Best-Selling Disc Golf Backpacks of Summer 2016

We often look with great interest at the best-selling disc golf discs for given periods of time. Best-sellers of the summer. Best-sellers of the year. Best-sellers of the quarter, etc. It is about time that we take a look at some of the hottest selling backpack bags from the summer of 2016.

bp-3#1 – Prodigy BP-3 Backpack – The number one spot was quickly claimed by a new backpack, the BP-3, that came out near the end of the summer. It flew of the shelves and onto the backs of players for one simple reason: The PRICE was right at only $29.99!  The sales numbers would have been higher, but they sold out at Prodigy’s warehouse. The BP-3 certainly fills a niche for players who want to use a backpack, but always found the price a bit higher than they wanted to pay. It has very basic features, but is certainly serviceable for casual play. It can even be used for hiking or camping, or as a school backpack. At that price, why not?

#2 – Dynamic Discs Commander – The second place spot goes to the Commander which it a high-end bag that lands in the reasonable $120 range. It has become a popular backpack with players who like a compact feel and the sturdy nature of the bag. The “Black Ops” edition recently came out with a blackened stars-and-stripes theme.

#3 – Dynamic Discs Sniper Backpack – Once again, price plays a factor in the sales for the Sniper backpack by Dynamic Discs. At $69.99 it is an affordable and dependable pack that gets the job done. It holds 16 discs in the main compartment plus has dual water bottle pockets. Perfect for a casual tournament round.

#4 – Innova Heropack – The Heropack is Innova’s more affordable, entry-level backpack at $89.99. It comes in a large variety of colors and it holds upwards of 25 discs plus putter pockets on the top and front of the bag. It also includes extra accessory pockets and a drink holder. It is a very well-rounded bag for the price.

#5 – MVP Voyager – The new Voyager takes the number five spot as another end-of-summer release. It is the newest backpack offering from MVP. It features a heavy duty padded back and straps for support, plus putter pocket, large upper compartment for storage, plus drink holders, accessory pockets, and straps for a stool, etc. It is a bag that competes on a professional level and sells for $139.95.

Those were the top-selling bags at Infinite Discs for the summer of 2016. It will be fun to see which backpacks get the most traction heading into the holiday season. Have fun out there!

Choosing The Right Practice Basket

Best Disc Golf Practice Basket

A practice basket is one of the best ways to keep your putting technique sharp. From time to time people ask which basket they should buy. In this blog post I will discuss four types of baskets and make recommendations for each one.

Let’s break baskets down into four different types:

The two things I ask before I recommend a basket to someone is how much they want to spend, and how the basket will be used. Specifically, how often will the basket be moved around, and will it be used for leagues or tournaments. Generally speaking, I would recommend the heavy-duty baskets for their quality and being the closest to duplicating the performance of a professional-level basket. If you are okay with the weight, bulk, and cost of the heavy baskets, that would be your best bet. However, if you will be transporting the basket a lot, you might not want to deal with the weight and bulk of the heavy-duty baskets. In that case, a light-duty or foldable basket will better suit your needs. Or, if you just want an inexpensive basket to practice with, you’ll be satisfied with the light-duty or foldable types.

Infinite Discs asked a group of us to test all of the baskets mentioned above. After hundreds of putts on each one, from a variety of distances, we compiled our numbers and our opinions based on those numbers. The information below represents our results and views of the baskets.

With that in mind, let’s examine the four types.

Foldable:

FoldableBasketsThis type of basket collapses down and fits inside a bag for ease of transport. They are great for practicing at home, and easiest to take elsewhere. They are comparable in price to the light-duty baskets. The Innova SkillShot has a smaller target area and because of that almost falls into the category of the ‘Narrow Target’ basket type. However, it catches discs much better than the other Narrow Target baskets and for that reason deserves to be in this category. Testing the SkillShot resulted in the most misses, which is not surprising given the smaller target area. The Traveler slightly edged the Mach Lite success rate, but not by much.

