Backpack Releases October 2020

For those of you that are in the search of a new bag for whatever reason, we’ve recently put some new ones online for purchase. It seems that there is a bag for every price point within these new releases. Axiom Shuttle

The Axiom Shuttle is an excellent bargain bag. This is great if you’re switching from a shoulder bag to a backpack. DD Paratrooper

The DD Paratrooper is the big brother of the Trooper bag. This has the ability to carry 18+ discs in the main compartment. Where it has two decently sized side pockets, you’ll be able to carry the necessities and a little extra. The water bottle holders on this bag can hold some big bottles. A 32oz bottle fits in it with some wiggle space. With more padding than the trooper, you’ll carry the bag more comfortably. You’ll be able to buy this bag here for $99.99.

Latitude 64 Core Pro

The Latitude 64 Core pro is the next upgrade from their Core bag. This one will hold up to 18 discs in the main compartment. It is lighter than the Luxury E4 bag, making it less tiring to carry for those long days on the course. There are two side pockets that will allow you to carry a multitude of things that you’ll need on the course. You could fit a 32oz bottle in it and still have room for other things. There is an adjustable strap on one side that will allow easy carry of an umbrella or a tournament stool, or both. With this bag you’ll have what you need on the course. DD Combat Ranger

The DD Combat Ranger is a new bag that is based off of the beloved Ranger bag. This one has various improvements above the Ranger itself. The putter quick grab has a little more room for easier access. It has some upgrades that the Ranger doesn’t have. There is a bladder pouch for a bladder, or you could use if for disc storage as well. They’ve expanded upon the upper pouch, making it larger for more storage capabilities. September New Products Released

During the month of September, we’ve released a handful of new products which merit a mention. They are all strewn about the disc golf necessities: baskets, accessories, cart accessories, apparel, towels, and other accessories.

Baskets:

We’ve added three new portable baskets to our line up. They are all from Viking Discs and are affordable. There is the Royal Basket, the Battle Basket Pro, and the Polar Basket.

The Royal Basket has the heaviest chains on it, it is PDGA approved – meaning you can use it for target practice or a temporary course. It assembles and dissembles relatively quick. You can see the basket easily with the white band on top.

The Battle Basket Pro is a lightweight and low cost basket. This is designed to be more portable, leading to easy assembly and disassembly. It doesn’t have two rows of chains like the Royal Basket, but they’ve interconnected the chains to limit chain outs. This is a great at home practice target.

The Polar Basket is a smaller basket and very lightweight. It is designed slightly smaller than the regular basket to improve accuracy or for kids to learn and play on. This is a good portable basket to take with you camping, to a park, or to a day outing.

Accessories:

Infinite Discs is adding a new grip enhancement to the market, the Infinite Discs Chalk Ball. This tool is filled with magnesium carbonate grip chalk, similar to what rock climbers use. It features a bag to hold the ball of chalk, to prevent the chalk from spreading onto your clothes or bag. It also comes with a carabiner to attach it to your bag or to a belt loop for quick access. You can also tie off the pouch to prevent the ball from falling out while playing or for storage. Available for purchase for $9.99.

 

Cart Accessories:

Briggsiware has printed up some accessories for your Zuca cart. We now carry a Zuca Cart Handle cover, and some putter clips to attach to the handle stem of your cart.

Briggsiware Zuca Cart Putter Clip & Double Putter Clip are clips that you can attach to the stem of the Zuca Cart handle. This will place your putter(s) in a convenient location, near the handle of your cart! Apparel:

We released a Infinite branded Neck Gator. This way you can have protection around town and on the course from the sun, or from COVID-19. This has our bar logo in a “X” shape, offering a cool design from afar and the ability to rep Infinite Discs upon closer inspection. This is available for only $8.45 while the sale goes on.

