Top 5 Inexpensive Portable Disc Golf Baskets of 2019

In this blog I will discuss the top 5 most popular, inexpensive portable disc golf baskets for 2019. I hear a lot of people talk about the expense of getting a basket as though they are about to make a major purchase. While it is certainly possible to spend many hundreds of dollars on a new basket, it is also possible to get a quality practice basket relatively inexpensively. One of the best ways to improve in this sport is to practice putting regularly, and the best way to do that is to have a basket (or two) on hand for daily practice. So, lets jump in and look at the top five most popular baskets for 2019.

Top 5 Best Portable Disc Golf Baskets for 2019

Thinking about improving your game? Check out these top-selling portable baskets:

  1. DGA Mach Lite
  2. MVP Black Hole Pro
  3. MVP Black Hole Practice
  4. Axiom Pro
  5. Dynamic Discs Recruit

DGA Mach Lite Disc Golf Basket

The best-selling basket for 2019, and one of my personal favorites, is the DGA Mach Lite. This is a well-designed, inexpensive practice basket that is easy to set up and take down. It’s tough to beat the Mach Lite for portability and cost. No tools are necessary for set up. And the chains are  grabby for a portable. It also comes with a bag to carry the folded basket. I’ve had mine for about 5 years and it is still in good shape. The Mach Lite is a great basket if you will be transporting it from time to time.

MVP Black Hole Pro Disc Golf Basket

The next most popular portable disc golf basket is the MVP Black Hole Pro. The Black Hole Pro is a basket that is easy to set up and take down without tools. It has two rows of 12 chains to catch and hold your disc. The Black Hole Pro is a great example of getting a well-made basket at a reasonable price. The Pro is nearly the same quality level as a course basket. It is great if you want a good, grabby basket to practice with, and also want a great basket to use for temp holes during leagues or tournaments.

Black Hole Practice Disc Golf Basket

The third best selling basket is the little brother to the Black Hole Pro, and that is the Black Hole Practice basket. This basket is has lighter chains and no upper band compared to the Black Hole Pro. The Practice is lighter and easier to move around, and for a practice basket it is still grabs discs quite well. The Black Hole Practice is good for using at home, and occasionally using it as a temp basket.

Axiom Pro Disc Golf Basket

The Axiom Pro basket is a great choice, offering quality and portability at a good price. It is powder coated and comes in bright colors. The Axiom Pro easily sets up and breaks down without tools. The heavy duty chains provide good disc-grabbing power. The Axiom has 24 chains, and is another basket to consider if you want to practice at home, but still use as a quality temp basket for leagues or tournaments.

Dynamic Discs Recruit Portable Basket

Rounding out the top five portable baskets is the Dynamic Discs Recruit. This beefy basket is slightly larger than most practice baskets. Its two rows of chains will stop a speeding disc in a hurry. To aid in moving the basket around, the base has a wheel attached. While the Recruit is priced higher than the rest of the top five, it is also the sturdiest and heaviest. It does need tools to take it apart to move, and it is heavier to lift once disassembled. However, it does come apart relatively easy. The quality of the Recruit is exceptional. To be that well-built and sturdy at that price point is impressive. I’ve spent many hours putting on a Recruit, and I love the basket. It’s a great basket if you want a top-of-the-line quality at a reasonable price and you won’t be breaking it down frequently. If you are looking for something that you can transport frequently, I would consider something a little smaller/lighter.

It certainly is a good time to be in the market for a portable disc golf basket. The quality of the available baskets at the low price points means you can get a basket to improve your game without spending a ton of money. Check out our selection of baskets today and get on your way to lowering your scores.

Best Economy Disc Golf Bags of 2019

Players are always looking for the best disc golf bags. As the disc golf season winds down for 2019, we thought it would be great to look back at the year and see what products and accessories were the most popular. That kind of information can come in handy for people looking for a gift for the disc golfer in their life. Or for someone considering making a purchase for themselves.

We are going to start with a very popular genre of disc golf bags, the Economy Disc Golf Bags. These are entry level bags that are good not only for people just starting out in the sport, but great for die-hard golfers who want to play a quick round, or who want to improve their game by throwing a round using only a couple discs. These bags are relatively inexpensive, ranging in price from $19.99 to $79.99, hold a decent amount of discs, and usually have room for a drink and some snacks. Once most of us have been in the sport for a while, we carry enough discs that the economy bags are not an option for regular use. Especially with the necessity to carry food and water during long rounds and tournaments. But, even when you move to a bigger bag, as mentioned, opportunities still arise to use the smaller bags. Let’s take a look at the top sellers in this category, in order of popularity.