Recommendation: The DGA Mach Lite is a quality basket that performs well, is easy to set up or down, and easy to transport. It is the most expensive of the three foldable baskets, but worth the extra money. If budget is more of a priority, you’ll be happy with one of the other two. If you can pay the little extra, it’s worth it for the performance of the Mach Lite.

Narrow Target:

NarrowBaskets

You are most likely considering this type of basket if you want to fine tune your putting. These don’t catch discs as well (it’s not their purpose) so you won’t haul it to a league or tournament very often. I have a Bullseye and like to use it to practice. It’s nice to train your brain to hit smaller targets. Since it is a smaller target, you will miss a lot more putts than on a regular basket. For that reason, I like to go back to my regular baskets after a bit. Even though you know a lot of those missed putts on a narrow basket would be successful on a bigger one, it’s nice to see a successful putt. I like to say that Narrow Target baskets are better as a second basket.

Recommendation: Both of these baskets are built well and look good, but the Marksman costs quite a bit less. For that reason, I would recommend the Dynamic Discs Marksman.

Light-Duty:

Lite Duty Frisbee Golf Targets

These baskets are slimmed down versions of the heavy baskets. They have fewer chains, and are lighter and less expensive. They aren’t as easy to fold up and move as the foldable type basket, but are easier than the heavy-duty baskets. Fewer and lighter chains mean more spit outs and misses, but not a significant amount less. These baskets cost $50-90 less than the heavier baskets, making them a good choice if you are on a budget.

Recommendation: I would be happy to have any of these three in my backyard. While testing these baskets we had a slightly higher success rate with the Hive and Lite, but fewer spit outs with the Mach 14. Since it costs a little less, my recommendation is for the Discmania Lite. It’s the least expensive in its class, but performs similar to the other baskets.

Heavy-Duty:

Best PDGA Approved Portable BasketsThe closest to the professional baskets found at the disc golf course, these baskets are great for practicing at home or for playing extra holes at a tournament. Testing this type of basket led to the highest success rate and the least amount of spit outs. They are made well, with the higher price tag to go with them.

Recommendation: Although it costs more than all of the other baskets, the Dynamic Discs Recruit is worth the extra money. It looks good, performs well, and even has a wheel to make moving it a little easier. While testing it, we all liked the feeling of confidence we got while putting on the Recruit. Its large target area and band around the top gave us a great psychological boost. The basket looks and feels like a professional basket, while costing significantly less. Like the light-duty baskets, all three models are good. So, if the Recruit is out of your budget, you can spend a little less with one of the other two and still get a good basket.

2015 Christmas Disc Golf Guide

With Christmas just a couple weeks away, it’s a great time to think about the gifts for the disc golfer in your life. Whether it’s your sweet heart, a buddy, the guy who runs your club, or a blogger for Infinite Discs 🙂 , sometimes it’s tough to decide on the best gift to give to that special person. After all, disc golfers like specific discs and getting the right model, plastic, and weight for them can be a tough choice. Fear not! We’ve compiled a list of gifts that most disc golfers would enjoy and appreciate.

To the casual observer, the only thing a person would need to play disc golf is a few discs. However, to a disc golfer there are tons of additional items that make the game a little better.

– For example, how about a copy of the inFlight guide? If you’ve ever wondered the flight numbers for a certain disc, and how it compares to your favorite disc, the inFlight guide is for you. A handy reference full of universal flight ratings and flight charts, the guide will help you know the flight numbers for nearly every disc available.

– Do you know a disc golfer who plays in the rain or the sweltering heat? Chances are, they could use a Dirt Bag. The Dirt Bag helps disc golfer’s deal with moisture, humidity, and sweaty hands to achieve a better grip on their disc.

– Everybody needs a calendar. But, instead of pictures of puppies, cars, or beautiful models, why not get your disc golfer a disc golf calendar?! Featuring scenic shots from courses around the globe, the disc golf calendar is something every golfer would love.

– Disc golfers of any skill level would benefit from the advice given in the book, Zen and the Art of Disc Golf. This book gives practical advice for building a foundation for becoming a better disc golfer. It is a book BY a disc golfer, FOR disc golfers.