 

Towels:

New to the towel section is the Kastaplast Towel. This is soft towel that is good to wick-away moisture from your discs. This comes in a little pouch for storage and play, designed to keep your towel out of the weeds, grass, dirt, or pavement. This will keep your towel safe from snagging on weeds, getting weed debris stuck in it, and keeping it clean. You can buy this for $7.95

 

Other Accessories:

Phoenix Displays has released a new and improved way to display your discs. Check out the Phoenix Wall Hangers. You can use these wall hangers to ensure that your discs will stay on the wall, be level, and on a straight line with your other mounted discs. You can chose between a tack, nail, or screw to attach the disc hanger to the wall. Now you can show off your ace discs and other good looking discs with ease. New Release of the Mint Mustang & Bullet

Mint Discs had a new release earlier this week, on Monday, September 7. A new stable midrange, the Mustang. And a new stable putter, the Bullet.

This midrange is a stable, straight flying. It has a good healthy fade at the end of its flight. The mustang will fly on whatever line you put it on. It makes an excellent compliment to the Bobcat.

The bullet is a straight flying putter. With a micro bead, this disc fits well in the hand, and it will keep its stable flight path for just a little longer. This is a great “point and shoot” putter.

David Feldberg’s Distance Driver, the Pharaoh

THE 2020 WINNER

After a race that saw the lead change a couple of times, we finally have a winner. While the Disc Elemental stamp took an early lead, and Hypnosis then moved to the front, after the final weekend, THE ACE took the lead for the home stretch. Hypnosis came in a close 2nd place.

THE ACE is the winner this year. Congratulations to designer Silas Pearson and a very enthusiastic support crew who got the word out on social media to give the disc sales a final push.

Thanks again to all of the artists who submitted their cool designs this year. And thanks to the disc golfers that supported those artists by voting and purchasing discs. It was another fun contest this year. Thanks!

 

 

Who Took the State of Disc Golf 2020 Survey

WHO TOOK THE SURVEY THIS YEAR?

We had 6,541 disc golfers who took the survey this year. As usual, most of the survey participants are based in the USA, though the numbers are growing in other countries as well. Of course, we launched the survey primarily to the market in the USA and it is in English, which may limit the number of people in other countries who are able to participate. Here is a look at the breakdown by state. The map displays a darker shade of green in the states that had the most participants. The color is more faint in the states with fewer participants.

Originally, we had under 4% of survey participants who were female, so we put out a last call request for more ladies to participate. They heard the call and we received a good number of last-minute female participants to give us a better, more rounded collection of opinions and feedback. We finished with 7.4% of participants being female. Thanks ladies!

How Old are Disc Golfers?

Disc golf is known as a sport that is playable by people of all ages. You don’t have to be in your prime to enjoy a round of disc golf. Nor do you need to be particularly athletic. The learning curve is fast and there are discs designed for players at any skill level. With all of that said, let’s take a look at the average ages of the people who took the time to answer the 2020 survey questions.

When a player needs to definite their own skill level, the results can be pretty mixed. Some of us have been playing for several years, yet always consider ourselves as recreational or intermediate at best. Some of us are involved with the sport for a very short time, yet our competitive nature drives us to claim advanced skill levels. When looking at how we rate ourselves, one person’s “beginner” can be another person’s “advanced” depending on the severity of levity of our self evaluation. But it’s still a fun question to ask.  We’re always surprised at how many participants call themselves “Professional.” Do they actually make money playing disc golf? We hope so!

Stamp Wars 2020 First Round Results

The voting has been finalized for the first round of Stamp Wars 2020. Theses are the results with total votes cast for each stamp design. The list on the LEFT are the stamp designs that are moving onto the 2nd Round and the list on the RIGHT are the ones that are not moving on.

The Great Horned Owl got the most votes in the first round. Let’s see how the 2nd round comes together with only half of the surviving submissions. After the 2nd round, the 3rd will feature the final 16 stamp designs for voting.

Once again, the voting will take place on the Infinite Discs Facebook page and on this round you’ll be able to select and vote for your favorite 8 designs. You’ll also be able to see the vote tally during the entire week. The voting for round 2 will continue until next Friday, January 31st, and then we’ll narrow the field again.

