Four New Discs Approved for Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs

As we look forward to 2019, we are excited to see what new molds are released! Lucky for us, we can take a sneak peak at four new molds from Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs. These molds were all PDGA approved in November 2018 and are set to release in 2019. Let’s take a look!

Latitude 64 Recoil

PDGA Approved: Nov. 23, 2018

Latitude 64 Recoil Distance Driver

The Recoil has also been announced on Latitude 64’s website, giving us a little more information on the disc. The Recoil has flight ratings of 12, 4, 0, 3. Latitude 64’s description says that it will be a comfortable disc to throw with reliable fade at the end of the flight.

Latitude 64 Pioneer

PDGA Approved: Nov. 23, 2018

Latitude 64 Pioneer Fairway Driver

The Pioneer is a new fairway/control driver announced by Latitude 64. They give it flight ratings of 9, 3, 0, 4. These are the same flight ratings as the Firebird, one of Innova’s most popular overstable fairway drivers. Latitude says this disc will have a very flat top, making it a perfect choice for sidearm throws. This disc also compares closely to the Felon – Dynamic Disc’s overstable and flat fairway driver. We’re excited to see how it flies!

Dynamic Discs Guard

PDGA Approved on Nov. 4, 2018

The Guard was PDGA approved recently, but not a lot of other information has been announced about it yet. The dimensions of the Guard can help tell a story, though. It has very similar dimensions to the popular Judge. The Guard is just a touch smaller in diameter, a tiny bit taller, and has a slightly skinnier rim. This leads us to believe this will be a new putter, but that is all we know at this time!

Dynamic Discs Vandal

PDGA Approved on Nov. 4, 2018

The Vandal is another disc that has been approved by the PDGA, but not announced by Dynamic Discs. A look at the dimensions tells us at it is likely a new fairway driver around speed 8. This is due to the rim thickness being the same as the Witness and Thief. Again, not much is known at this time, but we’re excited to get this in our hands!

On a more controversial side note: The Vandal is the name of a prototype Legacy Discs mid-range mold. In 2018 some samples of the Legacy Discs Vandal had been floating around, but the disc was never PDGA approved. Unfortunately, to be PDGA approved, two discs can not have the same name, so Dynamic Discs might have beat Legacy to the punch.

TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – DECEMBER 4TH 2018

Infinite Discs is happy to present the weekly blog post called TOP TWENTY TUESDAY where we let you know about the short-term sales trends for discs. We’ll show the sales figures from the previous Tuesday through the most recent Monday.

New discs will often spike in the chart as other top sellers shuffle spots. It can be fun to see which discs keep up the pace. These will also be broken down by plastic types, so the same model can show up in multiple plastics.

THIS REPORT INCLUDES THE SALES FROM BLACK FRIDAY SALES – TWO WEEKS OF DISC SALES.  Here we go…
The chart covering the last two weeks of sales at Infinite Discs is HIGHLY influenced by Black Friday deals that carried through an entire week of sales and special disc releases. The Star Destroyer held the number one spot with several special edition stamps on black Destroyers released on Black Friday. The 2nd place spot goes to the Metal Flake Glow C-Blend Pharaoh which really got a lot of love with the cool combination of colored glow and metal flake in the plastic blend, plus the XXL stamp designed by Thought Space Athletics. In a strong 3rd place showing was the limited run of BT Hard Burst Moonshine (glow) MAIDEN putters– a run that was made especially for Infinite Discs. The original Origio Burst Maiden also had a great showing at #7, showing that this latest putter from Westside disc has been a big attention-grabber since it was featured in the 2018 Trilogy Challenge tournaments.

Also with big showings due to special editions, the C-Line Luster FD and Glow C-Line P2 discs from Discmania were a big hit, as were the special run of Swirly ESP Flash discs– an older Discraft mold that many players have been missing since it was discontinued. The Stego by Reptilian Disc Gold and the full-color Twin Swords by Yikun made strong showings for smaller brands. Infinite Discs also saw the new release of the C-Blend RA with the XXL stamp his #8 and the Vision C-Blend (full color) SLAB hit the number #11 spot with its dramatic stamp image which was placed to leave a grip edge around the outside top of the flight plate.

