Best Disc Golf Putters of 2018

Play Disc Golf

This article was written in 2018. Check out this article for the most current list of best disc golf putters.

Welcome to December disc golfers! Hopefully these best disc golf discs posts are helping you survive the off-season! And today we have a category that may cause some fights. We all have our favorites, but today we at Infinite Discs are going to try to select one disc golf putter as the best!

Before listing the nominees for The Infinite Discs Best Disc Golf Disc: Putter, let’s break down what we are looking for when making our selection. The two words I always come back to are popularity and utility. We want to choose a popular putter that is utilized by disc golfers of every skill level. Also, please note that this category is titled “Putter” and not “Putt and Approach.” We will be splitting those categories. For our purposes today, we are naming discs that are most commonly used as the disc inside 50 feet or so when you are trying to hole out. So for example, the Westside Harp which is an overstable Putt and Approach disc that is most commonly known for approaching will not be nominated in this category.

That being said, let’s take a look at the best selling Putt and Approach discs of 2018 so far:

Top sellers of 2018:

  1. Discmania P2
  2. Innova Aviar
  3. Dynamic Discs Judge
  4. Westside Harp
  5. Dynamic Discs Warden
  6. Axiom Envy
  7. Gateway Wizard
  8. Innova Nova
  9. Innova Sonic
  10. Latitude 64 Pure

Some of you might be surprised to see the Innova Sonic make the top 10, but there were some special editions released during this year that helped to boost those sells. Beyond that, these are all very familiar names that those who are close to disc golf shouldn’t be surprised to see make the top 10.

Now, here are our nominees for the best putter!

MVP Atom

The Putt and Approach category is what helped put MVP on the map, but the MVP Atom wasn’t released until a few years later and has become the most popular putter in their lineup. It has a very comfortable rim that seems to be the perfect middle ground between their two original putters, the Anode and Ion. The Atom offers a flight that is straight and reliable, and of course, MVP gives you its signature Gyro technology with the overmold on all of their discs.

Innova Aviar

This disc is a common first putter to own with the DX Aviar available at most sporting goods stores, but it is the McPro Aviar that has kept this mold at the top of the sales chart. It will be interesting to see how Innova brands that plastic blend next year with Paul McBeth leaving. Either way, the Aviar is a beadless putter that offers a straight and reliable flight that is great for disc golfers of all skill levels.

Latitude 64 Dagger

The Latitude 64 Dagger is the tallest putter on the market, which allows for a nice glide. The large bead and “deep dish” might make the Dagger a little harder for smaller hands, and it is an adjustment for golfers used to pretty much any other putter, but those who learn to use it can be lethal with long range putts (just ask Raptor Legs Ricky…).

Axiom Envy

The Axiom Envy is a slightly overstable putter that flirts with the line between approach and putting putters, this putter has a flatter top and of course the gyro technology overmold. The Envy like the Dagger, is not your typical putter, but those who take the time to practice with it enjoy the way it feels in their hand and the way it performs on the course.

Dynamic Discs Judge

The Dynamic Discs Judge has become one of the standards of the Putt and Approach category since its release in 2012. The Judge is a beaded putter that has a comfortable height that is perfect for all hand sizes and ages. The Judge is a straight flying putter that is very predictable and easy to learn to use.

Discmania P2

The Discmania P2 has been on the market for over 10 years, but recently it has become one of the best selling discs in the world regardless of category. The P2 is a popular approach putter as well as putting putter. It is a tall, beadless disc that offers a very comfortable grip and predictable, straight flight. Discmania does a good job as well of differentiating the different plastic blends and the benefits of each blend. But regardless of plastic type, the P2 offers a flight that offers something for disc golfers of all skill levels.

Latitude 64 Pure

The Latitude 64 Pure is another unique putter that has a strong following among those who use it. It is a shallow, beadless, and understable putter that feels just a bit different when compared to other putters. The small and short rim might be uncomfortable for players with larger hands, and the understable flight is not ideal for the wind, but in the right conditions this disc flies true to its name–pure. The Pure goes straight for a long time, making it great for longer putts.