Bags: Okay, certainly every serious disc golfer already has a bag. But what about those days when they just want to carry a couple discs? Having a smaller bag around for those ‘putt and approach’ or tester rounds will make it easier to lug just a few discs around the course, along with some water or a snack. Is the special person in your life cramming all of their discs in an over-stuffed small bag? It might be a good time for them to move up to a backpack style bag. Plus, it gives them an excuse to get more discs to fill the new bag! One especially hot disc golf bag is the new Innova Heropack.

Stools (seats): If your disc golfer likes tournaments or plays in a league, chances are they would like to take a break while waiting at a tee box. A stool or seat is the perfect thing to allow golfers to take a break from the action and save precious energy for the game.

Misc: There are a variety of items that every disc golfer should have. A retriever, for example, has saved many a golfer from wading out into a pond or river to retrieve an errant disc. A good towel is invaluable for removing moisture due to rain, dew, or bodies of water. They also come in handy for cleaning mud from discs or for drying hands. If you really want to score points with the disc golfer in your life, give them a portable basket for Christmas! Every golfer wants to improve their putting, and a portable basket allows them to practice at home.

Discs: For the more adventurous gift giver, new release discs are a fun gift to give. Who doesn’t love to try the newest plastic or rubber to hit stores?

Christmas Edition Discs: For the holiday’s you can even purchase special stamped Christmas discs including the: Legacy Rampage, Hunter, Innova Leopard3, Thunderbird, Destroyer, Spider and MVP AMP (available December 14th).

For an especially inexpensive gift, Innova also has the OrnaMini. A tiny disc that serves as both a Christmas Tree Ornament and a mini-marker.

Apparel: Who doesn’t love sporting a shirt from Infinite Discs? Choose from comfortable cotton or moisture wicking shirts in a variety of colors, all with the Infinite Discs name and logo.

Gift Cards: Okay, let’s face it, some of us either don’t do well selecting gifts for others, or, we are searching for a gift for a very picky person. The safe bet is a simply a gift card from Infinite Discs. It’s the sure-fire way to know that the person will love what they get!

Top Discs of Summer 2015

Top Selling Discs Summer 2015

Summer is our biggest time of year for disc sales. During the third quarter (July – September), we typically see less new releases come out than we do during the spring months.  The Q3 sales report gives us a good grasp on what the top disc golf discs really are based on sales data. From our third quarter sales, it’s clear that Innova is still the #1 manufacturer for disc sales. Trilogy and MVP continue to gain market share and grow in popularity while Discraft and Prodigy appear to be trending towards less relevant.

If you’re looking for a new disc to buy, but aren’t sure where to start, you may want to consider these. There is a reason disc golfers all around the world keep buying these top rated discs.

Top Disc Golf Discs for Q3 2015

Top 10 Overall

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Discraft Buzzz
  3. Gateway Wizard
  4. Innova TeeBird
  5. Dynamic Discs Judge
  6. Innova Boss
  7. Latitude 64 River
  8. Innova Valkyrie
  9. Latitude 64 Pure
  10. Innova Tern

There weren’t a lot of changes in the top selling discs of the third quarter compared with the second quarter. The Innova Destroyer was still the top selling disc followed by the Discraft Buzzz, Gateway Wizard, and Innova TeeBird.

Top Distance Drivers

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Boss
  3. Innova Valkyrie
  4. Innova Tern
  5. MVP Inertia
  6. MVP Photon
  7. Innova Wraith
  8. Innova Beast
  9. Vibram Lace
  10. Innova Katana

For Distance drivers, there is almost no change between the top selling discs from the second quarter. Call it the Paul McBeth effect, as Innova flat out dominates the distance driver market with seven of the top ten selling drivers.

