HERE ARE THE AD PICTURES!

The Mach Shift 3-in-1 Portable Practice Basket from DGA

DGA has always been a solid manufacturer in the portable basket market. Here at Infinite Discs, we have seen steady sales when it comes to the excellent, high-quality DGA Mach Lite collapsible basket which is very easy to set up, take down, and carry around when on the go. So it isn’t a surprise to see DGA push the envelope in their design and creativity for their newest portable basket, the MACH SHIFT.

THREE QUALITY BASKETS IN ONE

The Mach Shift portable basket has three different catching positions:

  1. Standard Shift Position: This is the standard basket configuration with two rows of chains.
  2. Advanced Shift Position: All chains hang from the center 12-inch inner chain holder and the outer chain holder is removed, making a narrow practice basket.
  3. Pro Shift Position: For added challenge, the outer chain holder is removed and the chain assembly lowers using the telescoping pole, locking into the new , smaller position.

These three settings allow the player to use the basket in multiple ways, from standard play, or as a narrow putting practice basket (similar to the MVP Black Hole Precision, or the Dynamic Discs Marksman), or even as a “macro” basket for play with throwable mini discs like the Junior Judge or the Mini Buzzz. But you don’t need to buy multiple baskets for those different purposes– only one!

The Mach Shift also comes with high-quality, gunmetal grey, powder coated base, lower pole section, trapper basket, and outer chain assembly. The upper, retracting pole is weather resistant, silver zinc coated and the top inner chain holder band has a durable, powder coated finish in either blue or white. So it both looks good and is durable for long life, all for a price tag well under $200!

The Mach Shift will begin shipping in December of 2107, just in time for holiday gift-giving. It can be pre-ordered in advance to make sure that it arrives as soon as possible.

Infinite Discs – Growing a Disc Golf Business

The Roots of Infinite Discs

Infinite Discs is a very small company compared to most businesses the world, in the country, or even in your average community. But it has come a long way since it began in 2012 as an online information source for the growing disc golf community. Two friends who loved to disc golf together joined forces to create Infinite Discs as a hobby, writing blogs and sharing reviews of new discs. But some hobbies can become a passion, and that passion can drive it toward becoming a business.

It wasn’t long before Infinite Discs began listing a handful of discs on its blog website for sale. Though small in scale, the response was positive. Readers loved the idea that they could see universal flight ratings and reviews from average disc golfers.  Sales grew, but the owners realized the lack of potential that the blog platform offered.

After a year of intense website development, Infinite Discs launched the 2.0 website in 2014 and doubled-down on disc listings. New coding on the website allowed Infinite Discs to take a quantum leap in the company’s ability to add, store, and locate each individual disc in a vastly growing inventory. As word spread that discs could be purchased after seeing the exact disc displayed, Infinite Discs sales continued to grow.

At the time, most disc sellers still listed only models and weight ranges. Buyers using those sites would receive a disc that could be any color, with any stamp variation, and often with a weight that was far from what they’d expected or wanted. Thus the online disc selling business had not yet proven itself to be reliable.

Building The Infrastructure

Once the new website started to take its form and prove itself as a reliable venue for selling discs, the focus turned more intensely on the building of an infrastructure that could sustain growth. One of the original partners chose to leave the venture in favor of other career opportunities, but the other owner hung on to push through the struggle of growing a disc golf business that could eventually provide a living. While help was brought into the store in the form of a couple of employees to handle increasing shipments of inventory and outgoing orders, it still wasn’t a job that anybody could claim as an full-blown career.

For those who visited the physical headquarters of Infinite Discs through the latter end of 2017, it was often eye-opening, not to mention somewhat humorous, to discover that the business was based in a building full of small offices. Infinite Discs had started in a couple of those offices, but slowly expanded to take over more rooms until the warehouse and local shop swallowed six of the one-room offices, connected by a couple hallways and a flight of miserable stairs (try carrying heavy boxes of discs up stairs every day). As long as there were shelves and empty corners available, the disc inventory kept growing.

More part-time help was brought in and a couple of employees were able to reach full-time status as sales increased. This also allowed ownership to focus less on managing the day-to-day rigors of order fulfillment and more on the longer-term vision of Infinite Discs. By late 2015 and early 2016, eyes turned toward a future home for the business. Local warehouses that were on the market at the time seemed either too small, or too large, or too worn-down, so it was decided that Infinite Discs would purchase a parcel of land and begin plans for building its own warehouse.