Dynamic Discs Warden

The Warden is another standard in the Dynamic Discs family. The Warden‘s mold is basically a beadless Judge that flies just as straight and just as consistently. If you have tried the Judge and decided you like it but the bead isn’t for you, then you shouldn’t skip a beat switching to the Warden. And of course, vice-versa.

Gateway Wizard

The Wizard has been doing it for over 15 years, and has become the “old reliable” in the putters category. It has an average to slightly taller height and a beaded rim that fits great for all ages and hand sizes. The Wizard is a straight flying putter that can be lethal from distance as well. Gateway has also done a great job of making the Wizard available in LOTS of plastic blends. So from Firm to Really Freakin’ Flexible or anywhere in between, you should be able to find a Wizard that is right for you.

THE INFINITE DISCS BEST DISC GOLF PUTTER of 2018

GATEWAY WIZARD

This might be our most debatable selection so far, but the Wizard has been a popular choice for disc golfers for years. The Wizard is a great disc that covers just about everything you need in a putter, and when you add in the fact that it is available in a plethora of plastic blends, there is a Wizard for just about everyone. You don’t see the top sponsored pros throwing the Wizard much due to Gateway being a smaller fish in the sponsorship market, but when you take a look back in time to what some of the big names were throwing before they got manufacturer’s sponsorship, a lot of them were putting with the Wizard. For example, Kevin Jones, who just announced he will be throwing Prodigy Disc equipment in 2019, was a big proponent of the Pure White Wizard during the 2018 season.

2019 Team Infinite Application

NickLopezTeamInfinite

We are looking to expand our team for 2019!

  • Are you a fan of the Infinite Discs brand?
  • Are you a good example in the disc golf community?
  • Do you regularly play in or promote disc golf tournaments?
  • Are you active in online disc golf communities?
  • Are you a really good disc golfer who would like additional exposure for your brand, a signature disc, and more perks for mastering disc golf?

If you answer YES to several of these questions, you may be eligible for our team.

We are looking for disc golfers all over the United States that will help us promote Infinite Discs and the sport of disc golf. You don’t need to be a 1000+ rated professional to apply, we also want enthusiastic amateurs, tournament directors and other ambassadors of the sport.

What does it mean to be on Team Infinite?

Well, for one, it means you are awesome. We are building a sponsorship based on reciprocal exchange, sort of a “You scratch our back, we’ll scratch yours.” The perks you receive will be based on how well you promote our brand.

  • Team Pack: “Team Infinite” Shirts, Infinite Stamped discs, bag tag, towels, mini marker discs and other accessories.
  • A personalized 5% discount code, which you can share with your friends, family and those you meet on the course.
  • Large Discounts on personal purchases (based on your PDGA rating).
  • Extra help and sponsorship from Infinite Discs when you run leagues and tournaments.
  • Member of the TEAM Facebook page where you interact with other team members and can provide input and insight on new products and news happening at Infinite Discs.
  • Potential Paid Tournament registrations for accomplishing goals.
  • Renewal Bonus– TBD. There will be additional perks if you fulfill our requirements and continue being an Infinite sponsored player after re-evaluation.

Requirements

  • Have an up-to-date Infinite Profile. This includes posting scores, writing course and disc reviews, and helping test our app as we continue to update and improve it. Please do not submit a team application until your Infinite Profile is updated (make sure to include a picture and detailed biography).
  • You must participate in at least 12 disc golf events each year including: PDGA events, unsanctioned tournaments, instructional clinics, or anything else where you will be able to interact with a large number of fellow disc golfers.
  • Take pictures at your disc golf events and post them on social media. Use the hash tags #TeamInfinite and #InfiniteDiscs. It’s fun to see what all of our team members are up to! Take pictures of scenery, great shots, your group, or other Team Infinite members.
  • You cannot post your discount code publicly or share online. We understand that you may not be able to control what others do with your code, so we won’t punish you if it gets publicized. If we do find a discount code posted online, we will destroy the code and issue you a new one.
  • Represent the sport in a professional manner. We hope that you will know what this means, but if you’re worried or have any questions, contact the team captain(s) for more information.
  • Interact with our social media pages– Share on Facebook, comments on our posts, re-tweet, etc. when it makes sense to do so. The more you interact with our marketing efforts, the more it benefits us and helps your friends to see that you are part of Team Infinite.

