Best Disc Golf Training Devices

A disc golfer putting at a basket

When you see your PDGA rating rise to new levels, or if you  find yourself setting new personal records on your local course, or maybe when you find yourself on the podium more often at tournaments, if feels great to know that you are progressing in the sport. Playing a lot is one way to improve our game. Another way which helps us even faster is by training. In this blog we will look at the best disc golf training devices to find out which ones will help you.

Disc golf training accessories help us get the reps in more frequently, leading to sharper skills and better form. Here are some of the best training devices:

The MVP Pod V2 Disc Holder

1 – MVP Pod V2 – Since you will be putting on a majority of all holes that you play, it makes sense to making putting a regular part of your overall practice regime. Practicing putts is not the most fun thing in the world, so it’s nice to make the most of the time we will be putting. One way to improve our practice efficiency is to have the putters within easy reach. The Pod meets that need nicely!

The MVP Pod V2 is a metal stand that holds a stack of putters to you don’t have to be bending down to pick them up, nor do you have to hold a stack while you try to maintain good form. It’s called the ‘V2’ because this version of the Pod comes with two 3” extension poles to hole even more discs. The Pod V2 holds 26 putters and even more drivers, for when you’re doing field work.

In addition to holding a lot of discs, the Pod is easy to transport. It comes apart or sets up in minutes, so you can take it to a field or practice basket with ease. Its all-metal construction means it will hold up to transporting and use for many years.

Visionary Practice Net

A Visionary disc golf practice net

2 – Visionary Practice Net – The best way to improve your form is through regular practice and field work. Often times it is inconvenient to find an empty field big enough to throw distance drivers. That’s where a practice net really shines.

Visionary nets are specifically designed for disc golf discs. They have a return channel that catches the discs and collects them for easy retrieval. If you want to take full-power shots in your backyard or garage, these nets are perfect for you.

The nets come in a couple different sizes, from single-thrower to larger nets that allow several people to throw at once. All of them feature the patent pending return channel, with the bigger nets having multiple channels.

While the obvious reason for getting a net is so you can practice your drives, there is another reason to invest in this practice tool. They are also perfect for putting practice. A net set up behind your basket will stop any errant putts and make gathering them that much faster. Your putting sessions will be more efficient and you can spend more time putting than chasing discs. If you combine an MVP Pod V2 and a net, before long you’ll be putting like a pro!

ProPull Disc Golf Trainer

The propull disc golf elastic band trainer

3 – Propull Disc Golf Trainer – If you’re looking for a way to warm up before a round or keep your form in good shape, you’ll want to consider the ProPull Disc Golf Trainer. The Trainer is a disc with hardware attached that allows you to go through the motions of a throw and feel resistance as you pull the disc. It comes with two elastic tubes for different levels of resistance.

The ProPull can be used indoor or outdoor. It has a strap that attaches to a tree or other object, and also comes with a strap that attaches to a door. The training product also has a safety strap in case the disc slips out of your hand.

Here is a YouTube Video featuring Infinite Discs own Dave Feldberg talking about the ProPull and its benefits, as well as how to use it.

Flightowel

Flightowel disc fob and towel

4 – Flightowel – Years ago I cut up an old disc and would hold the small section of it along with a towel, and use that to warm up. I liked it because I was gripping an actual rim and the towel offered a little resistance. I was thrilled when the Flightowel came to market because it was an even better version of the device that I made. It was cleaner and more effective product.

The Flightowel is a small portion of an actual disc and is attached to a towel with a strong cord. The discs are cut out of a variety of molds, so you can find the mold that you would like to warm up with. The towel has a small clever pocket that creates a little resistance when you go through the throwing motion. You simply grab the disc fob and go through the throwing motion. I do this regularly to warm up after a backup on the course, so I can keep my arm ready to throw.

Flightowels are made in America and come in a variety of towel and fob colors. They come labeled with the mold they were made from. Flightowels are available in left-hand and right-hand options.

Disc Dot

The Disc Dot putting aid

5– Disc Dot – The Disc Dot is a putting training tool designed to help you narrow your focus on the basket while putting. The device slips over a link on your practice basket and helps you focus on that point. By training our eyes and brains to aim for a single point, it increases our chances of making our putts. The basket seems much bigger after focusing on a tiny Dot.

Disc Dots come in a variety of colors, including glow in the dark. They are now made of recycled discs.