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The first three people to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $15 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER! – We didn’t get a lot of guesses for this week’s #2 position, but we do have a winner. Garrett Colwell declared “Metal flake pharaoh all the way up!” and that is close enough to “Metal Flake Glow C-Blend Pharaoh” that we’re handing him the win. Congratulations Garrett!

GIFT CARD PREDICTION FOR NEXT WEEK:  Leave your comment below this blog to predict the #5 spot for next week’s “Top Twenty Tuesday” chart.  Have fun!

The Discmania MD5 MidRange Disc

To wrap up the 2018 year, Discmania released the MD5 mid-range. While it has become common for mid-range discs to have a wider diameter than longer drivers, the trend in 2018 was to release smaller diameter mid-range discs, particularly more overstable discs. The MD5 is one of those smaller diameter, overstable mid-range discs, and it is a very precise one.

Released with a “First Run” stamp as well as with a stock stamp, the MD5 joined the ranks of similar discs released during the 2018 year– perhaps most closely related to the Innova Caiman. It has a profile quite similar to a Caiman, but in flight it does not get quite as much distance.  Rather than a smooth, drawn-out fade, the MD5 has the tendency to drop its edge and fade steeply out of the sky once velocity is lost. That provides a dramatic and precise overstable fade for great accuracy when thrown by experienced players.

It is not a disc that would be friendly to beginners, but is designed for experienced players who are looking for an easily controlled, short-range, overstable mid. Where discs like the Dynamic Discs Justice used to stand out in this category, Discmania has added to their lineup with this strong contender in the MD5.

  • Speed: 5.0
  • Glide: 3.0
  • Turn: 0.0
  • Fade: 4.0

Other End-of-Year Plastic Releases by Discmania

Also to end the 2018 year, Discmania released a couple of runs of their most popular discs in fun, premium plastics. While this is not the first time these discs have been run in these plastics, they are getting a lot of love from Discmania fans. The available of these discs in these plastics is sporadic, so it is good to grab them while they are available. It is hard to know when the next run will come.

C-Line Luster FD – Straight Fairway Driver in durable, creamy translucent plastic

Glow C-Line P2 – Extremely popular putter in durable, glow plastic

Best Disc Golf Midrange Discs

This post was written in 2018. For a more updated post on the best midrange discs, be sure to read our 2020 article.

It’s time to keep naming the absolute best disc golf discs in the world! At least, the best in our opinion! Today we will be naming our nominees for the best disc golf midrange discs on the market today.

Before I list the nominees for The Infinite Discs Best Disc Golf Disc: Midrange Disc, lets break down what we are looking for when selecting these discs. Like with all of the discs in these posts, we are using two keywords for choosing our nominees: popularity and utility. We will choose popular midrange discs that can be utilized by disc golfers of all skill levels.

First, lets take a look at which midrange discs have been the best sellers so far in 2018.

Top sellers of 2018:

  1. Discraft Buzzz
  2. Innova Roc3
  3. Innova Mako3
  4. Innova Roc
  5. Dynamic Discs Emac Truth
  6. Discmania MD3
  7. Hyzerbomb Mortar
  8. Innova Gator
  9. Discraft Comet
  10. Innova Rat

It doesn’t look like there are too many surprises in the sales chart. The Innova Rat was released at the start of 2018, and it looks like it has been able to maintain positive sales numbers throughout the year. It will be interesting to see how this disc performs over the next few years as well.

Now, here are our nominees!

Discraft Buzzz

Far and away the most popular disc in the Discraft lineup, the Buzzz is a staple of the disc golf world. It has been part of the game since 2003. For many years disc golfers had two main choices for midranges, either the Buzzz or the Innova Roc. As the sales numbers show, both of these discs have proven to stand the test of time. The Buzzz offers a smooth, beadless profile that fits comfortably in the hand for all sizes and grips. It offers a very stable flight that can be used by disc golfers at all skill levels.