Top 5 Inexpensive Disc Golf Bags

If you’re looking for a great low price disc golf backpack, consider from our top selling list:

  1. Dynamic Discs Trooper Backpack
  2. Infinite Discs Slinger Bag
  3. Infinite Discs Stealth Bag
  4. Prodigy BP3 Disc Golf Backpack
  5. Innova Discover Backpack

Dynamic Discs Trooper Backpack

Leading the pack (pardon the pun) is the popular Dynamic Discs Trooper. At $39.99 the Trooper is not the least expensive in the category, but it holds more than the rest on the list. It can carry about 18 discs in the main compartment and 3-4 discs in the upper compartment. It has a water bottle holder, and a little bit of storage for snacks, etc. The construction of the bag is good, ensuring a long life on the disc golf course. The bag comes in several colors.

Infinite Discs Slinger Bag

The next most popular disc golf bag on the list is the Infinite Disc Slinger. This pack is perfect for the beginner or experienced disc golfers who want to to play a round with variety of discs, but not all of their throwers. It holds about 10 discs, and can handle larger discs like the Condor. The single-sling design can be adjust for either shoulder. It has a drink holder for your water bottle and a pocket for miscellaneous items. The Slinger is at the low end of the category price scale at $19.99.

Infinite Stealth Bag

Infinite Stealth Bag w/Bladder

The third most popular Economy Backpack Bag is the Infinite Stealth Bag. This popular bag is a kind of a niche bag. With only room for up to eight discs, the Stealth Bag is perfect for speed rounds, tough mountain courses, traveling light, or rounds using only a few discs. Though minimalist by design, the Stealth still has a water bottle holder and a pocket for snacks, phones, etc. The sleek bag even has a version with a two-liter water bladder to keep you hydrated as you play. The regular Stealth is the model that earned the third place spot, while the bladder version came in sixth place. The Stealth runs $29.99 for the regular bag, and $37.99 w/bladder. As of this posting, we are out of the Stealth and Stealth w/Bladder. We don’t anticipate getting more until 2020. Watch our weekly newsletter for updates.

Prodigy BP3 Economy Disc Golf Bag

Prodigy BP3

The Prodigy BP3 is next on the list. This bag holds up to 17 discs. It has two zippered pouches and a drink holder. It also has a deep putter pocket on the top of the bag. The BP3 has reinforced, padded straps for comfort. The bottom of the bag is made with a waterproof material, making it great for mornings when there is dew on the ground. This bag, like the Trooper, can be used as a backpack for school, vacations, hiking, etc. The BP-3 sells for $29.99.

Innova Discover Pack

The final economy disc golf backpack on our list is the Innova Discover bag. This bag holds up to 15 discs. It has an internal U-frame with a divider to keep the discs from flopping around when the bag is not full. It has a Velcro pocket on one side and a drink holder on the other. It also has a zippered putter pouch on top. Use the bag on the disc golf course, day hikes, or as a school bag.  The discover back ties the Slinger for the least expensive bag at $19.99.

The price point for this category of bags makes them attractive to beginners and veteran players looking for a smaller bag. They are great for someone just starting out, or for youth players who aren’t quite big enough for a larger bag. Check out our full line of economy bags here: Economy Disc Golf Backpack Bags

Introducing FlighTowel

Infinite Discs Welcomes FlighTowel!

We’re here to introduce you to the newest towel on our site, FlighTowel! This towel comes in three different forms: FlighTowel, FlighTowel JR, and FlighTowel Mini.

The FlighTowel

The FlightTowel brings new innovation to warming up for disc golf, with the utility of a towel to dry your discs. The FlighTowel comes with a Disc Fob attached, made from a real disc. When purchasing your FlighTowel, you can select a Disc Fob that suits your game!

To warm up, hold the FlighTowel by the Fob and pull through across your chest, as demonstrated in the video below. There is a pocket on the bottom of the towel to add some drag, more realistically simulating weight and resistance.

When you’re done warming up, tuck the fob in your back pocket and use the towel to keep your discs dry for the rest of the game. The FlighTowel is awesome for warming up on the course, staying hot during the round, or even practicing at home. Check our our selection of FlighTowels here!

The FlighTowel JR

The FlighTowel JR is made from the same premium microfiber as the original FlightTowel, but without the fob. This is the biggest towel that FlighTowel makes, coming in at 16″ x 24″. This towel features a carabiner mounted in the middle of the towel, a unique feature that we love! This allows the disc to hang from your bag or cart without dragging on the ground. This keeps your towel clean while still having a large surface area to dry your discs off. See our selection of FlighTowel JR here!