Top Control/Fairway Drivers

  1. Innova Teebird
  2. Latitude 64 River
  3. Innova Leopard
  4. Latitude 64 Saint
  5. Innova Thunderbird
  6. MVP Volt
  7. Discmania FD
  8. MVP AMP
  9. Westside Hatchet
  10. Innova Eagle

Innova Champion discs also has a strong presence in in fairway driver sales. The TeeBird is still the #1 selling driver. While most of the top selling fairway drivers remain the same, the MVP Volt dropped from #3 to #6 during the third quarter. The Discmania FD, Westside Hatchet, and Innova Eagle made our top 10 replacing the  DD Felon, Vibram Trak, Axiom Crave, and Latitude 64 Trident.

Top Midrange Discs

  1. Discraft Buzzz
  2. Innova Roc3
  3. Dynamic Discs Truth
  4. Innova Mako3
  5. Innova Roc
  6. Discraft Buzzz OS
  7. Latitude 64 Claymore
  8. MVP Axis
  9. Latitude 64 Fuse
  10. Discraft Comet

The Discraft Buzzz remains the top selling midrange disc, and is the only midrange that made the top 10 overall.  While the Comet cracked the top 10, it is actually only our 73rd top selling disc. Entering the top 10 this quarter are the MVP Axis and Latitude 64 Fuse — replacing the Dynamic Discs Justice and Discraft Buzzz SS.

To Putt and Approach Discs

  1. Gateway Wizard
  2. Dynamic Discs Judge
  3. Latitude 64 Pure
  4. Innova Colt
  5. Innova Aviar
  6. Axiom Envy
  7. MVP Anode
  8. MVP Atom
  9. Innova KC Aviar
  10. MVP Ion

While Distance Drivers is the top selling category overall, Putt and approach discs are second. The Wizard, Judge, and Pure are all top ten selling discs with the Innova Colt not far behind. MVP/Axiom putters were not quite as popular this quarter as the Envy and Atom both dropped a few spots compared with Q2. A new disc, the Innova Colt, entered the top 10 at number four as a hot new item. It will be interesting to see if the Colt remains a top selling putter, or if it made the top 10 because it is new. The KC Aviar filled in the #9 spot replacing the Prodigy PA-3.

Top Selling Plastic Type

  1. Innova Star
  2. Innova Champion
  3. Innova DX
  4. MVP Neutron
  5. Latitude 64 Opto
  6. Latitude 64 Gold Line
  7. Discraft Elite Z
  8. Innova GStar
  9. Axiom Neutron
  10. Dynamic Discs Lucid

When it comes to the most popular disc plastics, to no surprise, Innova dominates taking the top three spots. It certainly helps that the Star Destroyer and Star TeeBird are two of our most popular selling discs. Star plastic actually jumped Champion as the top selling disc plastic type for the third quarter. While several of the MVP discs dropped in rankings this quarter, overall Neutron plastic rose a spot from 5 to 4 while Latitude 64 Opto dropped two spots. Innova GStar and Discraft Elite Z swapped spots in the 7th and 8th positions.

Top Disc Golf Discs of Q2 2015

The first half of 2015 is over. The disc golf industry continues to grow and evolve. In the first six months of the year, Infinite Discs has added 47 new disc models and countless number of new plastic types for existing disc molds. New discs and plastics generally sell best, but many of the older traditional Frisbees continue to find top spots in terms of overall popularity.

What are the best disc golf discs in 2015?

According to our sales figures, the majority which are online and include regions all around the United States, these are the top selling discs for the hot selling spring months of April-June:

[box type=”bio”]

Top Distance Drivers

  1. Innova Destroyer
  2. Innova Boss
  3. Innova Valkyrie
  4. Innova Tern
  5. Latitude 64 Saint
  6. MVP Inertia
  7. MVP Photon
  8. Innova Wraith
  9. Innova Beast
  10. Vibram Lace[/box]

Innova dominates distance driver sales, and holds the top four spots. The Destroyer is not only the most popular selling distance driver, but it is our number 1 selling disc period. While no particular plastic for the Wraith and Beast sell significantly well, the large number of available plastic types keeps these discs in the Q2 top 10.
[box type=”bio”]

Top Fairway/Control Drivers

  1. Innova TeeBird
  2. MVP Volt
  3. Innova Leopard
  4. Latitude 64 River
  5. Innova Thunderbird
  6. Dynamic Discs Felon
  7. MVP AMP
  8. Vibram Trak
  9. Axiom Crave
  10. Latitude 64 Trident[/box]

With the exception of the TeeBird which is our #3 selling disc for the quarter, fairway drivers typically don’t sell quite as much as distance drivers. For this quarter’s stats, Latitude 64 River sales numbers are likely down from what they should be because for a few weeks Dynamic Distribution was out of the River in its most popular selling plastic, Gold Line. We couldn’t sell what we didn’t have in stock.

