Did you know disc golf has its very own holiday? Yep, this Saturday is National Disc Golf Day. While you won’t get a day off with pay, you can celebrate with us by enjoying a sale on many different brands. More sale info below.

National Disc Golf Day

National Disc Golf Day started back in 2016 by two people passionate about disc golf. Jason Wilder was a PDGA state coordinator for Minnesota. He teamed up with Throw Pink co-founder Sara Nicholson to petition for the ‘holiday’. With input from disc golf legends Dan “Stork” Roddick, Jim Palmeri, and Tom Monroe, the group decided on the first Saturday in August as the day to celebrate and recognize disc golf.

There were a several reasons why the first Saturday was chosen. First, the American Flying Disc Open was held in August 1974. That was one of the first competitions in the U.S. First prize for the event was a new car, a 1974 Datsun B210.

The second reason August was chosen was because it was the month that “Steady” Ed Headrick patented the ‘Flying Disc Entrapment Device’, or disc golf basket, in 1977. It was a celebration of the month that gave us two important events in disc golf history.

How Does Someone Celebrate National Disc Golf Day?

There are several ways disc golfers can celebrate this fun day:

1 – Play disc golf! You could play in a tournament, get together with friends to play, or play a solo round. In other words, what you were probably going to do anyway!

2 – Grow the sport. Invite someone new to play with you. You might just end up with another disc golf buddy.

3 – Watch some disc golf. This year, National Disc Golf Day happens to fall during the World Championships. It’s a good excuse to kick back and watch the best disc golfers in the world (after you play a round or two yourself,)

How TSA Started

Thought Space Athletics (TSA) is a disc golf brand synonymous with creativity, flair, and cool stamps. Their stamps are nothing short of works of art. However, they didn’t start out selling discs.

TSA dipped its toes in the disc golf world over a decade ago, when founder Aaron Wilmot observed a lack of high-quality, well-designed apparel for disc golfers. He set out to become a brand know for comfort, quality, and amazing designs.

Adding Plastic

After achieving that goal, and making a name for TSA, they decided to make a move to also become a disc golf manufacturer. They took their high standards for quality, and their amazing creativity with them as they began their journey toward producing their own discs.

 

In 2019, the first mold from TSA was approved by the PDGA, the Mantra. The slightly understable control driver has been a popular mold ever since. Following the Mantra, TSA has been regularly releasing new molds, including drivers, mids, and putters. They have such a variety of discs that you could build an all-TSA bag!

A Quick History of St. Patrick’s Day

Before we give the details of the sale, let’s take a moment to learn the origins of St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was actually born in Britain in the late 4th century. As a teenager, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave. After several years, he escaped, only to later return as a missionary to spread Christianity. Over time, he became a legendary figure associated with Irish culture, and March 17th—believed to be the date of his death—became a day of remembrance.

After you select the boxes, you can see how many discs fit those criteria. Below that number, select View Disc Models. To pick the exact disc, choose the model you want, then click ‘Select Your Disc’.

At the top of the page check the box marked ‘Green’. (NOTE: only discs marked ‘Green’ are eligible for the discount. If you pick ‘blue-green’, or some other combination that include ‘green’ the discount code won’t work for that disc.)

When six university schoolmates were introduced to disc sports, little did they know the depth they would get into the sport. They started out playing ultimate, but were eventually introduced to disc golf. During their final year in school they decided to start a company whose mission was to promote flying disc sports. Yikun Discs was born!

Yikun became a big name regionally, and eventually became the first Asian company to get discs approved by the PDGA, USA Ultimate, and the World Flying Disc Federation. They currently ship to over 40 countries.