Discraft Comet

Another disc to show that age doesn’t matter, the Discraft Comet has been a part of the game for over 20 years. The Comet‘s mold is unique with a significant bead and more significant dome that offers a very understable flight with lots of glide. The Comet is great for beginners looking to get some distance out of their midrange, and perfect for more experienced throwers trying to navigate tight fairways.

Dynamic Discs Emac Truth

The Emac Truth is DD’s third effort at crafting a midrange with a “true” straight flight pattern after the disc now named the Verdict was too overstable and the original Truth was just a bit too understable. But the Emac Truth was worth the wait, as it is an excellent midrange disc for all skill levels. It offers a flight that is right in between a Buzzz and a Roc in stability. Faster armspeeds shouldn’t have to worry about turning it over, and newer players who find the Roc fades out more than they’d like, the Emac Truth should be just the right fix.

Innova Gator

The Innova Gator is one of the original “utility” midrange discs. The Gator is designed to fight stiff winds and dive around tight corners on the course. It is a great approach disc for more experienced throwers who can master its very overstable flight. The Gator is not a beginners disc by any means, but it has its purpose on the course.

Dynamic Discs Justice

The Dynamic Discs Justice brought an entirely new meaning to the term, “overstable” when it was released in 2015. Take everything I just said about the Gator and multiply it 2 or 3 times. The Justice is a true “Meathook” designed to hold up to any kind of wind out on the course. Try to turn it over, I dare you. Again, not for beginners, but still a great disc that fulfills a great purpose for those who have learned how to throw it.

Prodigy M4

The Prodigy M4 is a midrange that hasn’t gotten a lot of hype recently in the disc golf world, but that doesn’t mean it should be forgotten. The M4 is a straight flyer that is just a bit more understable than the Buzzz. Of all our nominees, it is one of the most beginner friendly midrange discs. It has a beadless rim design and is offered in a variety of Prodigy’s premium plastic blends.

Innova Mako3

The Innova Mako3 is another very beginner friendly midrange disc. More experienced throwers like to use the Mako3 for longer hyzer-flip shots and is great when you need a midrange to hold straight throughout the flight with very minimal fade.

Discmania MD3

The Discmania MD3 has grown in popularity as Discmania team members like Eagle McMahon have been throwing it all over the course. Probably the most comparable disc to the MD3 from this nominee list would be the Emac Truth. they both hit that sweet spot in stability that is right in between a Buzzz and a Roc.

Hyzerbomb Mortar

The Hyzerbomb Mortar is another utility midrange. It is very overstable, but not quite as much as the Gator. This is because of the only real difference between the two molds, which is that the Mortar is beadless. This makes the Mortar very popular for disc golfers who prefer to forehand their approach shots in the wind, as the beadless design allows for an easier and more consistent forehand grip and release.

Innova Roc

One of the original midranges in the game, the Roc has been flying around disc golf courses for now over 30 years. The Roc is a domey disc that has a comfortable beaded rim. This beaded rim makes the disc a bit more overstable than several of the other midranges on this list, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t beginner friendly. This disc flies straight for a long time and then has a reliable strong fade at the end.

Innova Roc3

Normally we wouldn’t give discs like the Roc and Roc3 their own individual nominations, but the Roc3 has shown that it has its own following that is seperate from its predecessor. They Both have very similar beaded rims, but the Roc3 is a bit flatter, and it is rated to be just a bit faster than the Roc, which allows for a little more distance in the air. Both discs have proven to be staples of the midrange category.

And the 2018 choice for best Midrange Disc Golf Disc is…..

Best Midrange of 2018: Discraft Buzzz

If you have been following these posts, you should know by know that we aren’t picking upsets. The Buzzz is the old standard for midrange discs. It is a pure, straight flyer that disc golfers of every skill level love to use. The old debate of Roc v. Buzzz will never die, but we had to choose the Buzzz because of its friendlier stability for newer players and the comfortable beadless rim that allows for the occasional forehand throw. The Discraft Buzzz is our choice for the best midrange on the market today.