Chain Suppressor

The Chain Suppressor neoprene sleeve to keep baskets quiet

6 – Chain Suppressor – Having a basket around the house to practice putting is the best way to improve our putting and lower our scores. If the noise of the chains is preventing us from practicing as much as we should, then the Chain Suppressor is the perfect product for you. Whether you are concerned about being a noisy neighbor, or you have young kids that have a nap time, the Suppressor greatly reduces the chain noise that is usually music to our ears.

The Chain Suppressor is a neoprene sleeve that attaches directly to the pole to greatly reduce the noise made when the chains smack the pole during a putt. It can be easily removed for times when you want to hear the chains. It also has two yellow lines that you can use as an aiming aid.

Check out Chain Suppressors HERE

Basket Pole Holder

7 – Basket Pole Holder – Moving a basket from place to place can be problematic if the basket needs to be disassembled to move. The poles are difficult to keep with the basket and tend to roll around as you transport the basket. The last thing you need is a hassle moving the basket. The Basket Pole Holders are a pair of rubberized straps that keep the poles securely attached to the rest of the basket. Make your practice sessions more stress free with the Basket Pole Holders.

The NEW Axiom Pixel claimed an impressive presence last month, securing spots 2 through 7 among the top 50 best-selling molds. Moreover, the collective dominance of the Axiom and MVP brands extended further, encompassing the top 9 spots in total for February. This remarkable feat underscores the growing popularity and trust players place in these brands’ quality and performance, as well as an excitedment for the NEW Pixel putter.

One notable sale that caught our attention was the surge in sales of the Cloud Breaker. This uptick coincided with professional disc golfer Eagle McMahon’s transition away from Discmania as his primary sponsor. McMahon’s influence and endorsement power undoubtedly played a significant role in driving sales, highlighting the symbiotic relationship between top players and the brands they represent. This occurrence serves as a compelling example of how player endorsements can directly impact consumer behavior within the disc golf community.

Amidst the dominance of powerhouse brands and player endorsements, an intriguing outlier continues to emerge: the DX Leopard. Despite not being hailed as the epitome of disc design or innovation, the DX Leopard consistently maintains its presence among the top-selling molds. So, what accounts for its enduring popularity? W believe that the DX Leopard’s appeal lies in its forgiving flight characteristics and suitability for players of all skill levels. Whether you’re a novice honing your skills or a seasoned pro looking for a reliable turnover disc, the DX Leopard delivers consistent performance. But give us your thoughts in the comments!

This is how many times each brand appeared in the top 50 line-up –

Best Disc Golf Baskets of 2024

Banner - best disc golf baskets 2024

It is not uncommon as a disc golf retailer to get asked for basket recommendations. Having ready access to a basket (and using it) is one of the best possible ways for any disc golfer to improve their disc golf skills. So, which basket would be the best for you? Well, that depends on a few factors. Having owned a number of different baskets, I can safely say that there are certain baskets that are better for certain situations. In this blog we’ll look at those factors and determine the best baskets, which will help you narrow down your choices. We also want to hear from you at the end, and will be giving out gift cards to random commenters.

Best Basket For You

One of the first questions that I ask someone who is looking for a recommendation for a basket is how the basket will mainly be used. If you are going to be setting up the basket in your backyard and at most moving around your yard, your basket needs will be different than if you will be hauling it to the course and using it for a temp hole from time to time.

I’ll group the baskets according their general type. The baskets will be sorted by Economy Baskets, Cloth Baskets, High-end Home Baskets, Narrow Baskets and Course Baskets. Then I will list the best for each type.

Best Economy Baskets

This is an entry level type of basket that is great for a first basket, a basket on a budget, or if you just want a basket but don’t want to spend much money. This level of basket does not have the quality nor disc catching ability that a more expensive basket. However, you can still develop your putting skills as much on an economy basket as a more expensive basket.

1 – Divergent Discs Portable Basket

The Divergent Discs Portable Basket is a nice, inexpensive basket that is easy to set up. It comes in several vibrant colors so you can choose your favorite. The basket has two rows of 12 zinc-coated chains for durability and function. Check out this popular basket today!

Green Streamline Lite Basket 2 – Axiom Lite/Streamline Lite/Black Hole Lite

The Lite baskets from MVP/Streamline/Axiom are similar in design and function. The Black Hole Lite is available in black, while the Streamline and Axiom versions come in several different colors. All three brands have 26 chains for improved stopping power. They are lighter, less expensive versions of the Pro series. They all set up easily without tools.