Do I qualify for Team Infinite?

The main things we are looking for:

  • Role models in the disc golf community who actively work to grow disc golf.
  • Regular participation in disc golf events and tournaments.
  • Social media presence
  • Willingness to promote Infinite Discs

It also helps (but is not required) if you have some skills on the disc golf course and regularly place well in tournaments.

We want our team to be full of disc golfers from all walks of life, from all over the country, and of all sorts of ages and skill levels.

2018 Christmas Gift Ideas for Disc Golfers

  • Every year at Infinite Discs we try to put together a unique, fun list of gift ideas for disc golfers. Let’s take a look at the 2018 holiday ideas that we feel would please any disc golfer…

Discs!

Of course, no disc golf will turn down more discs for the holidays. But where do you start if you don’t know which specific discs they need in their bag? You might as well get something that is fun to throw and collectible, or that shares a little holiday spirit. That way, whether they throw it, or keep it as a memento, they’ll be happy. Here are a few holiday discs you might consider:

FULL FOIL BUZZZ — The most popular midrange disc is the Discraft Buzzz and this year they’ve unleashed a huge selection of Buzzz discs with beautiful FULL FOIL designs (full color images on foil that covers the entire top of the disc). You can even get Star Wars licensed full foil discs now, along with several bee themed, limited edition discs. What disc golfer wouldn’t want a shiny, colorful disc as a gift?

TAKE A LOOK AT THEM HERE

HOLIDAY EDITION DISCS — Several different brands make holiday edition discs. We have a lot of discs that were released as Halloween discs if your disc golfer prefers more of a spooky edge, no matter what time of year it is. Or, if you want a “Happy Holidays” disc from Legacy, or a “Naughty and Nice” Teebird3 from Innova, we’ve got them.

You can BROWSE THE HOLIDAY SELECTION HERE and filter by brand or disc type to find exactly what you like among the holiday editions.

DISC DEALS BOXES

    • — One of the most popular gift ideas purchased during the holiday season, without fail, is the Infinite Deals Box. These are 7-disc package sets with a variety of different disc models from different brands, including stock stamps, tournament stamps, misprints, and more. It is a great value and an adventurous way to give a pile of discs to a player so that they can try them out and possibly find some new favorites! We have four different Deals Box sizes to choose from:

MYTH 10-DISC PUTTER PACK — We also have a selection available of 10-Disc MYTH Putter packs. The MYTH is a slick, beaded putter by Infinite Discs, and we’ve had so many customers ask for bulk packs of putters that we made these as a way for people to get a lot of practice putters for a very low price. Why do disc golfers need so many putters? Because putting is one of the most important parts of the game, and it is easier to practice when you’ve got a big pile by your side.

LARGE GIFT ITEMS

If you want to impress your disc golfer for the holidays, hit them with a big ticket item that they will love but might not have felt ready to purchase on their own.  These are our favorite ideas…

ROVIC DISC GOLF CART — One of the newest disc golf carts this year is the ROVIC RV1D which was altered by a golf card company to handle the demands and needs of disc golfers. It puts the disc golfer’s bag on wheels and provides extra storage space for additional accessories. It also folds into a more compact size for storage and transport to the disc golf course. It comes in a few color combinations.

ZUCA CART — One of the most popular disc golf carts for the frequent disc golfer is the Zuca cart which is built to carry a maximum quantity of discs, provides a place to sit during long rounds, and carries a variety of accessories. There are also many other features which can be added to the Zuca cart, like padded seat cushions, more drink holders, putter pouches, and more. There are color combinations available for any taste.

