Most Popular Large Disc Golf Bags

In this blog series we are looking at some of the most popular items in various categories, and we continue with a look at Large Disc Golf bags. These are bags that hold more than the typical starter bag, but not quite as much as a backpack bag. This size bag is kind of a ‘tweener, being small enough that a beginner could use it, and big enough that an experienced golfer might still use these bags for tournament play. Whatever the reason for buying them, we have picked the five most popular Large Bags for 2019.

Top 5 Most Popular Large Disc Golf Bags of 2019

  1. Prodigy Practice Bag
  2. Infinite Discs Large Bag
  3. Infinite Discs Large Bag w/Straps
  4. Soldier Bag
  5. Soldier Cooler Bag

Prodigy Practice Bag V2

Let’s start with the most popular bag in this category, the Prodigy Practice bag. I don’t know if Prodigy meant to tap into the disc storage market, but I know a lot of people who bought a few of this bag just to store their discs. It is the perfect size for taking a bunch of discs to a field for practice. And for keeping a bunch of discs organized, whether it’s at your house or in your car. At that price point, it’s easy to pick up a couple and stash your extra discs. Or use one for field work. It holds between 30-45 discs. The Practice Bag is now only available in V2 model and sells for $24.99.

Infinite Large Bag

Infinite Large Bag w/Straps

The next most popular bag actually takes second and third spot. It is the Infinite Discs Large bag. In second place with straps, and in third place without straps (with a shoulder strap). This bag holds 18-22 discs and can be carried over the shoulder with the single strap, and carried like a backpack with the optional backpack straps. It can hold a couple drinks, a mini, accessories, etc. The bag retails for $22.99 without backpack straps and $27.99 with straps.

DD Soldier Bag

DD Soldier Cooler Bag

Wrapping up the last two spots is the Dynamic Discs Soldier Bag. In fourth place is the regular Soldier bag, in fifth place is the Soldier Bag with the optional cooler insert. The cooler insert is as the name implies, a cooler for keeping drinks cold during a round. It reduces the number of discs you can carry, but that is a good trade off for a lot of people. If a cooler isn’t needed, it can be removed, making space for more discs or apparel. The Soldier Bag holds 18+ discs in the main compartment and two putters in the putter pouch. With the cooler, you can still fit 10-12 discs in the bag. The Soldier Cooler Bag sells for $63.99 and the Soldier Bag sells for $49.95.

Top 5 Inexpensive Portable Disc Golf Baskets of 2019

In this blog I will discuss the top 5 most popular, inexpensive portable disc golf baskets for 2019. I hear a lot of people talk about the expense of getting a basket as though they are about to make a major purchase. While it is certainly possible to spend many hundreds of dollars on a new basket, it is also possible to get a quality practice basket relatively inexpensively. One of the best ways to improve in this sport is to practice putting regularly, and the best way to do that is to have a basket (or two) on hand for daily practice. So, lets jump in and look at the top five most popular baskets for 2019.

Top 5 Best Portable Disc Golf Baskets for 2019

Thinking about improving your game? Check out these top-selling portable baskets:

  1. DGA Mach Lite
  2. MVP Black Hole Pro
  3. MVP Black Hole Practice
  4. Axiom Pro
  5. Dynamic Discs Recruit

DGA Mach Lite Disc Golf Basket

The best-selling basket for 2019, and one of my personal favorites, is the DGA Mach Lite. This is a well-designed, inexpensive practice basket that is easy to set up and take down. It’s tough to beat the Mach Lite for portability and cost. No tools are necessary for set up. And the chains are  grabby for a portable. It also comes with a bag to carry the folded basket. I’ve had mine for about 5 years and it is still in good shape. The Mach Lite is a great basket if you will be transporting it from time to time.

MVP Black Hole Pro Disc Golf Basket

The next most popular portable disc golf basket is the MVP Black Hole Pro. The Black Hole Pro is a basket that is easy to set up and take down without tools. It has two rows of 12 chains to catch and hold your disc. The Black Hole Pro is a great example of getting a well-made basket at a reasonable price. The Pro is nearly the same quality level as a course basket. It is great if you want a good, grabby basket to practice with, and also want a great basket to use for temp holes during leagues or tournaments.

Black Hole Practice Disc Golf Basket

The third best selling basket is the little brother to the Black Hole Pro, and that is the Black Hole Practice basket. This basket is has lighter chains and no upper band compared to the Black Hole Pro. The Practice is lighter and easier to move around, and for a practice basket it is still grabs discs quite well. The Black Hole Practice is good for using at home, and occasionally using it as a temp basket.