3 – Black Hole Pro/Axiom Pro

The Pro Basket is a step up from the Lite in both cost and quality. MVP Black Hole Pro BasketThe quality of the welds, electroplating, and design combine to give you a upper-level quality at an entry-level price. The Pro basket has 24 chains in a pattern to help minimize chain outs and run throughs, to improve your confidence.

Best Cloth Baskets

Since portability is a major reason to purchase a basket, making the basket out of cloth will help make moving it around even easier. Cloth baskets fold up and are easy to carry. I’ve had my Mach Lite for nearly a decade and it still works fine.

1 – DGA Mach Lite

DGA Mach Lite Baskets

The design of the Mach Lite is impressive. It sets up in about a minute, and takes down in about the same. The included cloth bag makes it easy to transport. With the cloth basket you will make putts that you wouldn’t make on a metal basket, and run through the chains more, but if you’re looking for ease of transport, it’s worth it.

Innova Traveler Basket 2- Innova Traveler

If you like to practice putting and you have a bunch of putters, this is a basket to consider. It’s deep basket let’s you putt a dozen discs and they will sit deep enough that they won’t interfere with your putts. It is similar to the Mach Lite in its ability to catch discs, which isn’t the best. But since it is easy to haul around, that is a good trade off.

3 – Dynamic Discs Scout

Dynamic Discs Scout Basket

The chains on the Scout feel a little stiffer than the Mach Lite or the Traveler. If you have a fast putt, the chains will help stop your discs. If not, you may end up with more bounce outs than you would like. You definitely won’t have discs run through the chains. Like the other cloth baskets, the Scout sets up easily and at 24 pounds is easy to transport.

Best High-end Home Baskets

If you want to duplicate the performance of a course basket but don’t want to fork out the big bucks for one, these are some good baskets to consider. They are more durable and stop discs better than economy baskets. If you will be moving baskets around a lot these will hold up better. They usually still as easy to disassemble. If you are okay with the extra cost, these will last longer than cheaper baskets.

Black hole pro HD basket1- Axiom Pro HD/Black Hole Pro HD

Another step up from the Pro baskets, the Pro HD has additional features that bump it out of the economy range. It features thicker wire and heavier chains than the Pro. Naturally this makes it a little more difficult to carry around. Yet, it still disassembles in under a minute. Considering the quality improvements, this basket is not much more than the HD.

2- Innova Discatcher EZ

Innova DisCatcher EZ Basket

This high-end home basket features 24 hot-dip galvanized chains to catch your putts. It comes in three powder-coated colors to give you a little variety. It is designed to replicate the performance of a course basket, but at a much lower cost.

Innova Discatcher Sport 243- DisCatcher Sport 24

The DisCatcher Sport 24 is a high-quality basket that you can use at home for putting practice, and also as a temp basket on a course. It is easy to move around and set up. It features 18 chains in the outer row, and six on the inner. This is a good combination of disc stopping and run-through prevention. Requires a screwdriver for assembly/disassembly.

Check out all of Infinite Discs’ portable baskets HERE

Best Narrow Baskets

This genre of basket is designed to help you focus on a smaller target, then when you are playing on a regulation basket, it will seem bigger. I’ve had one in the past and I liked putting on it. I wouldn’t recommend one as a first basket. If you already have a regular basket, this would make a good second basket.

1- Dynamic Discs Marksman Lite

Dynamic Discs Marksman Lite Basket

This is a lighter and much less expensive basket than the Marksman. It has fewer chains and is lighter. It is still difficult to actually make it int the basket when putting. That’s kind of the point of this type of basket. Still, even fewer putts will stick in this basket vs the Marksman. If you’re okay with that then you’ll save quite a bit by going with this version of the Marksman.

MVP Black Hole Precision Basket2- Black Hole Precision

Like the other Black Hole baskets, the Precision is also easy to set up or take down – without tools. It has a single row of 12 chains in a narrow ring. The chains are course-weighted for more stopping power and fewer bounce outs.