The FlighTowel Mini

The FlighTowel Mini is a smaller version of the FlighTowel JR. The Mini features a center mounted adjustable bungee. This is a 16″ x 16″ microfiber towel.

Pick your bungee color and you’re all set! Use this towel on your bag, cart, or wrist during your round.

This, and the other FlighTowels, are truly towels like no other. See our selection of FlighTowel Mini here!

Best Unique Disc Golf Disc

Disc Golf Course in Thickly Wooded Forest

This award’s category is a bit different than our other ones we have done so far. Today we are looking at unique discs. These are discs that you notice are different from the first time you see them or throw them. They could be drivers, putters, or some kind of hybrid. We are looking for the weird and unusual, but also don’t forget the first word of the title of this post: Best. Is this weird disc actually useful out on the course? And don’t forget our two keywords which are popularity and utility.

The popularity may not play as big of a role in today’s article, but we are still looking closely at utility. We are looking for the discs that are getting use out on the course still. We want uniqueness that provides something useful for the disc. So all that being said, let’s get to our nominees for The Infinite Discs Best Disc Golf Disc: Unique Disc.

Discraft Banger GT

The GT stands for “Groove Top,” which is pretty self explanatory. The Discraft Banger GT features a groove along the top of the disc that is designed for placing your thumb in the groove when you grip the disc. This disc is used as a putting putter, but is also a popular approach disc.

Innova Condor

The Innova Condor is our nomination from the disc golf “super-class” category of discs. These are large diameter discs that are PDGA approved. Most of these discs are pretty much irrelevant in modern competitive disc golf, but the Condor is still popular in some communities as an approach disc or even a roller disc with it’s large blunt rim. The Condor is also a popular disc for playing catch to warm up before competitive rounds.

Innova Groove

I often call the Innova Groove the punchline disc of disc golf. I give it this name because it is often joked about as being one of the worst discs. However, for those who have actually used this distance driver, it isn’t a bad disc at all and could even be described as underrated. It gets the jokes because of why it is named the Groove. There is a dip/groove in the rim of the disc that is kind of weird looking. However, when throwing the disc backhand, you can’t feel the groove at all. It may influence forehand shots, but for stable distance backhand shots, the Groove is a great disc.

Dynamic Discs Justice

The Dynamic Discs Justice is unique not because of how it looks but how it flies. The Justice is a ridiculously overstable midrange disc that has pretty much no glide at all. The insane overstability makes this disc is a popular choice in windy conditions. But this unique disc is not only used in those conditions. It is a popular choice for approach shots and trying to get around a tight bend.

Prodigy M5

The Prodigy M5 might be the worst selling disc among our nominees today, but it has something so unique that it is worth adding to our list. It is the most understable midrange in the Prodigy lineup, and it features a really funky rim. When you look at the bottom of the disc, it almost looks like there is a smaller disc stuck inside of a larger disc. The M5 looks like it has two rims. It isn’t a bead, but it is just two bumps that look like the bottom of two different beadless midranges. It is kind of weird and very unique.

Latitude 64 Missilen

The Latitude 64 Missilen was the first ever disc released with a speed rating of 15. And to my knowledge, it is still the only disc with a speed rating this high. To achieve this rating, the Missilen features one of the larges rims in disc golf, but that isn’t even the most unique thing about this disc. Across the top of the flight plate there are little hexagonal pock marks in the plastic which is designed to influence the flight of the disc. It does influence the flight offering a unique flight that is a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but those who have learned how to use the Missilen are able to throw the disc very far.

HyzerBomb Moab

The HyzerBomb Moab is a super overstable disc that flirts with the line between midrange and fairway driver. It is one of the only discs that is comparable with the Dynamic Discs Justice as far as how overstable it is. This disc is a meethook that will fight any wind. It also has a unique rim that is more aerodynamic on the edge like a driver, but it has a divot in it that kind of functions as a really large bead. The Moab is a different kind of disc to say the least.

Innova Nova

The Innova Nova wasn’t the first disc to be made with an overmold, but it features one of the most unique overmolds in disc golf. MVP/Axiom features only discs with an overmold, but when you look at their shape, they look similar to other discs that don’t have an overmold. But The Nova has a totally different shape, featuring a very tall rim. Also this disc flies like no other with hardly any fade at all due to this unique overmold.