PORTABLE PRACTICE BASKETS — Any disc golf would be utterly impressed by their own, portable disc golf practiced basket. There are a wide variety of baskets available on the market by a lot of different manufacturers, all with the intent to provide an easy way for players to practice in their yard, set up small courses, or take with them on camping trips, etc. Here are some of the newest and most popular options:

Black Hole Pro with Transit Bag — The Black Hole Pro is a very popular practice basket by MVP and this year they’ve added a Transit Bag as an easy way to carry the broken-down basket from place to place.

Discraft Chainstar Lite — This is one of the newer portable baskets that is high quality with a few different color options to choose from. For your $150 range, this is one of the best options.

Mach Shift 3-in-1 Portable Basket — This new basket offering from DGA is unique because it can be changed from a standard size that has double-layered chains, to a narrow putting practice basket, to a macro-basket for an even smaller target. For those who want to spend a little more for a variety of configurations, it is the perfect choice.

DGA Mach Lite — This is our favorite and by far the best-selling collapsible basket. It is easily folded and transported inside a shoulder carry case, yet is very sturdy and well constructed. This year it was released in orange and green as new color options.

Discatcher Sport — This portable basket by Innova has sold a lot at the end of the year because it has been steeply discounted. Quantities are running low, so it is one of those “get it while it is cheap” deals that may not last through the end of the year.

ADIDAS TERREX SHOES

One of the newest items in our inventory at Infinite Discs this year is a nice selection of sturdy, high-quality disc golf shoes by Adidas Terrex brand. These are light weight, but sturdy outdoor shoes that were designed for handling all kinds of terrain, whether mountainous or groomed parks. They are also able to handle a lot of side-to-side torque that is inflicted upon the shoes of disc golfers when throwing discs at high speeds. The soles are high quality and very long-lasting, plus you can get the most popular models with GTX for extra waterproofing against rain or dew-covered grass so your feet don’t get wet. We’ve selected what we believe are the best shoes for disc golfers from the huge Terrex line.

AX2R — one of the most popular and least expensive options

AX2R GTX — the waterproof version of the popular AX2R

SWIFT R2 — a higher-end shoe that pro disc golfers have loved

SWIFT R2 GTX — the waterproof version of the awesome Swift R2

AGRAVIC GTX — the highest quality shoe we carry, with a long-lasting construction, waterproofing, and “boost” technology for extreme comfort when worn for long periods

AGRAVIC SPEED — the most lightweight option for fast movers and travel light but want comfort

1-YEAR MEMBERSHIP IN THE VIP CLUB

One of the most exciting things you can give to any hard-core disc golfer or disc collector is a one-year membership in the Infinite Discs VIP Club.  That way, the disc golfer you love will receive a unique, collectible disc every month, automatically, as well as discounts on the Infinite Discs website and access to exclusive releases in the VIP Club Store.

SIGN UP FOR THE MEMBERSHIP HERE (select the pre-paid annual option, or pay month-to-month for as long as you want)

MID-RANGE BUDGET ITEMS

Maybe you don’t have a huge budget, but you want to get your favorite disc golfer something nice that is under $100. Here are a few fun ideas that will fit the bill…

Infinite Disc Slinger Bag — The Infinite Disc Slinger is designed for affordability, ease, and comfort for quick disc golf rounds. It provides a quality bag option for beginners as well as experienced players who simply want to grab a dozen discs and hit the course. This is the perfect crossover between traditional shoulder bags and backpacks. You can throw it over your shoulder (the strap can be adjusted for whichever shoulder you prefer), carried in your hand, or slung across your body like popular sling bags.  It is available in black or blue.

Infinite Stealth Bag with Water Bladder — The Infinite Stealth Bag includes both a Stealth Bag and the 2.0 liter water bladder. This is the perfect solution for hot rounds on rugged terrain where you want to carry light but still keep hydrated. Never worry about the extra fluids when you’re in the middle of a long round, and don’t worry about lugging around a lot of weight. This bag is designed to travel light and fast.

