13 – D-Line P2
#14 – ESP BUZZZ
#15 – DX CONDOR
#16 – DX AVIAR
#17 – Metal Flake Glow C-Blend PHARAOH
#18 – Neo INSTINCT
#19 – Splatter S-Blend EMPEROR
#20 – Opto RIVER

The new Prism PYRO by Axiom took the number one spot, followed by the Nexus FIREFLY which made its debut last week (Nate Sexton’s new signature Putter). The Neo METHOD by Discmania is right up there at #3 with the Neo INSTINCT also hitting the chart at #18.

The Discraft ZEUS (used to be the KONG) is in 4th place as the prototype supply diminishes, and the Star DESTROYER holds strong at #5. The Lucid RAIDER, which has been a hard one to get in the general disc golf market, comes in at #6 in the special edition with the additional ring bottom-stamp. Much of the list seems made up of old favorites and stock editions, which means that the burst of new releases settled quickly.

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The person to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $10 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER – The #10 spot was snagged by the Star Sonic this week, which is Garrett Gurthie’s signature Innova disc. We had one guess for the Star Sonic, so congratulations to Kester for getting it right!

GIFT CARD PREDICTION FOR NEXT WEEK:  Leave your comment below to guess the #5 spot for next week. Good luck!

2019 Infinite Discs Signature Series Discs

As we’re enjoying the summer disc golf months, we thought that we’d introduce you to this year’s signature disc collection on the Infinite Discs brand. These are discs that we release in cooperation with professional players so that we can help to financially support their travels during the tournament season. By purchasing these great discs, you also help to contribute to their touring. If you enjoy watching these players, you want to help to grow the sport, and you want to try some new discs, we encourage you to spend the couple of dollars extra to get a signature series disc, no matter what the brand.

DAVID FELDBERG – SPLATTER S-BLEND EMPEROR

The Splatter S-Blend run of Emperor discs is technically “Run 2” and is a very solid distance driver that came out more overstable than the Run 1 I-Blend edition. The entire run is dedicated to Team Infinite player, DAVID FELDBERG, who wanted to show that quality players can use a mixed bag of different brands and still play at a high level. Yes, he does use the Emperor by Infinite Discs as a primary driver, but it fits in his bag along with discs from many great brands, and we’re happy to have him on the team.

We thought it would be fun to present two different stamps for David’s signature disc– one that focuses more on him and that has a play on the classic, Greek Olympian pose, and another that has more of a stock stamp flavor with a touch of ancient Rome.

GARRETT GURTHIE – METAL FLAKE GLOW C-BLEND PHARAOH

Infinite Discs was happy to sponsor Garrett Gurthie starting in 2018 when he was making his touring comeback. He had a 2018 signature Pharaoh and a signature Slab, but for 2019 he wanted to have a signature edition Metal Flake Glow C-Blend Emperor so that he could add it to his distance driver arsenal. Garrett is best known for his ability to throw amazing distances and he has already started to stack up some big wins in the 2019 season. Garrett is also a member of Innova’s Champion team.

This is the first edition of the Garrett Gurthie signature stamp and there will be another later in the year, so keep your eyes open!

JESSICA WEESE – SWIRLY S-BLEND PHARAOH

We’ve been happy to work with Jessica Weese since 2018 as well. She is a member of Innova’s Star team and one of the best FPO players in the game. Last year Jessica had a signature Chariot mid-range with Infinite Discs, and for 2019 she has a signature Swirly S-Blend Pharaoh which was part of a very flat-topped run with extra stability for distance throwers.

NICOLE “PICKLE” DIONISIO – C-BLEND SCEPTER

Nicole Dionisio is an FPO player from Maine who works closely with her local disc golf scene and who is loved by other professional players wherever she plays. Known affectionately as Pickle, she’s a great ambassador for the sport and is proudly sponsored by Infinite Discs. For 2018 she had a signature S-Blend Exodus, and for 2019 she fell in love with the new Scepter, which is a very overstable, flat-topped fairway driver in the Infinite Discs line.  Pickle throws a lot of forehand drives and her signature C-Blend Scepter works into her style perfectly with its beefy fade and wind-fighting power.

JOEL FREEMAN – X-BLEND SCARAB

Joel Freeman is another great player on Innova’s Champion team and who started working with Infintie Discs in 2019 for a special signature edition disc. He wanted to take his putting game to the next level for the 2019 touring season and requested a run of putters now known as the Scarab. Joel prefers the X-Blend for its good grip in all weather conditions, including rain or cold. Check out Joe’s signature X-Blend Scarab for a great, beaded putter with nice glide for both long and short putts.

COMING SOON…

Infinite Discs is also excited to announce another fun signature edition disc for 2019 which we hope to release in the end of July.

JEREMY KOLING “BIG JERM” – CONCRETE SLAB

Big Jerm got his hands on a Slab early in the 2019 season and pulled it out of his bag during a tournament to give it a try. He ended up loving its flat profile and overstable, high-speed flight. While doing commentary for a professional disc golf round on Youtube, he jokingly called the plastic type “concrete” so that he could say he was throwing a “Concrete Slab,” so Infinite Discs decided to run with that name. The signature Slab for Big Jerm is a mix of metal flake and luster C-Blend plastic which we’ll obligingly call “Concrete.”

Other partnerships with other great players are in the works. Infinite Discs is excited to help support these great players with fun discs that they enjoy throwing.