Expanding the Vision

As part of the company’s efforts to provide the disc golf market with even more information and services, Infinite Discs began expanding its website to include user logins that would allow individuals to not only interact with the retail site through reviews, but also keep track of their game play. Profiles could be created to track scores, keep personal statistics, and even create PDGA-like ratings based on performance. A free Infinite Disc Golf app was designed to interact with the website so that players could use their mobile device on the course as a scorecard to add more information to their online player profiles.

As part of that expansion, a new branch of the website was created called Infinite Courses which (along with the app) can be used to upload disc golf course listings. Once uploaded, those courses can obtain their own ratings based on scores uploaded by Infinite Discs profile players. With more courses added to the site and more players using the resource, the ratings system will become more robust and provide a better source of information about the courses, covering everything from aesthetics to difficulty.

In addition to the online store, player profiles, course database, and app, Infinite Discs also designed an interactive website for would-be tournament directors. By using the website interface, users can set up tournament events in their local areas and have all of the registration, players packs, and payouts handled automatically through Infinite Discs. Players packs can be offered and prizes awarded in the form of credit to the Infinite Discs store. Thus players can chose from many thousands of discs, accessories, and apparel as part of their tournament experience.

In addition to these services, Infinite Discs also began a VIP Club for disc collectors and players who love to receive a monthly shipment with a unique, custom-stamped, collectible disc to try. The club grew to 400 members by early 2017 and looked to expand in the future because of demand.

Where Is Infinite Discs Headed?

As the 2017 holiday season approaches, Infinite Discs is preparing for future growth. With a small group of eight full-time employees and a new warehouse awaiting completion, the company is establishing a solid footing in the disc golf market. The online inventory has grown to well over 30,000 discs (not including the physical shop and traveling inventory), and that number will increase with the new warehouse space. There are more exciting plans for the near future, including some big ideas that will take a while to fully develop, but the company hopes to continue growing and building a positive relationship with players all over the world. Keep your eyes on Infinite Discs!

Halloween 2017 Special Edition Stamps

Whenever October arrives, we find a bunch of new stamps that have a more seasonal, Halloween flare. Let’s take a look at some of the discs that have hit the shelves at Infinite Discs for the 2017 Halloween season:

FROM INFINITE DISCS

Infinite Discs likes to present some unique, fun stamps during October, and here are some that we’ve put together this year. First of all, there is the PLAGUE DOCTOR stamp, presented on popular disc models from both Innova and Trilogy (Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, and Westside).

Infinite Discs also made a limited number of Spooky Sabertooth stamped discs only on Discmania models.

And of course, Halloween isn’t complete without something cool from MVP / Axiom / Streamline. This year Infinite Discs made a special run of 3-color Creepy Clown stamped discs on many of the most popular disc models. They are coming very soon.

Also for the fans of the popular Gateway putters, Infinite Discs also put together a super-spooky skull stamp on Wizards, Warlocks, Magic, and Voodoos.

FROM INNOVA

Innova made use of their XXL stamping setup to release some really good-looking pumpkin discs in 2017 including the DX Glow Aviar and the Star RocX3. They also released a really cool bunch of Champion Dyed Beast drivers with stenciled Halloween shapes, like skulls, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and cats. The Beasts have already become hard to find.

FROM AXIOM

Axiom has created some anticipation each year for their special Halloween disc, and this year they’ve introduced a great-looking 3-colored Owl stamp that will be a big hit for the collectors, on Plasma Envy discs.

FROM LEGACY

Legacy likes to keep up a tradition of special Halloween stamps, and this year they’ve got a couple, including the Icon Ghost, the Icon Cannon, and the Icon Aftermath. Plus they’ve got Protege Ghosts with a wreath of ghosts stamped on the discs.

FROM DISCRAFT

Discraft released the “Buzzzeyman” for Halloween 2017. You can the limited edition stamp on a Z Glo Buzzz, as well on a Z Glow Supercolor Mini Buzzz.

FROM DISCMANIA

Discmania presented a special stamp this season on their most popular putter. This cool spider stamp is found on a limited edition Glow D-Line P2.