3- ProBasket Skill

Latitude 64 ProBasket Skill Disc Golf Basket

The ProBasket Skill is a higher quality target basket at a higher price. It has 15 chains and will grab a few more putts than the other narrow baskets. If you are going to be moving the baskets around a lot, it would be worth it to have the more sturdy ProBasket. If not, save a few bucks and get one of the cheaper baskets.

Honorable Mention

Mach Shift 3-in-1 Basket

The Mach Shift 3-in-1 basket

The Mach Shift is a hybrid basket that converts from a regular sized basket to a narrow basket. And if you really want to hone your focus, it drops down to become a shorter narrow basket! It has pretty good disc stopping ability as a full-sized basket and should be considered as an option if you’re thinking about getting a narrow basket.

Best Course Baskets

These baskets are professional level portable baskets. They are heavy-duty, and heavy. If you want to mimic all of the benefits of a course basket at home, these are the baskets for you. You’ll get durability and disc-grabbing power. Plus, if you need to add a hole to an existing course, these baskets will fill in nicely.

1- Dynamic Discs Recruit

Dynamic Discs Recruit Basket

Weighing in at 60 pounds, you’ll be glad that the Dynamic Discs Recruit comes with a wheel on the base. It has 26 heavy-duty chains to grab your discs. With tools you can break down the basket for transport, and it will fit nicely in your trunk. This basket is great for putting practice because it performs just like a professional course basket.

Latitude 64 ProBasket Trainer Basket2- ProBasket Trainer

Approved for sanctioned tournaments up to B-Tier. The ProBasket Trainer has two rows of 13 chains each to catch and hold your putts. It is a top-tier basket that is similar to the best course baskets. The ProBasket comes apart for easier transport.

This blog gives you some ideas about the options available for you. By considering what you will be using the basket for, and how much you want to spend, you can pick a basket that will work for you. Beyond Plastic: Cultural Stories about Infinite Discs’ Discs

Beyond Plastic: Cultural Stories about Infinite Discs’ Discs

A prevalent trend among disc golf manufacturers and companies with their own line of discs is to adopt a naming system or thematic tone for their lineup. For example: Westside Discs molds are typically medieval-related names, Clash Discs name their molds after different food flavors/spices, and MVP uses electrical-related titles.

We (Infinite Discs) have chosen to use various ancient cultures from around the world to name our discs. This post is going to break down the various cultural names we use as inspiration, we will look at stamp artwork that reflects these cultures, and we will discuss what cultures we look forward to using in the future.

Starting at the beginning, the very first mold in the Infinite Discs lineup was named the Exodus and was first run in S-Blend plastic back in 2018. The word Exodus means an extensive departure of a people from one area to another. One of the most famous and well-known historical exoduses is the departure of the Israelites from Egypt to the “Promised Land.” This name was decided after we chose to focus on ancient Egyptian culture to name our discs going forward. Since then, we have branched out and chosen to include all varieties of ancient cultures in our theme.

EGYPTIAN CULTURE

Egyptian culture is believed to date back to the 31st century BCE. The ancient Egyptians are renowned for their contributions to art, architecture, sciences, and polytheistic belief systems, with elaborate temples and monumental structures like the Pyramids of Giza reflecting the centrality of religion which you see reflected on many of our stamps.

The molds that we associate with Egyptian Culture are as follows:

Here are some of our favorite stamps that follow the theme of this culture –

ROMAN/GREEK CULTURE

Roman and Greek cultures, collectively known as Greco-Roman civilization, have profoundly influenced the course of Western history. Ancient Greece birthed democracy, philosophy, and classical arts as well as excelled in architecture, literature, and sculpture. Ancient Rome is most known for their evolution into a formidable empire, therefore inspiring several of our mold names. Both cultures celebrated polytheistic religions, with Greek and Roman mythologies influencing art and literature.

The molds that we associate with Ancient Greco-Roman civilization are as follows:

Here are some of our favorite stamps that follow the theme of this culture –

SOUTHERN AMERICAN CULTURE: MAYAN, INCA & AZTEC

Despite their geographical separation and distinct historical timelines, the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations shared certain characteristics such as advanced agricultural practices, complex social structures, and polytheistic religious beliefs. However, each had unique cultural achievements and political organizations that contributed to their individual legacies.

  • Maya: Known for their advanced knowledge in astronomy, mathematics, and hieroglyphic writing. Built impressive city-states with temples and pyramids.
  • Aztec: Renowned for their military prowess, impressive architecture, and the complex social structure. Their artistic expressions included intricate codices and sculptures.
  • Inca: Famed for their extensive road network, advanced agricultural terracing, and skillful stonework in constructions like Machu Picchu.