Latitude 64 Sinus

The Latitude 64 Sinus is a pretty popular approach putter. It features three textured “patches” along the top of the disc designed to offer extra grip for your thumb placement when gripping the disc. Each patch has different textures so you can choose the one that is most comfortable for your grip. In flight, the Sinus is pretty overstable and is a good choice for battling the wind.

Innova Sonic

There are several older Innova putters that are pretty unique now, but most of them are basically obsolete. But the Innova Sonic has seen a resurgence in recent years. Garrett Gurthie has even made it one of his signature tour series discs. It is a straight flyer that is similar to the Nova in that it is very fade resistant. It has a rim that is similar to an ultimate disc and features grooves on the top for thumb grip. and it has a unique flight plate that is reminiscent of cheap promo discs you will get for free at a parade or from a dentists office. But don’t let that fool you. The Sonic is a great straight flying disc for approach and even putting.

Reptilian Stego

The Reptilian Stego is an often forgotten disc coming from a smaller name brand. The manufacturer’s turn rating for this disc is a +1. For those of you unfamiliar with turn ratings, this means that the disc does not turn, which means the Stego is a massively overstable midrange disc. It also features a little lip on the top near the rim called a thumb track.

The Best Unique Disc Golf Disc

THE INFINITE DISCS BEST DISC GOLF DISC: UNIQUE DISC

INNOVA NOVA

There were so many great unique discs nominated, but ever since the Innova Nova was released in 2013, it has been in a class of it’s own as far as uniqueness goes. While all MVP/Axiom discs feature an overmold, the Nova overmold is different and unlike anything else on the market. Also the flight is unique offering an ultra-straight flight pattern with almost no fade at all. And considering how well the Nova sells and how often you see top pros throwing it, the disc’s uniqueness is working for it. If you have never tried the Innova Nova and feel like trying something different and unique, give one a try today!

Best Disc Golf Driving Putters

Disc Golf Tee Pad

It’s time for another post choosing the absolute “BEST” discs in another category (according to our unfortunately flawed opinions :))! Today, we will be looking at the best driving putters on the disc golf market.

Throwing Putter vs. Putting Putter

What makes a putter a driving putter? the term “driving putter” Isn’t really a technical term when it comes to disc design and manufacturing. However, discs that are commonly referred to as driving putters are discs that fall into the traditional “Putt and Approach” classification.

They are sometimes popular discs used for putting as well, but what makes them a driving putter is they are discs that perform well off the tee on shorter holes, usually about 300 feet or shorter. They are discs that can hold up when thrown with power for longer shots. While many people usually have putters that they only putt with (like within 60 feet), these are the putters made to be thrown.

As always, we are using two key words when selecting our nominees and winners–popularity and utility. We are looking for popular driving putters that can be utilized by disc golfers of a variety of skill levels. For reference to popularity, here are the top 10 best selling putt and approach discs during the final quarter of 2018:

Top Selling Putt and Approach Discs

  1. Discmania P2 Psycho
  2. Axiom Envy
  3. Innova Aviar
  4. Westside Maiden
  5. Dynamic Discs Judge
  6. Dynamic Discs Warden
  7. Gateway Wizard
  8. Innova Nova
  9. Discraft Zone
  10. Westside Harp

Now, here are our nominees for The Infinite Discs Best Disc Golf Disc: Driving Putter Disc.

Axiom Envy

The Axiom Envy is a slightly overstable putter that functions well as a driving putter. It has a flat top and features the signature gyro technology overmold. For driving, the Envy maintains a straight flight with a reliable soft overstable finish at the end of the flight.

Westside Harp

Here we have the recent winner of our best approach disc award, and the way it is used off the tee makes it a popular choice as a driving putter as well. The Westside Harp might be our most overstable disc nominated today, and some may argue this overstablility makes the Harp not a true driving putter. But the Harp is available in a lot of plastic blends, and these different plastic blends offer a variety of stability performances. The BT Hard Harp which was made popular by Ricky Wysocki is a more straight and stable flying Harp, so it is a great choice for those looking for a more mild Harp.

Dynamic Discs Judge

The Dynamic Discs Judge has always been a top seller ever since its release in 2012. The Judge is a beaded putter that is very popular both as a putting putter and a driving putter. Beaded putters are often popular choices for driving putters because they offer a little more stability so it can handle more power and a little more wind than their beadless counterparts. The Judge is no exception to this. It is a great, straight flying putter that is very predictable and easy to learn to use.