FROM PRODIGY DISCS

Prodigy presents a nice Halloween stamp on their PA-3 putters this year. You can get the stamp on either 400S plastic, or on Prodigy Glow plastic for your night rounds:

FROM MINT DISCS

Let’s finish with a look at the Halloween Alpha from Mint Discs that is hitting the Infinite Discs store very soon:

Stamp Wars 2018 – Submit Your Design

***Post Update, December 4, 2017. Voting is now live! To vote for the submitted stamps go to the “Stamp Wars Blog” InfiniteDiscs.com/StampWars

Vote Now

In 2017, Infinite Discs featured a duel between two stamps to see which would win in popularity and sales. The Aztec went up against the Tommy Cat and won. We then featured the Aztec stamp on many discs from several different manufacturers. Now it’s time to move on to the next battle…

STAMP WARS 2018

Infinite Discs is going to manage the battle differently this time. We’re inviting everybody with art skills who would like to submit a design to enter the fray. If you’ve got what it takes to make a stamp design that will both appeal to the disc golf public AND fit within the standard specs for disc stamping (see here and here as examples of those specs), then you’re welcome to enter!

We’re looking for one-color stamp designs, so all artwork should be submitted in black, just to keep it simple. For example, the stamp designs should look something like this:

Basically, you’ll want to make sure that there are not too many thick areas– solid black areas can trap bubbles beneath the foil and flake off. Plus you don’t want lines that are too thin– they too can flake off. You’ll want a relatively even balance of black space and empty space. Take a look at other stamps that you like and see how they have stayed within those specs.

TO SUBMIT A DESIGN…

We have a simple Google Form that you can read and submit when you have a design ready. You can submit up to three different designs, if you feel so inspired. But you’ll have to submit the form with each work of art.

The form is basically a way to declare that you are willingly submitting your original artwork (NOT somebody else’s) to be used in the Infinite Discs Stamp Wars contest. By submitting, you’ll be giving us permission to display your artwork for voting and for advertising the contest. You’ll also be allowing us to use that stamp on discs if you make it to the final four, or win the first place. The prizes for those winners will be the only compensation offered.

WHAT CAN YOU WIN?

Aside from the glory and bragging rights that come with victory, Infinite Discs will award a $100 gift card to each of the four finalists. Plus, the ultimate first place winner will receive an additional $250 gift card. Those gift cards can be used toward any products on the Infinite Discs website. Plus, you’ll be able to see your design flying through the skies on hundreds of discs!

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?

All artwork submissions must be turned in by the end of November 2017. Then we’ll be able to launch the online voting in December so that the disc golf public and see all of the submitted stamp designs and pick their favorites. That gives you from now through November to polish and submit your designs.

HOW ARE WINNERS CHOSEN?

The initial voting will be online and the general public will basically cast their votes for their favorite stamps. The voting will be tallied at the very end of 2017 and we’ll announce the four finalists who have received the most votes in January, as a kick-off to the 2018 year. Those “final four” designs will ALL be stamped on an equal number of discs in an equal ratio of disc models. Once the discs are in stock, the final round will begin. The stamp that sells the most will decide the first place winner.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER RULES?

Well…yes. There are a couple of other rules. If a piece of artwork is submitted that simply won’t work as a stamp because the specs are ignored, then it will be disqualified. What is the point of having a design reach the finals that can’t physically be stamped on a disc?

Also, Infinite Discs has the right to reject any artwork which is considered tasteless or pornographic. Usually manufacturers won’t stamp those kinds of images on discs anyway, because they don’t want their brand associated with highly controversial images. We’re the same way. We don’t want Infinite Discs to openly represent nudity, hate speech, violence, or foul language.

Also, you may not submit artwork that would break copyright laws. You may not submit artwork based on existing, copyrighted images or characters. For example, no existing superheros, movies characters, trademarks, etc. We must reject any artwork which might infringe on the intellectual property rights of another company.

If you have any specific questions you may email todd@infinitediscs.com but please be sure to research everything you can first, because we don’t want to spend a lot of time explaining things that are already outlined here and on the Google submission form.

LET THE STAMP WARS BEGIN!

The Joy of the Mystery Disc

There is a growing niche within the disc golf market that loves a pleasant surprise. This has become apparent with mystery boxes and mystery disc programs popping up from different retailers. Infinite Discs has been a leader in the mystery disc market and have now added a new program, alongside their longer-running programs that have grown over the last few years, like the Deals Box and the VIP Club

The Mystery Disc – Anytime You Want It!

