TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – APRIL 14th 2020

It is time once again for our look back at the last week of sales. This weekly chart is generated from the sales figures at Infinite Discs – the purchases made by our customers are the only contributing factor to the statistics. We break the results down by disc model and plastic type so you can see which plastic types are selling the most. Here we go…

Top Twenty Tuesday for APRIL 14th, 2020

#1 – Discraft Special Blend LUNA
#2 – D-Line P2
#3 – Star DESTROYER
#4 – Signature ESP ZEUS
#5 – DX AVIAR
#6 – Z Line ZONE
#7 – Z Line FORCE
#8 – Discraft Prototype Putter Blend FIERCE
#9 – Z Misprint ZONE
#10 – ESP ZONE
#11 – Signature ESP ANAX
#12 – Champion Colored Glow FIREBIRD
#13 – Star WRAITH
#14 – ESP Misprint MALTA
#15 – XT NOVA
#16 – Z Line BUZZZ
#17 – Big Z BUZZZ
#18 – Jawbreaker ZONE
#19 – ESP BUZZZ
#20 – KC Pro KC AVIAR

It is still a strong chart this week for putters. The Discraft LUNA took the #1 spot with the Discmania D-Line P2 taking #2. The Innova DX Aviar took the #5 spot with the Zone, Fierce, Nova, and KC Aviar also hitting the chart. The Buzzz was on there in several plastic types, along with the Zone, making another Discraft-heavy chart this week.

Here is a look at how many times different brands appeared on this week’s chart, and it is a rare week because only three brands touched the chart:

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The person to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $10 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER – The #9 spot this week was taken by the Z Misprint Zone, which is an oddball on the chart because those sales all happened within a few minutes in the middle of the night. If you were sleeping, like most people do at night, you probably had no idea that anything happened when those hit the online store. Since that doesn’t feel very fair, we’re going to give the win this week to Kyle who guessed Z Line Zone (pretty close).

State of Disc Golf 2020 – How Do We Carry Our Discs?

How Do We Carry Our Discs?

It’s time for our look at how we carry our discs in 2020! We’ve asked this question in several surveys past, so we’ll have some good data to compare. For this data, we’ve broken down the results into five main categories: Backpack Bags, Disc Golf Carts, Small Bag, Large Tournament Style Bag, and Miscellaneous Bags (usually homemade or not made for disc golf).

2020 Survey Results

Backpack Bags take the cake with over 51.03% of people saying they use one. Disc Golf Carts took a close second place, at 18.62%, with Small bags being surprisingly high, at 18.4%. Large Tournament Style Bags only represent 8.3% of the results, with the last 3.65% being miscellaneous bags.

Let’s break it down! Backpack Bags being so heavily used is not a huge surprise. Most people at the disc golf course are using backpack bags these days. They are widely available and come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges. Even a beginner can afford a cheaper backpack bag, so many people are skipping over the Tournament Style Bag, which used to be a hot commodity.

Small Bags take a surprising 3rd place. But maybe it’s not so surprising with how many new players are taking up the sport. Most people are starting with a $15 – $20 starter bag and then upgrading once they have enough discs to warrant it. We think those upgrades are going directly to backpack bags. More on bag upgrades/replacements later.

Bags Over the Years

Let’s take a look at the trends over the years. We have data from 2020, 2018, 2017, and 2015 to show the trends. Let’s take a look:

Let’s look at the first takeaway- the decline of the Tournament Bag. Back in 2015, Tournament Bags were all the rage, taking up at least a third of the market. Over the years these bags have been used less and less, till now when Tournament Bags are only used by around 8% of people.

Small Bags have declined over the past few years, until this year. They made a big jump in the 2020 Survey. This is likely due to more and more new players getting into the sport. Some people, may also have opted to simplify their bag.

Disc Golf Carts have been raising in popularity ever since their introduction. ZUCA takes the majority share of Disc Golf Carts, offering them not only as ZUCA branded carts, but Dynamic Discs branded as well. More and more players are opting for carts now.

Backpack Bags steadily increased over the past years, and dipped a little bit this year. Backpack Bags seem to be the staple of Disc Golf Bags, so we don’t foresee them dropping off the charts anytime soon.

Replacing Our Bags/Carts

In the 2020 Survey, we asked people how many times they had replaced their bag/cart in the last 10 years. Let’s see the results:

The chart starts off with those people who have never replaced their bag. Quite a lot!