The Vibram Trak, which is on it’s way out of production, made the top 10 and while the Latitude 64 Trident filled the bottom spot for Fairway/Control drivers. It ranks 77th overall for all discs sold by Infinite during the second quarter of 2015.
[box type=”bio”]

Top Midrange Discs

  1. Discraft Buzzz
  2. Innova Roc3
  3. Dynamic Discs Truth
  4. Innova Mako3
  5. Innova Roc
  6. Discraft Buzzz OS
  7. Discraft Buzzz SS
  8. Discraft Comet
  9. Dynamic Discs Justice
  10. Latitude 64 Claymore[/box]

For those who have played disc golf for a while, it’s no surprise that the Discraft Buzzz is still the top selling midrange, and our number 2 selling disc overall. It’s their Midranges, especially the Buzzz family, that keep Discraft sales up. Discraft sales numbers were likely inflated for Infinite Discs as we are one of the exclusive dealers for limited Ledgestone Edition discs.

[box type=”bio”]

Top Putt and Approach Discs

  1. Gateway Wizard
  2. Dynamic Discs Judge
  3. MVP Atom
  4. Axiom Envy
  5. Discraft Zone
  6. Latitude 64 Pure
  7. MVP Anode
  8. Innova Aviar
  9. Prodigy PA-3
  10. MVP Ion[/box]

The Gateway Wizard is still our most popular selling putter despite the fact that we had supplier break downs that kept our stock from staying where it should have been. During this quarter the Wizard was our 5th most popular selling disc overall, just one spot ahead of the DD Judge.  Finding its way in the top ten, the MVP Ion was our 41st most popular disc for the quarter. With four of the top 10 putters manufactured by MVP, this fast growing disc manufacturer shows how mainstream GYRO is becoming in the disc golf world. The PA-3 is the only Prodigy disc that has made any of our top 10’s during the second quarter.

[box type=”bio”]

Top Selling Plastic Types

  1. Innova Champion
  2. Innova Star
  3. Latitude 64 Opto
  4. Innova DX
  5. MVP Neutron
  6. Latitude 64 Gold Line
  7. Innova GStar
  8. Discraft Elite Z
  9. Axiom Neutron
  10. Dynamic Discs Lucid[/box]

Innova is still the leading disc manufacturer and produces four of our top selling plastics, including the top two. Latitude 64’s two major plastics also made the top 10 along with Dynamic Discs Lucid (which is the same plastic as Latitude 64 Opto, just branded differently). MVP and Axiom Neutron plastic also made the top ten and would have ranked even higher if our system didn’t separate them as different plastic types due to the variatons in branding.

The #1 selling disc plastic for the first half of 2015 is Innova Champion, fueled in large part by hot sales of the Champion Thunderbird, Teebird, Mako3, Roc3, Tern, Valkyrie, Destroyer, and Krait.

Star plastic is the #2 selling plastic, primarily because the Star Destroyer is such a hot selling disc. We sold more than three times as many Star Destroyers as the next most popular Star plastic model. Other top Star plastic discs include the TeeBird, Foxbat, Wraith, Tern, Boss and Mako.

Best Disc Golf Discs – 2015 Edition

If money could talk, it would tell you that the best disc golf discs are those that are purchased the most. While we can’t guarantee that these are indeed the best discs for you, these were our top selling discs in the fourth quarter of 2014. Disc sale statistics used to determine the top discs include online purchases from all 50 states, as well as Canada, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Germany.