Axiom Pro Disc Golf Basket

The Axiom Pro basket is a great choice, offering quality and portability at a good price. It is powder coated and comes in bright colors. The Axiom Pro easily sets up and breaks down without tools. The heavy duty chains provide good disc-grabbing power. The Axiom has 24 chains, and is another basket to consider if you want to practice at home, but still use as a quality temp basket for leagues or tournaments.

Dynamic Discs Recruit Portable Basket

Rounding out the top five portable baskets is the Dynamic Discs Recruit. This beefy basket is slightly larger than most practice baskets. Its two rows of chains will stop a speeding disc in a hurry. To aid in moving the basket around, the base has a wheel attached. While the Recruit is priced higher than the rest of the top five, it is also the sturdiest and heaviest. It does need tools to take it apart to move, and it is heavier to lift once disassembled. However, it does come apart relatively easy. The quality of the Recruit is exceptional. To be that well-built and sturdy at that price point is impressive. I’ve spent many hours putting on a Recruit, and I love the basket. It’s a great basket if you want a top-of-the-line quality at a reasonable price and you won’t be breaking it down frequently. If you are looking for something that you can transport frequently, I would consider something a little smaller/lighter.

It certainly is a good time to be in the market for a portable disc golf basket. The quality of the available baskets at the low price points means you can get a basket to improve your game without spending a ton of money. Check out our selection of baskets today and get on your way to lowering your scores.

Best Economy Disc Golf Bags of 2019

Players are always looking for the best disc golf bags. As the disc golf season winds down for 2019, we thought it would be great to look back at the year and see what products and accessories were the most popular. That kind of information can come in handy for people looking for a gift for the disc golfer in their life. Or for someone considering making a purchase for themselves.

We are going to start with a very popular genre of disc golf bags, the Economy Disc Golf Bags. These are entry level bags that are good not only for people just starting out in the sport, but great for die-hard golfers who want to play a quick round, or who want to improve their game by throwing a round using only a couple discs. These bags are relatively inexpensive, ranging in price from $19.99 to $79.99, hold a decent amount of discs, and usually have room for a drink and some snacks. Once most of us have been in the sport for a while, we carry enough discs that the economy bags are not an option for regular use. Especially with the necessity to carry food and water during long rounds and tournaments. But, even when you move to a bigger bag, as mentioned, opportunities still arise to use the smaller bags. Let’s take a look at the top sellers in this category, in order of popularity.

Top 5 Inexpensive Disc Golf Bags

If you’re looking for a great low price disc golf backpack, consider from our top selling list:

  1. Dynamic Discs Trooper Backpack
  2. Infinite Discs Slinger Bag
  3. Infinite Discs Stealth Bag
  4. Prodigy BP3 Disc Golf Backpack
  5. Innova Discover Backpack

Dynamic Discs Trooper Backpack

Leading the pack (pardon the pun) is the popular Dynamic Discs Trooper. At $39.99 the Trooper is not the least expensive in the category, but it holds more than the rest on the list. It can carry about 18 discs in the main compartment and 3-4 discs in the upper compartment. It has a water bottle holder, and a little bit of storage for snacks, etc. The construction of the bag is good, ensuring a long life on the disc golf course. The bag comes in several colors.

Infinite Discs Slinger Bag

The next most popular disc golf bag on the list is the Infinite Disc Slinger. This pack is perfect for the beginner or experienced disc golfers who want to to play a round with variety of discs, but not all of their throwers. It holds about 10 discs, and can handle larger discs like the Condor. The single-sling design can be adjust for either shoulder. It has a drink holder for your water bottle and a pocket for miscellaneous items. The Slinger is at the low end of the category price scale at $19.99.

Infinite Stealth Bag

Infinite Stealth Bag w/Bladder

The third most popular Economy Backpack Bag is the Infinite Stealth Bag. This popular bag is a kind of a niche bag. With only room for up to eight discs, the Stealth Bag is perfect for speed rounds, tough mountain courses, traveling light, or rounds using only a few discs. Though minimalist by design, the Stealth still has a water bottle holder and a pocket for snacks, phones, etc. The sleek bag even has a version with a two-liter water bladder to keep you hydrated as you play. The regular Stealth is the model that earned the third place spot, while the bladder version came in sixth place. The Stealth runs $29.99 for the regular bag, and $37.99 w/bladder. As of this posting, we are out of the Stealth and Stealth w/Bladder. We don’t anticipate getting more until 2020. Watch our weekly newsletter for updates.