We were surprised at how many people stayed loyal to one bag over the course of 10 years. But, when you pit the people who replaced bags against the people who haven’t, it looks like the graph to the right. 32% of people did not replace their bag in the last 10 years.

Back to the upper chart- it seems like a perfect decline in people who replaced their bag multiple times. With each replacement, the number of people dropped, until 8+ times, a few bag-crazy people took it up just a notch on the chart. Where do you stand on the chart? What’s your preferred bag? Let us know in the comments!

TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – APRIL 7 2020

It is time once again for our look back at the last week of sales. #17 – Cryztal Sparkle BUZZZ
#18 – Jawbreaker ROACH
#19 – Z Line ZONE
#20 – Cryztal Sparkle UNDERTAKER

Putters are really picking up in sales since the coronavirus brought a “stay-at-home” policy to much of the country. Backyard putting is a big thing right now. The LUNA by Discraft took the #1 spot for the last week, being a putter that has been hot for a while. But the DX AVIAR slipped into the #3 spot, followed closely by the D-Line P2 (which might be even higher on the chart, if not for lack of supply). The Discraft ZONE hit the chart 3 times, in Jawbreaker, ESP, and Z-Line plastics. Other putter and approach discs on the chart include the Fierce, Judge, Nova, Ohm, and Roach.  In fact. of the Top 20 discs, 11 of those (more than half) are putters!

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The person to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $10 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER – The #8 spot this week was taken by the Nate Sexton Champion Colored Glow Firebird. It looks like SAM B. is our winner this week. Thanks for your guesses!

PLEASE NOTE– all comments (including guesses) don’t show up immediately when you make them, since all comments are approved by admin first. So you may not see the guesses that were made before yours until we approve a bunch of comments the next day. Sorry about that, but that’s the way we can avoid spam or inappropriate comments. The time stamp is still valid, based on when the comment was made (not when it was approved).

Farthest Flying Putters and Top Selling Putters by Brand

What are the top selling putters for each disc golf brand and which one flies the farthest?

This is the question nobody is asking, but a lot of people are curious to find the answer to thanks to lots of extra Covid 19 stay at home time. What is the farthest flying putter?

In this video, professional disc golfer Drew Gibson helps us answer these all important questions. He also likely sets the world putter distance record for about ten different disc brands.

If you’re concerned that you can’t throw a putter 500 feet, don’t be. Drew is one of the most powerful and farthest throwers in the world. Most disc golfers are happy to throw a driver the distance he gets the Stego to go.

Top Selling Disc Golf Putters by Brand

For this video, Drew used our top selling putter, over the last six months, from each disc golf brand. We carry over 40 different disc brands, but several of those brands are mostly irrelevant or no longer producing discs, so we didn’t bother including putters of disc golf brands unless their best selling at least made our top 75 putters list. The big brands like Innova, Discraft, and Dynamic Discs have dozens of different putters that all sell well. By comparison the top selling putter from Viking is not as popular as the 17th best selling putter from Innova.

Note, the Reptilian Stego thrown in this video is not really considered a putter, but as you can tell, in terms of distance it doesn’t go nearly as far as a putter, so Drew thought it would be good to compare that unique utility disc here.

Stamp Wars 2020 Winner

After three rounds of online voting and the final round which was determined by sales numbers, we have a 2020 Stamp Wars winner!

THE FINAL FOUR

This year, the four stamps that made it through the online voting phase were as follows:

THE ACE

by Silas Pearson

Features a flying, flaming ace card breaking through a chain.

THE DISC ELEMENTAL

by Steve Bayes

Features a creature of stone rising from the ground, lifting the basket from the earth.

HYPNOSIS

by Aaron Waggoner

Features the Infinite Discs logo (basically an Infinity symbol) layered into a decorative design.

LADY LUCK

by Justin Lago

Features a lady with her decorative hair that looks like basket chains.

THE 2020 WINNER

After a race that saw the lead change a couple of times, we finally have a winner. While the Disc Elemental stamp took an early lead, and Hypnosis then moved to the front, after the final weekend, THE ACE took the lead for the home stretch. Hypnosis came in a close 2nd place.

THE ACE is the winner this year. Congratulations to designer Silas Pearson and a very enthusiastic support crew who got the word out on social media to give the disc sales a final push.

Thanks again to all of the artists who submitted their cool designs this year. And thanks to the disc golfers that supported those artists by voting and purchasing discs. It was another fun contest this year. Thanks!