[box] A couple of things to note, that skew the sales stats in a way that won’t give the most accurate representation of “the best discs”:

1. New discs tend to sell better. People like to try new discs, even if they might not actually be any better than their current discs.

2. During the holidays we had a several sales and promotions. Discs that are “on sale” tend to sell more than those that are not.

Top Selling Discs of Q4 2014

Our top 10 discs last quarter include a handful of the perennial top sellers, as well as a couple hot new discs especially popular among brand fanatics. While distance drivers are by far the most popular disc type sold, the top 10 includes a good selection of putters, midrange, fairway drivers, and the most popular midrange in the world.

Innova manufactures three of the top 10 selling discs. Also represented are Gateway, Legacy, Latitude 64, Dynamic Discs, and up and coming MVP/Axiom.

1. Discraft Buzzz – The Buzzz has always been our top selling disc at Infinite Discs. It is no surprise that this popular midrange is still #1. This disc is available in a dozen different plastic types with the most popular being the Elite Z Buzzz.

2. Gateway Wizard. – It’s also no surprise that the Wizard came in at #2. While the Buzzz has consistently been the number #1 mid, the Wizard has consistently been the #1 putter. Super Stupid Soft was the most popular of the 11 different Wizard plastic variations we carry.

3. Axiom Envy – The Envy is a colorful new disc that was initially released by Axiom Discs at the beginning of 2014. This putt and approach disc is especially popular as a driving putter. While Envy sales were consistently strong all year long, fourth quarter sales really exploded with the release of the Envy in Neutron Soft plastic.

4. Legacy Outlaw – For Legacy fans, the Outlaw was one of the most anticipated disc releases we have ever seen. We had regular inquiries about this disc that began almost a year before it was actually available. This stable distance driver available in Icon plastic is said to be Legacy’s answer to the popular Innova Destroyer.
5. Innova Destroyer – The Destroyer is by no means a new disc, nor is it one of the fastest discs currently available, but this distance driver continually sells well. The Destroyer is most popular in Star plastic.

6. Latitude 64 Saint – Disc golfers are always looking to get more distance. While speed does not always translate into distance, the Saints glide rating of 7, keeps the attention of the disc buyer. The Saint is consistently a top seller that is most popular in premium Gold Line plastic.

7. Innova Thunderbird – The Thunderbird was Innova’s hottest new release of 2014. It’s fourth quarter sales were enhanced by its availability as a Halloween edition disc, and its recent release in Champion plastic. It also doesn’t hurt that 3 Time world champion Paul McBeth regularily throws this control driver.

8. Innova Aviar – Because there are so many different variations of the Aviar, it’s hard to really classify the Aviar as one disc. Enhanced by the release of some special edition Aviars at the end of the year, this popular putt and approach disc made the top 10.

9. Dynamic Discs Judge – 2013’s All Things Disc Golf disc of the year continues to be popular in 2015. With increased options, now available in seven different plastic varieties, including the new Fluid blend, the Judge was a hot item at the end of last year.

10. Innova TeeBird – The TeeBird continues to be the standard for disc comparisons. When people talk about new discs to be released, they always compare with the TeeBird. Even though this disc is more than a decade old, it is still one of the best discs and a top 10 seller on InfiniteDiscs.com. Champion was the plastic of choice for customers who purchased the TeeBird.

Listed below are the top ten selling discs of each disc type:

Tips for Applying LED Lights to Disc Golf Discs

Disc Golf Disc with Light

Throwing at night with LED disc golf lights attached to your discs is a fun and amazing experience. We sometimes joke that during these “night rounds” of disc golf, that the authorities will be called due to sightings of UFO’s in the area. There’s really nothing quite like it. So get your warm clothes out, and keep playing at night!

With an LED light attached to your disc in the dark, we find that it is easier to find your disc during the night than during the day. However, LED’s attached to your disc can have a few drawbacks. So we’ve put together some “best practices” to make your night round as enjoyable as possible.

Need some disc lights? We’ve got a few! Buy Disc Lights Here!