Large Selection of Apparel — Whether you’re looking for t-shirts, or sweatshirts, or jackets, or hats, there is a huge selection of apparel options from many brands on the Infinite Discs website. These choices fit any taste of budget. Check out those apparel options HERE.

GRIP6 Belts — One of the hottest new apparel items for disc golfers this year has been the Grip6 line of belts. These are long-lasting, flexible belts that provide comfort as well as dependability. They are designed to last a lifetime. They come in several colors with different style buckles. You can pick a specific waist size, or you can select the “own size” option where an extra long belt can be cut and prepped for your own, specific size.

DiscDiver Retriever — There is one thing certain, when it comes to the game of disc golf….if there is water present on the course, the discs will find their way into that water. The DiscDiver Golden Retriever is designed to help disc golfers drag the bottom of those pesky ponds and lakes to retrieve their lost discs. These are excellent tools that almost every disc golfer wishes they had at one point or another. These is also the slightly altered Disc Claw which accomplishes the mission nicely.

Trooper Backpack — One of the most popular entry-level backpacks comes from Dynamic Discs. The Trooper has been a top seller for any player who wants an inexpensive yet comfortable backpack to carry their discs around the course. Thought it doesn’t come with a lot of extra features, it covers all of the baskets and is perfect for players who have over a dozen discs and want a way to carry them inexpensively.

Disc Golf Books — While there haven’t traditionally been a lot of books available for disc golfers, we’ve been hunting some down. They always make an interesting, less expected gift. The newest addition to our small book selection is the new DISC GOLF REVOLUTION by Jack Tupp.

This is a book that presents disc golf’s irrefutable case as the ideal sport for the 21st century. If you see yourself as part of the ‘Grow the Sport’ movement, The Disc Golf Revolution is for you. Keep it on hand and give copies as a gifts to those who needs to know the full story.

STOCKING STUFFERS

These small items would be fun for little gifts to any disc golfer. They don’t take a lot of space, they aren’t expensive, and they can add a little fun to your Christmas morning…

Pro Tour Trading Cards — These fun cards are a great surprise for any fan of professional disc golf. There are 9-card booster packs as well as 65-card decks and they carry a mixed variety of cards featuring the top professional players, top courses, and top disc golf awards. Plus they can be traded with other pro disc golf fans to build a complete collection. You can buy several boosters to pass around to all of the disc golfers in your life.

Disc Golf Towels — Towels are frequently needed by disc golfers to keep their discs dry, and we’ve got a variety of different towels, from lightweight to thick and absorbent. They can easily be stuffed into any stocking.

Pyrohyzer Glass Mini Discs — Another fun product that Infinite Discs started carrying this year is the unique glass mini discs by Pyrohyzer. Each mini is handmade and entirely unique. The prices vary depending on the amount of extra features, like “shatter” patterns, swirls, glow-in-the-dark, and etching. Though these glass minis are nice enough to display, they can be used as mini markers during disc golf rounds. They’re definitely a top-notch gift idea that fits into the stocking.  Also available in MICRO MINI sizes.

Stress Mini / Knee Pad Mini — These unique mini markers were designed to take away your stress before or after putting by squeezing them to your heart’s content. They squash into your hand but are sized just right for marking your disc’s lie. But they’ve also become quite popular as knee pads during rounds when players need to kneel on the hard ground to put from under a tree or out of shrubs, etc. Thus they have become a multi-purpose mini disc. Plus, they fly nicely too if you want to play a fun indoor or outdoor came of catch.

Whale Sac — These little, hand-sized bags are filled with clay to help players dry their hands during disc golf rounds, particularly when it is hot and fingers can lose a grip on the disc. While there are many similar grip-enhancing bags like this on the market, the Whale Sac has been one of the most popular because they are produced by professional disc golfers, and they feature a cool “tail” to use for tying them onto a bag, backpack, or cart.