Each of these cultures has a disc in the Infinite line up with it’s own name represented. We also include the Alpaca as part of this cultural theme, as each of these cultures relied heavily on these amazing creatures for food and clothing materials.

Here are some of our favorite stamps that follow the theme of this culture –

ASIAN DYNASTY CULTURE

Ancient Asian dynasties were characterized by rich and diverse cultures that significantly shaped the history of the continent. These ancient Asian dynasties reflected an intricate tapestry of philosophies, arts, and scientific achievements, leaving enduring legacies that continue to influence the cultural landscape of Asia today.

Currently, we only have the Dynasty as part of this cultural identity. But we are continuing to work on creating several other molds that fall under this cultural influence.

Here are some of our favorite stamps that follow the theme of this culture –

We’d like to highlight that a number of our molds can be associated with various cultures based on the stamps selected for different production runs. For instance, the Tomb and the Emperor were not initially intended to be part of the Asian Dynasty culture. However, as evident from these stamps below, they share some connection with this cultural theme.

SPANIARD & EXPLORER CULTURE

Ancient Spanish culture, with its roots in a diverse history shaped by various civilizations, has contributed significantly to the cultural tapestry of Europe. The Spanish Golden Age, marked by flourishing arts and literature, colonial expansion, and contributing to the blend of cultures defines this culture.

One of our most recently released molds, the Galleon, begins to cover this culture as a GALLEON is a large, heavily armed sailing ship that was used primarily by European states from the 16th to the 18th century and played a significant role in the exploration and colonization of the Americas.

A CONQUEROR is an individual or entity that successfully overcomes and subdues others, typically through force, skill, or strategy. This is our most recently released mold, and is currently in Signature Halo S-Blend plastic and soon to be Swirly S-blend.

ANCIENT CULTURE RELATED

The following molds don’t fall under any specific cultural category, but do fall under each category as an integral part of ancient cultures.

SLAB: A slab is a flat, thick piece or slice of material, often rectangular in shape. This term is commonly used in construction and architecture to describe a broad, horizontal surface, such as a concrete slab (that’s where our plastic name comes from) and other ancient structures like temples and pyramids.

RUIN: Ruin refers to the state of decay, destruction, or disintegration of something that was once complete, prosperous, or structurally sound. It can apply to physical structures, such as buildings or monuments, as well as abstract concepts like relationships or plans. As we look back on these ancient cultures, we see much ruin as their once glorious palaces, colosseum, and pyramids are beginning to decay.

RAZE: To raze is to utterly obliterate or demolish, usually in the context of structures, buildings, or entire settlements. Historically, scholars assert that war and conflict were prevalent in nearly all ancient cultures, suggesting that instances of razing likely occurred with some frequency.

MYTH: A myth is a traditional or sacred narrative that explains the beliefs, customs, practices, or natural phenomena of a society. Myths often involve supernatural beings, gods, heroes, and legendary events, serving as cultural stories that convey moral or spiritual lessons. We see that each ancient civilization discussed here had some sort of myth/legend that was passed down through the generations.

CZAR: A czar historically refers to a title used for the emperors or monarchs of Russia. In a more general sense, the term “czar” is sometimes used metaphorically to refer to a person with significant authority or control over a particular area or aspect, such as a “drug czar” overseeing anti-drug efforts.

SCEPTER: A scepter is an ornamental staff or rod, often made of precious materials and adorned with symbolic embellishments. It is a symbol of authority, sovereignty, or rulership and is traditionally associated with royalty, monarchs, or other high-ranking figures. Crowns, attire, and scepters are just a few of the ways that people would be able to recognize who was in charge of that group of individuals or an entire nation.

KON-TIKI: The name for this disc does not have a clear cultural relation, nor a clear description of what it means. This disc was named before our Creative Director was brought on and during a time where the naming process was more random. However, several interpretations can be made for this name. 1. The Kon-Tiki was a raft used for a famous expedition led by Norwegian explorer and ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl where him and his crew sailed the Kon-Tiki from South America to the Polynesian islands. 2. Large stone heads have been refered to by tourtist as Kon-tiki’s, but are not general known by that name in any cultural significance. Therefore, we can place this disc name under Polynesian culture, which you my see us work more on in the future.