Disc Golf Light Best Practices:

1: Use plenty of quality tape

We actually use the same packaging tape which we send your orders out with to secure lights to the dis.. This is the Scotch packaging tape made by 3M, and it works perfectly. This is transparent tape. We have seen others use duct tape to secure the light to the disc; duct tape works very well, but will sometimes leave a sticky residue afterwards.

2: Apply tape to clean discs

If you have a dirt or oil on your disc, the tape will stick to that instead of the disc plastic. This will cause your light to fall of your disc when it comes in contact with another object. You can clean your disc off by rinsing and rubbing it, or you can actually clean it off with some dish soap like you’re doing the dishes. Do not use anything abrasive, unless you hate the stock stamp that came on your disc and you like scuffs. A gentle wash should clean your disc nicely.

3: Apply tape when it is warm

This is where advanced preparation is incredibly important. We suggest doing this a day in advance. If that is not realistic, at least a few hours in advanced. Take your discs inside and let them come to room temperature. Once warm, apply the tape (which should also be room temperature) to the disc golf lights and discs, and let the tape settle in and adhere for a couple hours.

4: Place Light Correctly, Use Transparent Discs

Some people will place the light on the top of the disc, or they’ll place it on the bottom with the light facing towards the ground. This is not the best way to place your light. The best way is to tape the light to the bottom of your disc, with the light shining through the plastic. This gives the light some additional protection, decreases drag above the disc, and gives you the most visibility.

5: Package the disc golf light in clear tape, prior to applying disc light to disc

This serves two purposes:

  1. It may waterproof the disc light.
  2. Prevents damage to the light when removing the light from the disc (you’ll thank us later!)

6: Two Lights is Better than One

Two lights flying look amazing, just like a UFO. We admit, we haven’t seen a UFO, but we’ve heard from others who have that this is what they look like. Also, two lights will decrease your chance of losing the disc, if one light comes lose.

If you do so, understand that these lights are 2.9 grams (roughly 3.1g if you have taped them over), and will affect flight. You will not have the truest flight to what you are use to with that disc. However, to keep flight consistent, place the lights on opposite ends.

7: Attach disc golf lights to targets or obstacles

It’s great that your disc is now visible, but unless you light up your target, you may be out of luck.

8: Buy from Infinite Discs

Our pricing is the best. The higher the quantity package you order, the better pricing that you will receive (on both shipping and cost per item). Our prices are so excellent that even larger stores purchase their lights from us at the 20 quantity pricing.

If you’re serious about disc golf after dark, you may also want to consider purchasing glow in the dark discs. Not all discs glow as well as others (most trilogy discs in terms of glow-ability, are almost worthless). These discs work best when you use a UV black light flashlight, and also worked great when a disc light is also attached to them for maximum visibility.

9: Not PDGA Approved (Somewhat True)

Every time we say something about playing in the night with disc lights, somebody will point out that lights are not PDGA approved. We use to think this was true, until Dan R. chimed in below:

Q: Are players allowed to tape LED lights on discs for night or winter play?

A glow stick or LED light may be attached/taped to any PDGA Approved disc for use in sanctioned events where play occurs after sunset in that time zone. In addition, these lights may be attached to PDGA Approved discs for use during sanctioned play in daylight, specifically when there is sufficient snow cover on the course where the lights might make discs easier to locate. Non-PDGA Approved discs such as those with built-in LED lights cannot be used at any time during sanctioned play.

So when the self-proclaimed PDGA police come out after sunset, you can grimly point them to PDGA FAQ.

10: If Playing at Night Public Parks, Inform Local Law Enforcement

Many public parks have a curfew, or will not allow citizens to be at them after dark. However, if you inform your local law enforcement in advance that you are organizing an event they will more-than-likely be happy to let you hold your event after dark.

11: Do not use flashlights or phones

Over time, your eyes will adjust to the dark. If you use a flashlight or whip out your phone to check Facebook, it will make finding your discs more difficult; especially if you have a buddy who is using glow discs. If you are going to use a bright light, give your fellow players a warning so they can shield their eyes. It’s much easier to see disc golf lights when your eyes are adjusted to the darkness.