Pocket Discs — Every year we see an increase in sales for Pocket Discs because they are such a fun little idea for disc enthusiasts to throw around the house. They fit in the stocking, or in a pocket, and are hand-woven as a floppy, soft, catch-and-throw disc. There is a regular sized indoor pocket disc for $9.99, or a larger, heavier “El Grande” pocket disc for $19.99 if you want more distance and higher performance.

Friction Gloves — While these might appear to be somewhat expensive gloves at first glance, they are actually worth every dollar for disc golfers who want to play when it is cold outside. They take the bite out of the cold air, but more importantly, they provide extra grip on the disc, even when the plastic is wet. That way, disc golfers can play in the gold without taking gloves off to throw and putting them back on again to warm up. If you don’t want to buy a pair of the Friction Gloves, they are also sold separately for single hands, so that the throwing hand can have the enhanced grip.

GIFT CARDS

Of course, if you’re out of ideas, or you simply prefer to let your disc golfer pick their own discs or accessories, you can count on gift cards. Infinite Discs has two options for gift cards:

E-GIFT CARD — Delivers a code to the specified email address which can be used to purchase product on the website.

PHYSICAL GIFT CARD — We ship a plastic gift card to you so that you can wrap it, put it in a stocking, or hand it to the recipient.

WE WANT YOUR INPUT

Please post in the comments below about your ideas as ideal gifts for disc golfers. We’d love to know, and there are other shoppers out there who are looking for great ideas.

We randomly selected a winner for a PyroHyzer trophy disc from the comments. Congratulations, Blain, for the win!

Thanks!

Four New Discs Approved for Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs

As we look forward to 2019, we are excited to see what new molds are released! Lucky for us, we can take a sneak peak at four new molds from Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs. These molds were all PDGA approved in November 2018 and are set to release in 2019. Let’s take a look!

Latitude 64 Recoil

PDGA Approved: Nov. 23, 2018

Latitude 64 Recoil Distance Driver

The Recoil has also been announced on Latitude 64’s website, giving us a little more information on the disc. The Recoil has flight ratings of 12, 4, 0, 3. Latitude 64’s description says that it will be a comfortable disc to throw with reliable fade at the end of the flight.

Latitude 64 Pioneer

PDGA Approved: Nov. 23, 2018

Latitude 64 Pioneer Fairway Driver

The Pioneer is a new fairway/control driver announced by Latitude 64. They give it flight ratings of 9, 3, 0, 4. These are the same flight ratings as the Firebird, one of Innova’s most popular overstable fairway drivers. Latitude says this disc will have a very flat top, making it a perfect choice for sidearm throws. This disc also compares closely to the Felon – Dynamic Disc’s overstable and flat fairway driver. We’re excited to see how it flies!

Dynamic Discs Guard

PDGA Approved on Nov. 4, 2018

The Guard was PDGA approved recently, but not a lot of other information has been announced about it yet. The dimensions of the Guard can help tell a story, though. It has very similar dimensions to the popular Judge. The Guard is just a touch smaller in diameter, a tiny bit taller, and has a slightly skinnier rim. This leads us to believe this will be a new putter, but that is all we know at this time!

Dynamic Discs Vandal

PDGA Approved on Nov. 4, 2018

The Vandal is another disc that has been approved by the PDGA, but not announced by Dynamic Discs. A look at the dimensions tells us at it is likely a new fairway driver around speed 8. This is due to the rim thickness being the same as the Witness and Thief. Again, not much is known at this time, but we’re excited to get this in our hands!

On a more controversial side note: The Vandal is the name of a prototype Legacy Discs mid-range mold. In 2018 some samples of the Legacy Discs Vandal had been floating around, but the disc was never PDGA approved. Unfortunately, to be PDGA approved, two discs can not have the same name, so Dynamic Discs might have beat Legacy to the punch.

TOP TWENTY TUESDAY – DECEMBER 4TH 2018

Infinite Discs is happy to present the weekly blog post called TOP TWENTY TUESDAY where we let you know about the short-term sales trends for discs. We’ll show the sales figures from the previous Tuesday through the most recent Monday.