Prodigy BP3 Economy Disc Golf Bag

Prodigy BP3

The Prodigy BP3 is next on the list. This bag holds up to 17 discs. It has two zippered pouches and a drink holder. It also has a deep putter pocket on the top of the bag. The BP3 has reinforced, padded straps for comfort. The bottom of the bag is made with a waterproof material, making it great for mornings when there is dew on the ground. This bag, like the Trooper, can be used as a backpack for school, vacations, hiking, etc. The BP-3 sells for $29.99.

Innova Discover Pack

The final economy disc golf backpack on our list is the Innova Discover bag. This bag holds up to 15 discs. It has an internal U-frame with a divider to keep the discs from flopping around when the bag is not full. It has a Velcro pocket on one side and a drink holder on the other. It also has a zippered putter pouch on top. Use the bag on the disc golf course, day hikes, or as a school bag.  The discover back ties the Slinger for the least expensive bag at $19.99.

The price point for this category of bags makes them attractive to beginners and veteran players looking for a smaller bag. They are great for someone just starting out, or for youth players who aren’t quite big enough for a larger bag. Check out our full line of economy bags here: Economy Disc Golf Backpack Bags

Night Disc Golf: Don’t Stop Playing Just Because the Sun Goes Down

Glow in the Dark Disc golf Discs

It’s getting to that wonderful time of year when we go to work when it’s just getting light, and often leave when it’s to dark for a traditional round of disc golf. While that can put a crimp on disc golf play, it doesn’t have to. Glow rounds are a fun way to continue playing disc golf in the evening, even when the sun sets early. At Infinite Discs we have the discs and accessories to make sure you have a fun night round, and still find your discs. Let’s check out some of the things that will make your night round a fun time in the dark.

The most important part of a night round is being able to find your disc after you throw it. The best way to do that is to make sure the disc is illuminated. There are several ways to achieve this goal.

Glow Plastic Discs

Most manufacturers offer numerous molds in glow plastic, including many of the Infinite brand molds. While some players throw these discs because of the added stability of glow plastic, they are excellent for disc golf night rounds. The advantage of using glow discs is that there is a good chance that your go-to disc comes in glow plastic, with a grip and flight you’re used to. After charging the glow plastic with a light source, the disc remains illuminated for a short time, giving you a chance to find the disc after you throw it.

A simple way to find all the glow discs for sale is to go to our advanced search, and under the “extras” category check the “glow in the dark” checkbox. If you need help doing this, this video will explain how our advanced search works.

Glow Tape Rings

Related to glow plastic are the UFO Glow Rings. In a package of Glow Rings you get a sheet of glow rings and circles that can be applied directly to your disc. The discs glow when exposed to a light source, just like glow plastic. These add no weight to your disc, so it will fly the same. Plus, you could put tape on the top and bottom, making it easy to spot your disc no matter how it comes to rest.

UV Flashlights

One of the best ways to both charge your disc and find it after the glow fades is with a UV Flashlight. These charge glow plastic significantly faster than a regular flashlight, without the blinding effect of bright light associated with a regular flashlight. Plus, if you do take a little longer than expected to find the disc after you throw it, you can use the UV Flashlight to help in the search. Simply shine the light around the area you think the disc is and when the UV light flashes across the disc, it will give it a little charge, making it easier to find. This come in especially handy if your disc lands in some bushes that are hard to peer into.

Disc Lights

A step up in the illumination department is to get actual lights for your disc. You have a few options when it comes to discs with lights. The first is to purchase battery powered tape on lights. These come in a variety of colors, even color changing, and can last several rounds. The advantage is that it will give you a good light source to find your disc.  By having players use different colors on their disc, it is easy to identify whose disc it is. The biggest advantage is that you can use your regular discs, so you know they all fly. There are a few downsides to the battery powered light. First, you need to tape it on to your disc, which means they might become detached from the disc after hitting something, making the disc hard to find. Taping the light on with clear packing tape in warmer temperatures makes the light stay on most of the time.

Another down side to the light is they are not waterproof. If you are playing a course where water may be a factor, make sure you completely cover the light with tape so water can’t reach it. One other potential downside is that if you are using a dark colored opaque disc and the disc lands light side down, you might not be able to see it. You could tape a light to the top and bottom to avoid that situation, if you don’t mind the weight. Visibility isn’t much of an issue with the more transparent discs. Infinite discs offers volume discounts on lights, so if you want to host a night round you can get the lights a little cheaper.