Innova Nova

The Innova Nova was nominated in our approach discs article, but not in our putters article because approaching and driving is really where this disc excels. It is one of the most unique discs on the market featuring an overmold design that allows this disc to fly very very straight for a long time. It is a true stable flyer, meaning when thrown on a straight flat line, it holds that line very well with nearly no fade at the end. The Innova Nova is a true driving putter.

Discmania P2

The Discmania P2 has been topping the sales charts over the last couple of years. The P2 is a popular choice for putting and driving. in the best putters post, I mentioned that Discmania does a good job of differentiating the different plastic blends and the benefits of each blend. This is especially applicable for the driving aspect of the P2. The S-Line P2 is a more overstable driving putter, while the D-Line P2 is a great hyzer-flip driving putter for more understable flights.

Prodigy PA-4

All of the discs in Prodigy‘s PA series are popular choices for driving putters, but the one that we are nominating is the PA-4. The PA-4 has a unique rounded rim and is often referred to more as a driving putter than a putting putter. It offers a pretty straight to understable flight pattern and is available in pretty much all of the Prodigy plastic blends.

Dynamic Discs Warden

The Warden was nominated in our best putters article, and there I explained that is basically a beadless Judge. That is interesting when you look at those two discs as driving putters. The Warden is straight to understable off the tee with lots of glide. It is great as a straight flyer, maybe the only disc on this list that can compare to the Nova in the way it holds a line with minimal fade at the end.

Gateway Wizard

The Gateway Wizard won our best putter award, and in that article we mentioned how the Wizard is also a popular driving putter choice. Similar to the Judge, it has a bead and a deeper dish which allows for lots of glide and a smooth and soft overstable finish at the end of the flight. Also the Wizard is available in a bunch of plastic blends so whether you like a soft or stiff driving putter, you can find a Wizard that will work for you. straight flying putter that can be lethal from distance as well.

Discraft Zone

I may have spoken too soon when I said that the Harp was the most overstable disc nominated today. The Discraft Zone is another flat topped and overstable driving putter that has always been a popular choice for approach and driving off the tee. It has a comfortable rim for forehand shots off the tee as well. Again, this may not fit the “mold” as a traditional driving putter, but the Discraft Zone is a popular and reliable choice for shots off the tee, so it has earned a nomination today.

The Best Throwing Putter Is….

Okay everyone! It is now time to announce our winner of the Infinite Discs Best Disc Golf Disc: Driving Putter Disc! This is a category that has lots of great nominees, and making the final choice was difficult. But we tried to stay true to our criteria of our two key words: Popularity and Utility. And I think we made the correct choice. Before we reveal the winner, here are the nominees once again:

And here is our selection for the winner:

THE INFINITE DISCS BEST DISC GOLF DISC: DRIVING PUTTER DISC

INNOVA NOVA

To be honest, this one came down to two options. It was either the Innova Nova or the Discmania P2. The P2 is a very popular disc that makes a great driving putter, but what tipped the scales in favor of the Innova Nova is the fact that it is a pure driving putter. It is rare to find someone who putts with the Nova.

So the fact that it continues to finish as a top 10 selling disc in the putt and approach category is very impressive. It also offers a very unique flight pattern that is so straight for so long with minimal fade. When all is said and done, the Innova Nova is a truly versatile disc that is used by disc golfers at every skill level.

The Tournament HARP also jumped to the top with a Halloween edition that really got some positive attention. The Deputy and Judge also came into the top twenty with strong moves with the boost of some Halloween stamps. The new Savant by Innova hit the chart with the Luster plastic, which features the “protostar” stamp, and the Star edition which is the first stock stamped edition. The P2 held onto four different spots in the top twenty, which is some serious staying power.

#16 – Star MAKO3
#18 – Lucid PATROL
#20 – Star TEEBIRD
There are a couple of interesting things on this week’s chart when compared to last weeks chart (CLICK HERE for last week’s chart). Discmania had two new releases which shot straight to the top with the Swirly S-Line DD and the Glow D-Line P2 (Halloween Edition). New releases will usually shake up the weekly chart, since they get a boost in sales just by virtue of being new. Thus, the Star Destroyer and regular P-Line P2 dropped to those new releases. Also, we got two of the Trilogy Challenge discs in stock this last week, and the Origio Burst Maiden putter sold out almost the same day it was added to our website. The Lucid Patrol is also selling well as one of those Trilogy Challenge discs and made it onto the chart. Full Foil Super Color Buzzz discs are continuing to get spikes in sales from time to time as people collect the different stamp designs.