New discs will often spike in the chart as other top sellers shuffle spots. It can be fun to see which discs keep up the pace. These will also be broken down by plastic types, so the same model can show up in multiple plastics.

THIS REPORT INCLUDES THE SALES FROM BLACK FRIDAY SALES – TWO WEEKS OF DISC SALES.  Here we go…
The chart covering the last two weeks of sales at Infinite Discs is HIGHLY influenced by Black Friday deals that carried through an entire week of sales and special disc releases. The Star Destroyer held the number one spot with several special edition stamps on black Destroyers released on Black Friday. The 2nd place spot goes to the Metal Flake Glow C-Blend Pharaoh which really got a lot of love with the cool combination of colored glow and metal flake in the plastic blend, plus the XXL stamp designed by Thought Space Athletics. In a strong 3rd place showing was the limited run of BT Hard Burst Moonshine (glow) MAIDEN putters– a run that was made especially for Infinite Discs. The original Origio Burst Maiden also had a great showing at #7, showing that this latest putter from Westside disc has been a big attention-grabber since it was featured in the 2018 Trilogy Challenge tournaments.

Also with big showings due to special editions, the C-Line Luster FD and Glow C-Line P2 discs from Discmania were a big hit, as were the special run of Swirly ESP Flash discs– an older Discraft mold that many players have been missing since it was discontinued. The Stego by Reptilian Disc Gold and the full-color Twin Swords by Yikun made strong showings for smaller brands. Infinite Discs also saw the new release of the C-Blend RA with the XXL stamp his #8 and the Vision C-Blend (full color) SLAB hit the number #11 spot with its dramatic stamp image which was placed to leave a grip edge around the outside top of the flight plate.

–> Each week we’ll invite you to leave a prediction for a certain chart position on next week’s TOP TWENTY TUESDAY report. The first three people to predict that chart position correctly in the comments will win a $15 gift card for the Infinite Discs website.

WINNER! – We didn’t get a lot of guesses for this week’s #2 position, but we do have a winner. Garrett Colwell declared “Metal flake pharaoh all the way up!” and that is close enough to “Metal Flake Glow C-Blend Pharaoh” that we’re handing him the win. Congratulations Garrett!

GIFT CARD PREDICTION FOR NEXT WEEK:  Leave your comment below this blog to predict the #5 spot for next week’s “Top Twenty Tuesday” chart.  Have fun!

The Discmania MD5 MidRange Disc

To wrap up the 2018 year, Discmania released the MD5 mid-range. While it has become common for mid-range discs to have a wider diameter than longer drivers, the trend in 2018 was to release smaller diameter mid-range discs, particularly more overstable discs. The MD5 is one of those smaller diameter, overstable mid-range discs, and it is a very precise one.

Released with a “First Run” stamp as well as with a stock stamp, the MD5 joined the ranks of similar discs released during the 2018 year– perhaps most closely related to the Innova Caiman. It has a profile quite similar to a Caiman, but in flight it does not get quite as much distance.  Rather than a smooth, drawn-out fade, the MD5 has the tendency to drop its edge and fade steeply out of the sky once velocity is lost. That provides a dramatic and precise overstable fade for great accuracy when thrown by experienced players.

It is not a disc that would be friendly to beginners, but is designed for experienced players who are looking for an easily controlled, short-range, overstable mid. Where discs like the Dynamic Discs Justice used to stand out in this category, Discmania has added to their lineup with this strong contender in the MD5.

  • Speed: 5.0
  • Glide: 3.0
  • Turn: 0.0
  • Fade: 4.0

Other End-of-Year Plastic Releases by Discmania

Also to end the 2018 year, Discmania released a couple of runs of their most popular discs in fun, premium plastics. While this is not the first time these discs have been run in these plastics, they are getting a lot of love from Discmania fans. The available of these discs in these plastics is sporadic, so it is good to grab them while they are available. It is hard to know when the next run will come.

C-Line Luster FD – Straight Fairway Driver in durable, creamy translucent plastic