ARE ALIENS REAL???

We find it important to talk about our small use of an Alien theme that weaves it way into several of our cultural stamps. The belief in extraterrestrial influence on ancient civilizations is a popular one. Extraterrestrial guidance suggests that advanced beings from outer space may have played a role in shaping the development of early human societies. The concept of extraterrestrial influence on ancient cultures remains a topic of debate and speculation and we believe it is a fun and creative way to include these views into our artwork.

HOW DO WE CHOOSE DISC NAMES?

Over the years, there have been several means by which a disc is named. But as of 2 years ago, we now have an Infinite Discs Brand Manager and Creative Director who is in charge of ordering every run of discs, choosing and editing artwork, and has the final say when naming discs. Our entire team discusses a host of name options, but our Creative Director has the final say.

Additionally, If you notice, all of our Distance Drivers are strong names (Conqueror, Emperor…). We wanted to be sure to show that something so overstable as an Emperor should have a strong name.

WHAT MOLDS DO YOU HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO?

2024 is going to be an AMAZING year for some new releases! We currently have a new putter, mid-range, and possibly a fairway driver in the works. Feel free to drop a comment below with your name suggestions! Make sure it falls under one of our cultural identities, or give us a new cultural identity we haven’t thought of yet!

We hope you enjoy our line up of discs as much as we do!

And as always…

Love what you throw, and throw what you love

Best Disc Golf Plastics

Disc tote holding a variety of different disc golf plastics.

As disc golf grows in popularity, so does the choices of molds and plastics. The type of plastic we choose for our discs has a big impact on the flight of the disc. Not only do different plastic types directly affect the stability and flight, but the feel of the plastic can affect our grip and confidence. In this blog we will talk about the best plastics in several different categories.

Plastic Characteristics

If you look at any disc on Infinite’s website, you’ll see a graph for each plastic type. The graph rates three characteristics of that particular plastic, and those three may make a difference as to whether we buy the plastic or not. Those three characteristics are Durability, Softness, and Grip. Those qualities will help us as we discuss the best plastics for each category that we will explore. Let’s find the best plastics!

Best Disc Golf Plastic For Drivers

Discs featuring Innova Star plastic, the most popular disc golf plastic.

When we reach for our drivers, we are more likely to be going for distance and throwing with more power. That means we will be hitting objects harder, and a more durable plastic would be preferable. However, durability is a double-edge sword when it comes to drivers. An extremely durable plastic will give you a longer life and once its broke in it will keep that flight for a long time. On the other hand, it may take a long time to break in, leaving you with a less than desirable flight. Overall, a durable premium plastic is desirable in a driver. That is why there are so many durable plastics in the top 5.

One exception is DX plastic. DX is a base plastic that beats in quickly. It is inexpensive, making it a great choice for beginners, or people wanting to try new molds. Although it does get seasoned quickly, it can also get too beat in, making it flippy.

Here are the top five best plastics for drivers:

  1. Star – This popular plastic comes in a variety of colors and molds. It is durable and has an amazing feel.
  2. ESP
  3. Neutron
  4. I-Blend
  5. DX

Best Plastic For Putters

Purple MVP Glitch in Neutron Soft plastic

When looking at the most popular plastic for putters, you get two different grip extremes. Softer, grippier plastics are great for short range putting due to their ability to ‘grab’ the chains. However, stiffer plastics are great for driving or approach shots. Here are the top five plastics for putters:

  1. Neutron – Some of our best-selling approach discs come in Neutron plastic. It is a durable plastic, and the overmold adds another layer of durability.
  2. D-Blend
  3. DX
  4. P-Blend Glow
  5. ESP

Best Plastics For Dyeing

Disc golf plastic good for custom disc dyes

Disc dyeing is a popular activity among disc golfers. It allows the dyer to unleash their creativity and end up with a unique disc. There are many different methods for dyeing a disc, but the goal is the same: to get the dye into the disc. They type of plastic used makes a huge difference in the results of a dye. In this category, premium plastics rule the day. Base plastics can be dyed, but the results are never as good as dyeing premium plastics.

Here are the best plastics for dyeing discs:

  1. Star – A white Star disc will give the best results from dyeing. It makes colors pop and resists bleeding.
  2. ESP
  3. S-Blend
  4. Prodigy 400G
  5. Tournament

Best Plastic For Winter

Disc golfer throwing a grippy disc in the snow.