Other disc sellers have joined the trend in selling mystery disc packages. One popular subscription program features a mystery disc plus mystery disc golf swag for $24.99 per month and has been received with open arms by hundreds of disc golf lovers who simply want to try something new without having to think about it. These usually aren’t custom stamped discs, yet still provide the element of surprise to the subscriber. The arrival of a monthly package in the mail is usually cause for excitement.

INFINITE DISCS is happy to introduce a way that customers can get a mystery disc anytime they want! This new program removes the subscription approach and is designed for those who simply want to try a new disc that is a complete surprise to them, but at an affordable price. Infinite Discs now has a Mystery Disc listed on the website, for those who want to buy one, or two, or more as part of their shopping trip. These are not necessarily custom stamped, or limited editions (though some mystery discs may have tournament or special stamps), but they are guaranteed to be premium plastic and high quality discs. Each Mystery Disc is only $12.

But here is an even easier way to get a mystery disc: If you just happen to be shopping the Infinite Discs website, you’ll also see an option during checkout that allows you to add a mystery disc to your package for only $12 extra, on top of your existing order. Plus, you can select to add mystery disc golf swag for another $8 in order to receive any item or combination of accessory items that amount to a value higher than $8. If you click to add one of each, then you’ll be paying only $20 for a mystery disc and mystery swag, and the best part is that you can do it whenever you want. If you don’t necessarily need a monthly surprise, then simply click to add a little mystery to your package every once in a while, when you’re in the mood. Don’t want to spend too much when you can’t afford to? Just be impulsive when you happen to have the extra money and you want a little surprise.

If you only want the mystery swag, which could include anything from a t-shirt in your specified size, a sportsack, towel, keychains, hats, etc. then you can just add it to your cart and check out.

Infinite Discs is always looking for ways to give our customers what they want at an affordable price, and in ways that are convenient to them.

Looking for Deals?

Infinite Discs has had the Deals Box as a product on our website for more than two years now, and it has steadily risen in demand. The boxes sell out quickly whenever a few more are added to inventory. At a price of $67.88, it’s a great deal considering that at least 6 of the 7 discs are guaranteed to be premium plastic blends (the putter can be a softer blend), with a mix of a putter, mid-ranges, plus both overstable and understable drivers. That’s less than $10 per disc. However, there is an element of surprise– either celebratory or disappointment when the box is opened, because the discs are a complete mystery to the buyer!

Some shoppers love the idea of trying out a bunch of randomly selected discs, even if a few are misprints or tournaments stamps, so they don’t really care what is inside the box. Other players are more selective in what they throw, so they run the risk of opening the box and finding discs that they don’t necessarily prefer or need. That’s the risk of a mystery box. But something keeps prompting shoppers to put these Deals Boxes in their cart. This product has remained the best-selling, non-specific disc product on the Infinite Discs website, and has sold far more than any other package set or disc golf starter set that we stock.

The VIP Club

In the spring of 2016, Infinite Discs launched its VIP Club, which is a subscription program that sends a unique, collectible, and completely unannounced disc to subscribers every month. Every month a shiny envelope arrives in the mail that contains a mystery disc. There are only enough discs made for the existing club members, making them instantly collectible and rare because the stamp design, and sometimes even the plastic blend, is unique for the club. Additional small items are usually thrown in the package with the disc, just for fun, like towels, minis, stickers, and other accessories. The opening of the shiny package each month is cause for great anticipation among VIP Club members who rush to post photos online and show-off their special editions. The support for the club has been wonderful, giving collectors and mystery disc lovers a monthly fix and something new to try from different disc makers.

However, the VIP Club isn’t for everybody. Some people really don’t want to spend $19.99 every month for the thrill of a mystery disc that may or may not be something they need. Yet still, there are club members who are very brand-specific in their tastes, but who subscribe because they know that their disc will most likely have a higher resale value than what they paid, when sold to somebody in the right collector market. Some subscribers are signed up for two each month, just because they want one to hang on the wall, and one to throw. Plus, VIP Club members have access to the VIP Club Store which features other uniquely stamped discs from time to time.

All of these programs and products are designed for those players and disc collectors who love the thrill of the unexpected.