Infinite Discs RUIN – Overstable Approach Disc

THE CONCEPT

Infinite Discs is very excited to kick-off the 2020 year with a new disc release to help enhance your disc golf short game. We’ve been working with Innova, the manufacturer of the Infinite Discs line, to create a mold for a small diameter, overstable approach disc. We’ve noticed that a lot of players, including pro players, have turned from standard mid-range discs to approach discs that have dimensions more like putters. We wanted a disc that would fit that trend, with a relatively flat-top and manageable rim size for both forehand and backhand throwers. We also wanted the disc to be overstable enough that it could be thrown with speed and confidence to hold the line for a longer stretch and still finish with a solid fade.

Maybe you’ve watched players like Paul McBeth throw the Discraft Zone for shots approaching the basket from a couple hundred feet away. Or you’ve watched Ricky Wysocki throw some amazing approach shots with the Innova Pig (used to throw the Westside Harp for similar shots). The list could go on, with many players using overstable “putt-and-approach” discs to get through tight fairways or to make runs at the basket from longer distances. That’s what we wanted in our own disc line.

THE PROTOTYPE TEST

Several months passed while the mold was created and prepared for a test run. In late 2019 we received a small box of prototype discs from the Innova factory so we could test our overstable approach disc. It was exactly what we were hoping for. The profile was just right with a flat-top that would feel great for forehand approach shots, plus a rim size that was not too tall so that it could also be thrown backhand with comfort.

Some of us at Infinite Discs took the disc out to throw it around and see how it flew. It felt like a great overstable complement to the already popular Infinite Discs Tomb, which is more of a straight-flying approach disc with minimal fade. We could throw the new test disc even harder without turning it over and it had significantly more fade.

We made the remaining prototype discs available to Team Infinite and VIP Club members as “Infinite Proto Mold #15” and those few discs sold out immediately. Our office team sought feedback from outside players who picked up those prototypes, and that feedback was very positive. So, we decided to order a complete run in durable, long-lasting C-Blend plastic (Infinite Discs equivalent to Innova Champion plastic).

COMING UP WITH THE NAME

You may have noticed that the Infinite Discs lineup has been using names that primarily recall ancient cultures. The brand kicked off with ancient Egyptian references, including the Pharaoh, the RA, the Sphinx, etc. Some discs were named after elements that could move across different ancient cultures, like the Myth, the Tomb, or the Chariot.  In the second year, we moved into some ancient Roman names like the Emperor, the Centurion, the Cohort, etc. Our third year is intended to be themed with ancient American cultural names, like with the early release of the Aztec. But with the new approach disc, we again wanted to pick a name that would cross all of the cultures.

Plus, as an overstable approach disc, we thought it should sound dense, or heavy. Well, all of the ancient cultures we know about have left their mark on the landscape through ruins. The heavy, megalithic ruins tend to last the longest and are often more memorable. Whether the ancient pyramids, the ruins of the Roman Empire, or the impressive temples of central and south America, we can still see and visit the remains of those cultures today.

Thus, the RUIN was named and will feature artwork with any number of ancient cultural references. The name was first revealed with the PDGA approval announcement. We found some of the initial reactions to the name to be quite humorous. “This disc is going to RUIN your game,” or “this disc will RUIN the course.” Luckily, most of us at Infinite Discs think that disc golf should be fun and that making fun of names is pretty harmless. So, why not wreak wreck and ruin with your overstable approach disc?

The RUIN was born.

THE LIMITED EDITION FIRST RELEASE

Infinite Discs has kicked off some of the previous disc releases with limited edition stamps. We thought the RUIN deserved the same treatment, so our initial limited edition will feature an XXL stamp. And what better way to ruin the ancient Egyptian ruins than with an alien invasion? Some of our stamps featuring Aliens taking over ancient cultures have been well received, so this fits right in.