Playing disc golf in cold weather presents some new challenges for those willing to brave the cooler temperatures. First, discs fly differently in colder weather. The plastic is stiffer and you get less glide from your discs. They also tend to be more overstable due to the air density. Grip is also affected by the cold stiff plastic. And cold temperature disc golfers always run the risk of cracking their discs due to hitting a solid object like a tree or light post. With those challenges in mind, we can explore which discs are best for winter play

  1. GStar – Not only does the GStar excel in winter golf, it has a sheen and textured look that is beautiful. GStar plastic remains soft even in cold weather, giving you a consistent feel year ‘round.
  2. Neutron Soft
  3. Base Plastics
  4. G-Blend
  5. FLX

Honorable mention: Elevation Discs – Elevation’s extra-soft materials are just as floppy in winter as in summer. Try one of their molds and see what the hype is about.

Best Plastics For Beginners

Group of disc golfers waiting around before a league round.

When we are starting out in disc golf, most of us experiment with molds and plastics until we find the discs that work the best for us. A great plastic to start with is a base plastic. Base plastics have several qualities that make them good for beginners. They have good grip and are softer than some premium discs. They also break in faster than premium discs, giving you a good flight in a shorter amount of time. Plus, they are the least expensive plastic, so if you are experimenting with molds, it won’t cost as much to try new ones.

  1. DX – This plastic feels good and breaks in quickly. Being cheaper than premium is a nice bonus.
  2. Pro D
  3. D-line
  4. X Line
  5. I-Blend

Best Plastic For Night Disc Golf

Glow in the dark disc plastic by MVP brightly glowing in the dark.

Although glow-in-the-dark plastics are common and most brands offer some glow options, not all glow plastics are created equal. Some brands get it right and their plastic glows brightly and holds it for a long time. Others have a glow so weak that it is difficult to tell if it is actually glow plastic. Night rounds are a blast and one of the things that makes it great is watching your glowing disc in flight. Having a plastics that glows bright makes it fun to watch, and makes it easier to find your disc. Here are the best plastics for night disc golf:

  1. Eclipse 2.0 – MVP has some of the best glow plastic on the planet. They are consistently bright and long lasting. Get a few MVP, Axiom, or Streamline molds for your glow rounds.
  2. Lone Star Glow
  3. K1 Glow
  4. TSA Glow
  5. RPM Glow

Most Durable Disc Golf Plastics

Durable Champion Plastic

Durable plastics are great for disc golf because there are usually lots of obstacles on a course and durable plastics can take a hit without losing its flight. Softer, less durable plastics get dinged up easier, which can alter the flight and stability of a disc. Sometimes dings and dents can alter the flight so much that it may need to be replaced.

Discs made of durable plastic take longer to get ‘seasoned’ and achieve the desired flight. But once they do, you can usually throw the disc for a long time and not lose that flight. Although the most durable discs are not indestructible, they can definitely take more abuse than softer discs. Here are some of the most durable plastics.

  1. Champion – This translucent plastic is an extra-durable workhorse. Get your favorite mold in Champion and that disc will last for a long time.
  2. Z
  3. Opto/Lucid/VIP
  4. C-Blend
  5. C-Line

Shipping cut-off dates for 2023

Although it is nice when we can get our holiday shopping finished well in advance, the reality is that there are a lot of us who wait until the last minute to shop for gifts. Thankfully, the USPS recently released their ‘last minute’ delivery schedule, and UPS offers a shipping calculator to find cut-off dates.

The following dates are the last days that items can be shipped and arrive in time for Christmas day. However, we do recommend ordering sooner to avoid unforeseen delays.

The Post Office announced the following dates as the last days to order and still arrive before Christmas. Because they anticipate another heavy year for package delivery, orders must be placed at least full week in advance to ensure delivery by the 25th. Here are the respective delivery services and cut-off dates:

Ground Mail – December 16th

Priority Mail – December 18th

United Parcel Service isn’t issuing dates, but instead is offering a calculator to figure out shipping times based on date and location of the sender, and location of the receiver.  Items are all shipped UPS Ground.

If you don’t get your order placed before these dates, don’t worry! You can always order an Infinite discs E-Gift card. Once your order for the gift card is placed, the email used to place the order will recieve the gift card code within the hour.