Nite Ize Discs

Another option for lighted discs is to purchase a disc with a built-in light. There are a few different discs for you to choose from. First, there is the NiteIze line of discs from Flashflight. They consist of three molds: a putter, a mid-range, and a driver. These discs are easily the brightest, most visible discs that you can buy. There is a single light source in the center of the disc, and fiber optic-like channels that carry the light all the way to the rim. And they look so cool in flight! The downside is that there are only those three discs, so if you don’t like the feel and flight, you don’t have a choice.

Viking Discs

One manufacturer added a line of discs that have a light built into the disc. Viking Discs offers their Fire Plastic line, which has an LED light on the bottom of the disc. The light is fairly bright. The nice thing about this option is that if you throw Viking discs, you could pick up a Fire Plastic version and be familiar with the flight. Viking has nice plastics, so even if you don’t throw them now, you could find some new discs to try. The light cover is removable to change the battery. Molds in Fire Plastic include the Rune, Nordic WarriorBarbarianRagnarokThor.

So, there you have all of the information you need to have a great time hucking in the dark. Grab some buddies for a fun round. Or maybe host a glow tournament. Discover the fun of playing at night!

Drew Gibson Joins Infinite Discs

Infinite Discs is proud and excited to announce our partnership with with touring pro Drew Gibson. Drew will be representing Infinite Discs for the 2020 season. Both Infinite and Drew are happy with the partnership. Drew will be throwing a mixed bag, including Infinite brand molds. He is looking forward to representing Infinite Discs.

“I think the (Infinite) brand is headed in the right direction, “ said Drew, “and I wanted to be a part of something that is growing.”

Get To Know Drew Gibson

Drew played in his first pro event late in 2012, and has been part of the touring scene ever since. He is well known for his ability to crush a drive over 600 feet, and do so with accuracy. He attributes his power to his fitness and form.

“I’d say my core strength and hips create most of the power. It’s just about being smooth,”said Drew, “and having a form that is duplicatable”.

That power and accuracy helped Drew cash at nearly every event he played this year. He feels that part of what gave him success this year was his progress on his mental game.

“I feel I’m on the final leg of becoming a well-rounded player, “ said Drew, “ not only physically, but mentally as well.”

Drew Gibson grew up in Sacramento, California playing baseball and racing dirt bikes. An injury in a preseason baseball game prevented him from throwing well and spelled the end of his baseball aspirations. So, he picked up disc golf to fill the competitive void. When he started playing disc golf he was surrounded by many of the big names in disc golf. He received encouragement from them and other locals, which pushed him to get better.

“There were a lot of players who had an influence on me over the years, “ said Drew. “Just to name a few would be Josh Anthon, Derek Billings, and Jim Oates.”

The Future

Drew said he was excited to represent Infinite for 2020. Not only for the freedom of disc selection, but with the opportunity to work with various manufacturers on special projects.

“I think the (Infinite) brand is headed in the right direction and I just wanted to be a part of something that is growing and see if we can’t work as a team to show the community what Infinite has to offer,” said Drew. “I think the goals for this year are large, and I think we can obtain them.”

When it comes to the near future, Drew has some simple, yet ambitious goals for the upcoming season.

“I just want to put myself in a position to win as many times as possible. I feel the more chances I have to close out an event the easier they’ll come”, he said. “I’d love to just have a strong season in 2020 and prove I can be consistent and battle for the big wins week in and week out.”

In addition to being optimistic about his future, he believes the sport will continue the growth it has been experiencing lately. He points toward Paul Mcbeth’s contract last year as evidence of a bright future for the sport.

“I think in 5 years the sport will grow tremendously. The stuff Mcbeth has done with promotion and such is just a peek into the potential I believe the sport has to offer.”

As for his longer-term outlook, Drew said, “ I’d just love to be in the mix in 5 years with Infinite on my back playing at the highest level still. I don’t think the sport or myself have cracked the potential of where it will be in 5 years.”

I want to do more than just be great at disc golf. I want to help accomplish a greater cause including increasing awareness of mental health.

Pro Tip

Asked for any advice Drew could give up-and-coming disc golfers, Drew said, “Smooth is far. The harder you try the more difficult it’ll be! Be smooth and find your groove. Don’t try to copy someone else’s throw, just work on your form and if you put in the time it’ll come.”

Drew has shown he has the talent, ambition, and knowledge to succeed in the challenging world of professional disc golf. All of us at Infinite Discs would like to welcome him to the family, and wish him all the best as he builds on last year’s successes heading into the 2020 season, and beyond!
